Thursday, June 22 at 9:20 am at his late residence. Born Sept. 5, 1904,
the son of the late Harry O, and Willetta Halley Adams, he is survived
by his widow, the former Charlotte Thompson. One sister, Mrs. William (May)
Walter of New Enterprise, also survives. Mr. Adams was formerly a school
teacher in the Altoona School District and an elder in the Port Royal Presbyterian
Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, June 28 in the
Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Douglas Heslip officiating. Interment was

at 3:50 a.m. Thursday September 20, 1990, at Meda Nipple Convalescent Home,
Thompsontown RD1. Born September 15, 1906, in Fayette Township, Juniata
County, he was a son of the late John and Louisa [Hoffman] Amey. His wife,
Mary [Varner] Amey, whom he married November 22, 1927 survives. Also surviving
are: children, Richard L. Amey, McAlisterville RD1 and Mrs. Robert [Vera]
Sierer, McAlisterville RD1; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, seven sisters, and one granddaughter.
He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, McAlisterville RD1.
He was employed as a farmer, lumberman, and had worked for PennDOT.
Services were held on Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church,
with the Rev. C.
Richard Beach officiating. Interment was in the St. John's Cemetery.

ARNOLD, CLARENCE F. --- Clarence F. "Bud" Arnold, 64, of Mifflintown
RR1 [Arch Rock], died Monday, October 24, 1994 in the emergency room of
Lewistown Hospital. He was born November 19, 1929 in Fermanagh Township,
Juniata County, to the late Lawrence and Eva [Whitesel] Arnold. He is survived
by his wife, Anna C. [Shaeffer] Arnold, whom he married October 20, 1956.
Also surviving are two brothers, Ray Arnold and Stephen Arnold, and one
sister, Mrs. Clyde [Lonna] Fultz, all of Mifflintown RR1, and several nieces
and nephews. He retired in 1992 from Triangle Pacific Cabinet Corp., Thompsontown,
as a carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean
Conflict. He was a member of Arch Rock United Methodist Church, Mifflintown
RR1, American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown, and the Carpenters &
Joiners Local No. 287, Harrisburg. Funeral services were held Thursday
at Brown Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with Rev.
Jonathan C. Terry III officiating. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens,
Mifflintown RR4,
where full military burial honors were provided by the Juniata County
Veterans Council.

BRANDT, IRA D. -------- Ira D. Brandt, 93, formerly of McAlisterville
RR1, died Sunday, December 26, 1993, at 2:50 p.m., at Brookline Manor Convalescent
Home, Mifflintown RR1. He was born September 21, 1900 in Bannerville,
Snyder County, the son of the late Jay and Ida M. Brandt. He graduated
from Elizabethtown Academy [College]. He was an ordained Brethren minister
and was pastor of Swatara Hill Brethren Church, near Elizabethtown. He
married Martha Overholtzer in 1921 and she died in 1971. The family moved
to McAlisterville in 1940 and he worked at Hawstone Brick Plant, then at
Montgomery Ward's retail store in Lewistown, retiring as department manager
in the mid-1960s. He and his wife then were houseparents of a male
dormitory at Elizabethtown
college for eight years. He married the late Hannah Detra, who
preceded him in death in 1989 He returned to McAlisterville and tended
his greenhouse until he took residence in the
convalescent home in October 1992. He was a member of Bunkertown
Church of the Brethren, where he had also been substitute minister, as
well as Free Spring Church of the Brethren of Mifflintown RR1. He is survived
by one son, Charles I. Brandt of Selinsgrove; one brother, Jacob Brandt
of Elizabethtown; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service was set for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, at
the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, 16 Westfall St., McAlisterville, with
Rev. Elwood O. Johnson officiating. Interment will be at the convenience
of the family in the Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown. Memorial donations

died at 2:05 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 1994
at his residence. He was born February 19, 1918 in Tully, Onondago County,
New York, to the
late William and Ruth [Morgan] Evans. He is survived by his wife, Miriam
N. [Whitesel] Evans,
whom he married May 3, 1944. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Wayne
[Connie L.]
Marquart, Lewisberry; one brother, John Evans, Tully, NY; and two sisters,
Sarah Kenyon,
Preble, NY, and Florence Jewett, Indiana. He was preceded in death by one
daughter, Earlene
K. Clouser; one brother, Edward Evans; and two sisters, Evelyn Miller and
Ruth Moore. In
earlier life he was employed by the former Haws Refractories, Hawstone,
and retired in 1981
as a bartender for Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863, Mifflintown. He
was a Methodist by
faith and a life member of Crawford-Brubaker VFW Post No. 5863 and American
Legion Post No.
298, both of Mifflintown. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a
U.S. Army WWII

