AMEY, STERIL EWING ---- Steril E. Amey, 92, of HC 63, Richfield, died
at 1:15 a.m., June 20, 1995 at The Zendt Home,
Richfield, where he had resided since 1991. Born at Evendale, Monroe Township,
February 28,
1903, he was the son of the late Banks W. and Elizabeth Ewing Amey. October
6, 1928, he
married the former M. Kathryn Leitzel, who survives. Mr. Amey attended
the Evendale grammar
schools. He was employed by PennDOT, Juniata County, as a maintenance worker,
retiring after
27 years of service, in 1963. He also was a selfemployed painter. Mr. Amey
was a member of
Richfield Mennonite Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class
and had served as
church treasurer. Additionally, he was a member of the Richfield Fire Co.
and Ambulance
League. In addition to his wife of nearly 67 years, he is survived by one
daughter, Twila M.
Baker, Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren; and one sister, Orpha Sieber,
Lewistown. Mr.
Amey was preceded in death by one brother, Lester E. Amey, and two sisters,
Nettie E. Landis
and Mae E. Coombe. The funeral service was conducted Saturday from Richfield
Mennonite
Church, with Rev. Jerry R. O'Connell officiating. Burial followed in Richfield
Union
Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by the George P. Garman
Funeral Home, Inc., Mt.

BARNER, VICTORIA ------ Victoria "Vicky" Barner, 76, died March 14,
1995 at St. Joseph Hospital, Ann Arbor, MI. She
was born January 17, 1919 in Hidden Inlet, AK, to Richard E. Morgan and
Emily Lucy Barton,
who were members of the Nishga'a Native American tribe of Northwest British
Columbia. Vicky
grew up with her aunt, Esther Barton, in Cleveland, OH, because of tuberculosis
problems in
the tribe. She completed nursing training in Cleveland and entered the
Army Nurse Corps,
where she volunteered for service as a flight nurse overseas. As a member
of the 807 Med. Air
Evac. Sqd., she was based in Sicily, Rome and Siena, Italy, flying in C47s
to evacuate
wounded from the front. She received the Air Medal with three oak leaf
clusters. When they
arrived in Siena, her husband-to-be was stationed with an OSS unit at a
villa overlooking the
city. After their separate returns to the States at the end of WWII, they
were married
September 8, 1945 in Cleveland. After 1-1/2 years in Cleveland, they moved
to Mifflintown. In
1951 her husband's reserve unit was called to active duty and they were
stationed for a short
time in California and then sent overseas to Munich and Bad-Tolz, Germany.
Upon their return
they lived in York, PA, from 1953-1961, and have since lived in Ann Arbor.
She earned a BA
degree in art at the University of Michigan and then a master's degree
in education. She
became active in Native American affairs, heritage and especially art.
She is survived by her
husband, Leroy E. Barner; a daughter, Joyce Tinkharn of Ann Arbor; a son,
Glenn of Marquette,
MI; and five grandchildren. Her daughter, Susan Morseau, preceded her in
death in 1991. Her
surviving siblings are Katy Clayton of Kincolith, BC, Clarence Barton of
Prince Rupert, BC,
Reuben Morgan of Kincolith and George Morgan of Prince Rupert. Her body
has been cremated. A
memorial service was held March 19 at the Muehlig Chapel with Maria Meyers,
a Native American
spiritual leader, assisted by Ed Skinner. Burial will take place in Prince
Rupert in late
summer after strewing some of her ashes in the Nass River following the
appropriate rites by
her Nishga'a clan members. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer
Society. She
appreciated all the cards and flowers from her many friends.

Selinsgrove. He was born March 8, 1908 at Millerstown RR2 to the late Charles

Dimm Beaver. He was married November 26, 1936 in Pfoutz Valley, Millerstown
RR2, to the
former Helen M. Stephens, who survives. He was a retired farmer. He was
a member of Pfoutz
United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR2, was a charter member of Millerstown
Lions Club, and
was a member of Millerstown Fire Company, Millerstown Ambulance League
and Pennsylvania
Farmers Association. He was a former Perry County Republican Committeeman.
In addition to his
wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mary B. Warner, Schenectady, NY,
and Audrey B.
Deckard, Selinsgrove RR3; a sister, Joyce Swartz, Carlisle, five grandchildren;
and three
great-grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday, at Pfoutz Valley United
Methodist Church,
with Rev. Dennis R. Gable officiating. Burial was in the adjoining Pfoutz
Valley Church

BENNER, MARY ALBERTA -- Mrs. Mary A. Benner, 74, formerly of Newport,
died at 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, 1995,
at Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg, where she had been a patient
for the past two
weeks. Prior to her hospitalization, she was a resident of Kinkora Pythian
Home, Duncannon.
Born in Perry County, July 30, 1920, she was the daughter of the
Late Charles and Rosanna
George Brown. She was married to Arthur E. Benner Sr., who preceded her
in death August 5,
1971. Mrs. Benner attended the Newport and Millerstown public schools.
She was a homemaker
and mother and was Protestant by faith. She is survived by three sons,
Arthur E. Benner Jr.,
of Millerstown RR2, Harry R. Benner of Duncannon RR4 and Larry E. Benner
of Middletown; four
daughters, Evelyn A. Delancey of Newport RR3, Margaret L. Walton of Millerstown,
Joan E.
Miller of Mechanicsburg and Judy P. Dunn of Thompsontown RR1; one brother,
Herman Brown of
Mifflinburg RR; 27 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Also surviving
are many nieces,
nephews, greatnieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Benner was preceded in death
by a son, Norman R.

Discount Company, Mount Joy, and retired in January after 28 years. She
was a member of Mount
Joy Church of God and Women's Christian Service Council, Churches of God
General Conference.
She was a 1948 graduate of McCaskey High School. Mrs. Breneman is survived

retirement, she
continued to do volunteer work for the hotline until ill health forced
her to not continue.
She was a member of Liverpool United Methodist Church, Liverpool Ambulance
League and
American Legion Post 364 Ladies Auxiliary, Liverpool. At the time of her
death, she was
serving as chaplain of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also volunteered
as a
pianist at Nipple Nursing and Convalescent Home, Liverpool. She was active
in Hunter's Valley
Sportsmen's Association. Services will be held at 11:00 am. Wednesday at
George P. Garman
Funeral Home Inc., Liverpool, with Rev. Timothy L. Cooley officiating.
Interment will be in
Liverpool Union Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however, the family
will receive friends
from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

and operated a
farmette in McAlisterville RR1 since 1953. He was a member of St. John's
United Methodist

Gaul. On June 12, 1953, in Barbours, he married Shirley Williams, who survives.
Rev. Gaul
served as a minister in United Methodist churches in Pennsylvania and Iowa.
He moved to Lake
Havasu City, AZ 11 years ago coming from Central City, IA. He was a member
of the Golden K of
Lake Havasu City, Friends of the Library, United Methodist Men and the
Iowa United Methodist
Conference. He was a volunteer for the Mental Health Center and affiliated
with St. Michael's
United Methodist Church, where he was chosen first Man of the Year. Surviving
besides his
wife are two sons, Stephen B. Gaul of Slater, IA, Jonathan D. Gaul of Emmitsburg,
IA; one
daughter, Naomi R. Treanor of Columbia, MD; one brother, Charles R. Gaul
of Lemoyne; one
sister, Vivian Switzer of Port Allegany; and six grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by
two brothers, Richard and Joseph Gaul. Funeral services were held Monday
May 15 in St.
Michael's Methodist Church, with Revs. Tony Yim and Gay Thorson officiating.
Burial was in
Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens.