GARNER, MELVIN HOOD --- Dr. Melvin Hood Garner, 71, died unexpectedly
Saturday, November 20, 1993 at his home in
Richmond, VA. He was the husband of Mabel Short Garner, who died in 1985.
Melvin will be
remembered by some of the Presbyterian Church members for the solos he
sang when he and Mabel
visited the Short home in Port Royal. Born in Columbia, PA, September 19,
1922, he was the
son of the late William C. and Florence Hood Garner. Dr. Garner retired
in 1987 from the
Virginia Department of Education, where he had served as administrative
director of
Vocational and Adult Education since 1976. He had previously held positions
in the education
departments of Pennsylvania and Maryland. He was a graduate and former
principal of Milton
Hershey School. He earned his bachelor's degree at the former Millersville
State Teachers'
College, a master's degree at University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate
in education from
Temple University. A trombonist, he played with the Tommy Dorsey and Johnny
Long orchestras
before entering the field of education. During World War II, he served
with the U.S. Corps of
Engineers in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include a son, Roger L., of
Lee, MA; two
daughters, Rachel E. and Claire Garner Cortois, both of Richmond; three
grandchildren; a
sister, Blanche Resh of Lancaster; and a brother, Dewey Fritz of Columbia.

her residence. She was born in Lack Township, Juniata County, February
19, 1920, the daughter
of the late Robert Edward and Pearl Ann [Seifred] Barner. She married Frank
R. Gearhart Sr.
January 30, 1937. He predeceased her April 19, 1986. She is survived by
three children, Frank
R. Gearhart Jr. of Harrisburg, Hilda M. Strawser of Richfield RR1 and Sheila
J. Snook of
McClure RR1; two brothers, Marlin L. Varner of McClure and Alfred E. Varner

who enjoyed
entertaining at her home with country western music. She loved crocheting,
cooking and
traveling, She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Cocolamus,
the Ladies'
Auxiliary of VFW Post 148, Lower Paxton and McAlisterville Senior Citizens
Center. The
funeral service was held Monday at St. John's United Methodist Church,
Cocolamus, with Rev.
C. Richard Beach officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Saturday, June 24 in the Lewistown Hospital.
Born May 31, 1875 in Fayette Township, he was the son of the late Jerome
and Alberta
Sponhauer Gingrich. He is survived by his widow the former Anna Gilbert,
and two children,
Annabelle Ryan of Mifflintown and Mrs. Frank (Mildred) Hostler of Mifflintown,
R.D. 2. One
sister, Mrs. Mary Garver, 814 W. Fourth St., Lewistown, and four grandchildren
also survive.
Mr. Gingrich was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church McAlisterville.
Funeral services
were held Tuesday morning, June 27, with Rev. Alfred Strang officiating.
Interment was made
in the Hillside Cemetery.

Village, formerly of Stewartstown and
Bunkertown, died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lutheran village. Born June
19, 1899, in
Juniata County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Alice [Trostle] Gingrich.
His first wife,
Mabel T. [Secrest] Gingrich, died in 1967. His second wife, Maude [Bryson]
Gingrich, preceded
him in death. Surviving are: children, Eleanor M. Gingrich, Mount Vernon,
IL, Kenneth M.
Gingrich, Selinsgrove, Donald J. Gingrich, Stewartstown; one brother, Raymond
Gingrich,
Winona Lake, IN; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two
sons, Glenn
Gingrich and Samuel L. Gingrich. He was a teacher in Juniata County for
over 40 years and
also a farmer. He was a member of Stewartstown United Methodist Church,
charter member and
organizing member of Bunkertown Male Chorus, member of the National Retired
Teachers
Association, and taught Sunday school for many years. Services were held
Tuesday at
Stewartstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cynthia A. Raski officiating.
Interment
was in the Codorus Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Loganville. Memorial

driver, retiring on
disability in April of this year. He was Protestant by faith. His memberships

Rescue Hose Co., Sunbury. He is survived by three sons, Richard D. Hood

M. Hood., Selinsgrove RR3, and Robert Casner, Sunbury; and three daughters,
Julia I. Russum,
Hemdon, Betty Casner, Sunbury, Hannah M. Hood, at home. Also surviving

died Thursday, July 14 at 6:50 a.m. at Locust
Grove Retirement Village following an extended illness. Born in Lewistown
on July 9, 1895,
she was the daughter of the late Edward B. and Nora (Weader) Kline. A husband,
Donald R.
Kauffman, preceded her in death in 1946. She is also survived by a foster
daughter, Mrs.
Robert (Darlene) Tittle of R.D. 2, Port Royal. During her early life she
was employed as a
secretary and bookkeeper. She was also a member of Trinity United Church
of Christ, Oak
Street, Lewistown, and Class #14 Hope Bearers. Services were held Saturday,
June 16, at
Heller's Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Weikel officiated. Interment was Mt.
Rock Cemetery.

at his late residence. Born Dec. 6, 1897, at Willow Grove, Juniata County,
the son of the
late Frank and Mary Walls Kennedy, he has only one surviving relative,
an aunt, Mrs. John
Hopple of Honey Grove. Funeral services were held on Thursday morning at
the Francis Basch &
Son Funeral Home, Hyattsville, Md. Interment was made in the Mount Oak
Cemetery,
Mitchellville, Md.

KENNEDY, JAY A. ------- Jay A. Kennedy, 66, of McAlisterville RR1, died
at 8:20 a.m., Wednesday, December 1, 1993 at
Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was born in McAlisterville August
10, 1927, the son of
the late Clarence and Clara [Cree] Kennedy. His wife, the former Jessie
A. Strawser, whom he
married July 17, 1944, survives. He attended Fayette High School, McAlisterville.
He served
in the U.S. Army from November 1945 to August 1946, assigned to the 9710th
Technical Service
Unit. He operated a barber shop in Mifflin and Mifflintown from 1956 till
his retirement in
1990. He was a member of Juniata Post 298 of American Legion, Mifflintown.
He was an avid
fisherman. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Helen
Nunemacher of
Halifax, Carol Bryner of Grand Junction, CO, Mary Chepel of Harrisburg
and Allen J. Kennedy
of Lancaster; three brothers, William Kennedy of Pleasant Gap, Clarence
Kennedy of Richfield
and Preston Kennedy of Harrisburg; five sisters, Ruth Schrengost of Baltimore,
MD, Betty
Horning of McAlisterville, Dorothy Zeiders, Winnie Borhman and Jackie Price,
all of
Mifflintown; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral
service was held
Saturday at the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville, with Rev.
James L. Brady
officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

KERLIN, DANIEL LEVI --- Daniel L. Kerlin, 53, of Port Trevorton RR1,
died at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 1994
at Sunbury Community Hospital, Sunbury, where he had been a patient since
October 9, 1994.
Born at Snyder County, October 25, 1941, he was the son of the late Clarence
and Mary
Swineford Kerlin. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Geraldine
Fay Dreese,
August 17, 1990. He graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1959. He
then entered the U.S.
Army and served during the Viet Nam Era. He was employed by Empire Kosher
Poultry, Inc. of
Mifflintown as a laborer for 21 years, until ill health forced his retirement
in May 1994.
He was a member of Paradise United Methodist Church, Port Trevorton RR1,
and was a life
member of American Legion Post No. 364, Liverpool. He is survived by one
son, Keith L.
Kerlin, Port Trevorton; three sisters, Martha Sprenkle, Katherine "Kass"
Herrold and Ruth
Houser, all of Port Trevorton RR1; and one granddaughter. Mr. Kerlin is
survived also by a
companion, Alice A. Lyter, with whom he made his home. The funeral service
was conducted
Sunday from Paradise United Methodist Church, with Rev. G. Phillip May
officiating. Burial
followed in the adjoining church cemetery, where military honors were provided
by American
Legion Post No. 364, Liverpool. The George P. Garman Funeral Home, Inc.,
Mt. Pleasant Mills,

June 16 at her home. She was born December 15, 1919 in Mifflin, a daughter
of
Margaret Evelyn [Burd] and the late William E. Duncan. She was preceded
in death by
her first husband, William W. Walton Sr., who died in 1943. She later married
Clyde
Eugene Kochenderfer who died in 1976. Survivors include two sons, William
Walter
Walton Jr. of New Paltz, N.Y., Larry Eugene Kochenderfer, Newport; three
daughters:
Mrs. Jerrie [Doris Jean] Klingman, R.D.2, Duncannon, Mrs. Steven [Donis
Marie] Rudy
and Mrs. Keith [Teresa Ann] Snyder, both of Newport; mother and stepfather,
Mr. and
Mrs. Ray F. Walton, of Mexico. The following brothers and sisters also

KOONS, WILLIAM E. ----- William E. Koons, 20, of Port Royal, drowned
on Wednesday, June 21, in a canoeing accident.
His body was recovered from Tuscarora Creek on Monday, June 26, approximately
two miles west
of Port Royal in Milford Township. He was born May 19, 1952, the son of
Reba Groninger Koons
and the late William L. Koons. In addition to his mother he is survived
by two sisters, Mrs.
Ernest (Jane Ann) Foltz of Enhaut, and Mrs. William (Mary Martha) Manbeck
of Mifflintown. His
maternal grandmother, Martha Groninger of Mifflintown R.D. 2 also survives.
He was a member
of the Port Royal United Presbyterian Church, a 1971 graduate of Juniata
High School and was
currently a student at Stevens Trade School in Lancaster. Funeral services
were held on
Thursday, June 29 in the Stimmel Funeral Home at Port Royal, with Rev.
Douglas Heslip
officiating. Interment was made in the New Church Hill Cemetery.

a.m. Monday, December 27, 1993 at Lewistown
Hospital. She was born August 18, 1909 in Walker Township, Juniata County,
the daughter of
the late Samuel T. and Annie M. Zellers Landis. She was formerly employed
as a seamstress in
various sewing factories and as a nurse's aide at the Masonic Homes in
Elizabethtown. She is
survived by two brothers, Percy Landis, Homer, MI, and Kenneth S. Landis,
Newport; one
sister, Mildred Achenbach, Elizabethtown; and a number of nieces of nephews.
The funeral
service has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30 at the
Guss Funeral Home, 20
South Third Street, Mifflintown, with Rev. Leroy Achenbach officiating.
Interment will be in
Adams Cemetery, Mifflintown RR. Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 9:00
p.m. Wednesday at
the funeral home.

the Lewistown Hospital. Born Oct. 20, 1921, the
son of the late Russell S. Leidy and Katherine Irvin Leidy, he Is survived
by his widow, the
former Esther Fogleman; and one son, John C. Jr. and one daughter, Jennie
Lou, at home. Mr.
Leidy was a block operator for the Penn central Railroad, a real estate
broker, an Elder in
the Port Royal Presbyterian Church, foreman for the Port Royal Ambulance
Club, and a Red
Cross first aid instructor. He was also a member of the Union Lodge F&AM
No. 324 of
Mifflintown, Juniata Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon No. 88, the Harrisburg
Consistory,
associate member of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, and the Brotherhood
of Railway,
Airlines, and Steamship Clerks. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon,
June 25 in the
Stimmel Funeral Home, Port Royal with Rev. Douglas Heslip and Rev. Reide
Bingaman
officiating. Interment was made in New Church Hill Cemetery.

County, she was a
daughter of the late Samuel and Mary [Reisinger] Paden. She was preceded
in death on
September 26, 1985 by her husband, Oscar J. Leister, to whom she was married
on October 14,
1926. Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. John [Betty] Ewalt, Mrs.
Harold [Ethel] Rice,
and Mrs. Paul [Patricia] Swartz, all of Port Royal RD2; 19 grandchildren;

at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 1993 at
Lewistown Hospital. Born October 25, 1923 in Mifflintown, he was a son
of the late John O.
Sr. and Alma [Sprankle] Mayes. His wife Betty [Shugerts] Mayes, survives.

He was
preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a grandson. He had a hearing
aid business in
Burnham for 20 years. He was also a justice of the peace in Burnham from
1950-60, then deputy
sheriff in Mifflin County, retiring on disability. He was a veteran of
the U.S. Army, serving
in World War II and was a member of the Burnham Presbyterian Church. He
was a member of
Toastmasters and graduated in 1974 from the Dale Carnegie course, later
teaching the course.
Services were held Friday at Barr Funeral Home, Lewistown, with Rev. Wayne
Lutz officiating.
Interment was in St. Mark's Cemetery, Lewistown. Memorial contributions
may be made to the
Burnham Presbyterian Church, Fourth Avenue, Burnham, PA 17009.

am. Wednesday, December 1, 1993 at her home.
Born January 30,1902 in Newton Hamilton, she was a daughter of the late
John W. and Josephine
[Kauffman] Yohn. Her husband, J. Rolland McBurney, died March 31, 1967.
Surviving are:
children, Donald J. McBurney, Norfolk, VA, Mrs. Charles [Roberta] Duncan,
Mifflintown RR2,
and Barbara Powell, Mexico; four grandchildren. She was the last of her
immediate family,
having been preceded in death by six sisters and three brothers. She was
a member of Mexico
United Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 260, Mifflintown.

at the home Wednesday, December 1, 1993 at 8:38 a.m. He was born June 12,
1904 at Blairs
Mills, the son of the late Nevin and Kathryn Rutter McClure. He was preceded
in death by two
wives: Mary Simonton McClure in 1943 and Mary Speer Sieber McClure in 1973.
He is survived by
three sons: W. Frank McClure of Arizona, Alfred McClure of Mifflintown
and George McClure of
Texas; two stepsons: Rev. Graeme Sieber of Tennessee and Dr. James Sieber
of Shippensburg; 13
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a farmer by
occupation. He was a member of Upper Tuscaeora Presbyterian Church, Blairs
Mills, where he
served as an elder, and was a charter member of the Blairs Mills Lions
Club. The funeral
service was held Saturday at Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church with Rev.
Clyde Brown

died Thursday evening in the Lewistown Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1904 in Tuscarora Township, the son of the late C. A. and
Nora Arnold Nealman.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Merle (Sarah) Dupert of Mifflin Star
Route; five
brothers: Wilson and Brady of Mifflin Star Route, Ben of McCoysville, Raymond
of Honey Grove,
and Herbert of Oakland Mills; four sisters: Mrs. Sarah Zimmerman, Mrs.
Bessie Bossinger, and
Mrs. Verna Myers, all of Licking Creek and Mrs. Erma Hostler of Port Royal.
Three
grandchildren also survive. Mr. Nealman was a retired laborer, a member
of the National
Rifleman Association, and a veteran of World War I. Funeral services were
held Monday morning
in Henry's Funeral Home, Honey Grove, with Rev. Paul W. DeLauter officiating.

made in the McCoysville, Cemetery.

RR3, died, Thursday, October 27, 1994, in
Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield. Born June 18, 1910, in Port
Royal, she was a
daughter of the late Luther and Lillian [Rowe] Prye. Her husband, Charles
E. Nearhood, died
March 4, 1992. Surviving are: daughter, Miriam L. Emlet, Loysville RR2;
brothers, Harold
Prye, Huntingdon, Donald Prye, Mexico, and Leigh Prye, McVeytown; sisters,
Flo Watts,
McAlisterville, Jean Singer, Mifflintown; two grandchildren. She was a
former co-owner of
Millerstown Gulf Service and formerly worked in dress factories and restaurants.
She was a
member of Millerstown United Methodist Church and the Millerstown Senior
Citizens Center.
Services were held Monday in the Millerstown United Methodist Church. Interment
was in
Locust Run Cemetery, Thompsontown RR1. Memorial contributions may be made

he was a Sunday school teacher and former trustee and chairman of the administrative
board;
member of the Liverpool Lions Club, where he served as past president and
secretary; member
of Gideons International; served on the board of directors of the Senior
Citizens of
Millerstown; and was a sponsor of World Vision. Services were held Friday
at Reward United
Methodist Church, Millerstown RD3, with the Rev. Ira Lingenfelter officiating.
Interment was
in Reward United Methodist Cemetery. The George P. Garman Funeral Home,

REGESTER, F. DAVID ---- F. David "Punch" Regester, 95, a, former resident
of Richfield, died Tuesday, November 30,
1993 at Brookline Manor Nursing Home, Mifflintown RR1, where he had been
a patient since
1987. He was born in Thompsontown October 11, 1898, the son of the late
Robert and Annie
[McNaight] Regester. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ruth
Snyder, in 1984.
He was the founder of Regester Chevrolet in Thompsontown and ran the business
till his
retirement in 1962, after which time ownership was assumed by his son,
John. He was a member
of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Thompsontown, and the Richfield Fire Co. He
was an avid hunter
and hunted big game throughout the western United States and Canada. He
made numerous hunting
trips to Alaska. He is survived by one son, John S. Regester of Richfield,
four
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mae Regester of
Thompsontown. He was
preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Daniel and Robert, and two
sisters, Carrie
Taylor and Esther Regester. The funeral service was held Saturday at the
George P. Garman
Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with Rev. Almon D. Baird officiating.
Burial was made in
the Richfield Union Cemetery. Friends may make donations to United Methodist

died at 6:01 am. Sunday, December 5, 1993 at
Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born October 25, 1912 in Delaware Township,
Juniata
County, he was a son of the late J. Park and Annie J. [Gross) Schlegel.
His wife, Blanche E.
[Kipp] Schlegel, whom he married in 1934, survives. Also surviving are:
children, Sandra
Schlegel, at home, Cynthia Blevins, Gettysburg; two grandsons. He had attended
Susquehanna
University. He had farmed in the Beaver Springs area for many years, refiring
in the
mid-1980s, having sold Pioneer Seed Corn. He was a former bank director
of the First National
Bank of Mifflintown, retiring in 1992 after 40 years of service. He served
as president of
the Beaver Springs Water Authority, served as president of the local Dairymen's
League, was a
member of the West Snyder School Board during the 1950s and 1960s, was
a former member of the
Beaver Fair Board and was a member of Christ United Church of Christ Church,
Beaver Springs,
where he had attended church, Sunday school and served many years on the
church council.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Christ UCC church,
with Rev. David
Meckley officiating. Interment will be in Beaver Springs Cemetery. Arrangements
were handled
by the Jerre I. Aurand Funeral Home, Beavertown. Memorial contributions

C. Potter and
Ralph B. Potter of Mifflintown; two sisters, Mabel Potter of Mifflintown
R.D.3 and Mrs.
Kenneth (Arlene) Gilson of Vero Beach, Florida; a number of nieces and
nephews. Mrs.
Shellenberger was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Richfield
and was a member
of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 260. The funeral was held at
11 a.m. Wednesday
at the Guss Funeral Home with the Rev. James R. Bramer officiating. Interment
was made in
the Presbyterian Cemetery.

Companies. He was a
former employee of Harrisburg Steel Company, the former Pennsylvania Railroad
and the VanDyke
Brick Plant. He was a member of Millerstown United Methodist Church and
a life member of
Millerstown Loyal Order of Moose No. 925. Surviving are his wife, Mildred
S. Wagner Showers;
two sons, J. Richard and Ronald S., both of Millerstown; two brothers,
Haven S., Newport RR1
and Leroy S., Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1; three sisters, Alvena Miller, Lebanon,

died Sunday evening, September 9, at her home.
She was born in Selinsgrove, September 18, 1924, a daughter of the late
Randall and Pauline
[Predix] Hackenburg. She married Robert E. Spriggle in 1946. She and her
husband formerly
operated a food market in Richfield. She later worked at County Line Restaurant,
Richfield.
Mrs. Spriggle was a member of Richfield United Methodist Church, Queen
Esther Class of the
Sunday school and Order of the Eastern Star No. 260, Mifflintown. In addition
to her husband,
she is survived by three children: Linda L. Lesher of Sunbury, Randall
W. of Millerstown and
Tedd L. of Beaver Springs; seven grandchildren; and three brothers and
sisters: Randall R.
Hackenburg Jr. and William D. Hackenburg, both of Selinsgrove RD3, and
Mildred Ulrich of
Selinsgrove. One sister preceded her in death. The funeral was conducted
September 12 at
Richfield United Methodist Church by Rev. Almon Baird. Burial was in Richfield

[Marshman] Graham. She married Samuel R. Sunderland May 30, 1916, in Mapleton
Depot. He died
January 1, 1979. Mrs. Sunderland was the oldest member of Asbury United
Methodist Church. She
was also a member of the ladies' auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railway
Trainmen. Surviving
are three sons, Don of Juniata, James of Homers Gap and Jack of Altoona;

resident since March. Born June 5, 1903 in Port Royal R.D.1, she was the
daughter of the late
Samuel and Blanche (McCahren) Kepner. She was preceded in death by her
husband Monroe L.
Swartz who died in 1969. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Evelyn) Schell
of Star Route,
McAlisterville, one son, Warren Swartz of Richfield R.D.1, six grandchildren,
nine great
grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. A son, Paul Swartz preceded
her in death in
1977. Mrs. Swartz farmed in the Richfield R.D.1 area during her lifetime.
She was a member of
the Faith Lutheran Church, Millerstown R.D.2, was a 50-year member and
past master of the
Greenwood Grange in Millerstown R.D.2 and was a member of the Richfield
Senior Citizens.
Services will be held at 10:30a.m. Wednesday at the George P. Garman Funeral
Home, Mt.
Pleasant Mills with the Rev. Charles Brophy officiating. Interment will
be in the Union

grandsons. Mr. Troup was a retired maintenance foreman with the Juniata

Department and for the past several years, had been employed as a meat
cutter for Troup
Brothers Store in Millerstown R.D.2. He was a member and trustee of the
Mt. Zion United
Methodist Church, Richfield R.D.1, was treasurer of Mt. Zion Cemetery Association
and a
member of the Pennsylvania's Farmers Association. Services were held at
2 p.m. Tuesday at the
Mt. Zion Church with Rev. Carl D. Geary and Rev. Stephen E. Gallaher officiating.
Interment

WALTON, RAY FRANKLIN -- Ray Franklin Walton, 86, of Mexico died at 3:45
p.m. Saturday February 15 at Locust Grove
Retirement Village, Mifflin Star Route. Born March 5, 1899 in McCoysville,
Juniata County, he
was a son of the late George Loy and Margaret Elizabeth [Sheriff] Walton.
His wife, Margaret
Evelyn [Burd] Walton survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived
by a son and two
daughters: John E. Walton, Port Royal R.D. 2; Mrs. Earl [Mary] Palm
Honey Grove; and Mrs.
Wayne [Florence] Bryner; a stepson and two stepdaughters: Charles L. Duncan,
Mexico; Mrs Ray
[Margaret] Singer, McAlisterville R.D.1; and Mrs. Roy [Helen] Heckman,
Lewistown. Also two
brothers: Howard Walton, Medina, Ohio, and James Samuel Walton, Millerstown;
and two half
brothers: Joseph Walton and Guy Walton, both of Mifflintown R.D.2; 16 grandchildren
and 10
great-grandchildren. A son, William W. Walton; two stepdaughters, Ruth
Irene Duncan and
Dorothy Kochenderfer; and two half brothers: Harry D. Walton and George
Albert Walton,
preceded him in death. He was a retired upholster. He was a member of Mexico
United
Presbyterian Church and a former trustee of the church. Services were held
Tuesday morning at
the, Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Robert G. Campbell officiating.
Interment
was made in the Westminister Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

two brothers Donald E. of Millerstown and Harold M. of Liverpool; three
sisters, Esther L.
Reichenbach of Mifflin, Joyce K. Graybill of Richfield, and Shirley M.
Campbell of Newport;
and several nieces and nephews. Services were held in Charles Snyder Funeral
Home. Burial was
in Mellinger's Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to

WHISTLER, GEORGE R. --- George R. Whistler, 65, of Homard Estate, Carlisle
RR6, died October 18, 1993 at his home.
Born July 15, 1928 in Juniata County, he was a son of the late Charles
and Mary Walton
Whistler. He retired from Knouse Foods, Peach Glen. He was a veteran of
the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife, Janet L. Orner Whistler; five stepsons, Cleason
Kauffman, Kenneth
Kauffman, Randy Kauffman and Jason Kauffman, all of Gettysburg, and Travis
Kauffman of
Carlisle; two brothers, Stanley Whistler of Port Royal and Carl Whistler
of Newville; two
sisters, Bessie Beverly of Mifflintown and Verna Fensterbush of Carlisle;
and several nieces
and nephews. Services were held at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle,
with Rev. Randall L.
Zook officiating. Burial was in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, West
Pennsboro Township.

Mifflintown, died at 2:10 p.m. Thursday, June
14 at the Lewistown Hospital. Born July 9, 1906 in Fayette Township, she
was the daughter of
the late Hale S. and Emma (Singer) Alexander. She is survived by her husband
Robert B.
Zimmerman. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jean Farleman of Mexico;
one brother Merrill
Alexander of Thompsontown; three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Scott of Neelyton,
Mrs. June Regi of
Thompsontown, Mrs. Elizabeth Falk of Millersville; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Zimmerman was
employed as a school teacher in Juniata County until her retirement. She
was a member of the
Aldersgate United Methodist Church. A funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday
in the Brown Funeral
Home with the Rev. James C. Bonsell officiating. Interment was in Union
Memorial Gardens.