illness. She was born
October 15, 1923 in Center, Juniata County, the daughter of the late Robert
L. and Grace
Mertz McKee. She was retired as a magazine solicitor for Fred Gutshall's
Lincoln Literary
Club of Harrisburg, with 23 years of service. She was also an employee
of the West-Shore
Times and the Patriot News. She was a Methodist by faith. Surviving are
her only sister,
Donna McKee Jones of Harrisburg, with whom she formerly resided, and who
was a sister who
provided and cared for her throughout many years; a brother, Ray W. McKee
of Southampton, NJ,
who recently celebrated his 80th birthday; a son, Henry; a grandson; and
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo M. [Shorty], in 1966;
Marlin [Monk], in
1985; and Robert O. [Doc], who died in an automobile accident in New Jersey,
along with his
wife Doris, in 1988. Also preceding her in death was a favorite brother-in-law,
Wayne M.
Jones, the late husband of Donna McKee Jones. There will be no services.

died Thursday afternoon April 13, 1995 at
Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1. He was born September
10, 1903 in
Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, a son of the late Harry I. and Sarah
[Milliken] Gray. His
wife, Cecil S. Gray, died March 31, 1986. He was also preceded in death
by a brother, Dr.
James Robert Gray, and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Jo Deihl. Glenn was
a retired farmer, a
past director of the Juniata Mutual Insurance Co. and a past director of
the Juniata County
Agriculture Society. He was a member of McCoysville Presbyterian Church
and Tuscarora Grange
No. 774, East Waterford. Surviving are a son, Harold G. Gray, Honey Grove
RR1; two
grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Services were held Monday from
Henry Funeral
Home, Honey Grove, with his pastor, Rev. Douglas M. Hileman, officiating.
Interment was in

at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 1995, at Brookline
Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1. Born July 25, 1905, in Colifax,
Huntingdon County,
he was a son of the late Adie Curtis and Bessie [Pheasant] Greenland. His
wife, Erma J.
[Roland] Greenland, of Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, whom he married
June 11, 1927,
survives. Also surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Robert [Marie] Watkins,
Mifflintown RR3;
sisters, Mrs. Martha Scott and Mrs. John [Hazel] Scott, both of Star Route
Huntingdon; 10
grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by a daughter, Betty Byers, March 14, 1989. He was owner of Greenland
Motors Dodge and
Plymouth Agency, in Mount Union and Three Springs from 1946-1961. He also
was a Ferguson Farm
equipment dealer in Mount Union for a number of years. He retired as a
Harvest Life insurance
agent. He was a member of Port Royal United Methodist Church, was a former
school board
member of Southern Huntingdon County, was a former Port Royal Borough Councilman,
was a Port
Royal Republican Committeeperson and a member of the Juniata County Republican
Executive
Committee. Services were held Wednesday, May 31, at Rex Funeral Home, Port
Royal, with Rev.
Gerald D. Wagner and Rev. James R. Sunderland Jr. officiating. Interment
was in Cassville

Lewistown, Mifflin County, to the late Clair and Mary [Satzler] Doughten.
Her husband,
Richard E. "Dick" Harry, preceded her in death May 26,1990. She is survived
by one daughter,
Mrs. Robert [Donna] Dickey, Doylestown; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by one brother, John Doughten, and one sister, Irene
Myers. She was a
member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Mifflintown, and the Dorcas
Sunday School Class
of the church, and sang in the church choir for many years. She was co-owner
of the former
Harry's Food Market, Mifflintown. Memorial services will be held at 3:00
p.m. Sunday, June
18, from Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Third and Orange streets,
Mifflintown, with Rev.
Jonathan C. Terry III and Rev. Edwin Rohrbeck officiating. Burial will
be private and held at
the convenience of the family at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown.

died May 2, 1995 at St. Joseph's Hospital,
Lancaster. His death was due to natural causes. He was the husband of Donna
Woodward. He was
born in Schwenksville, Berks County, a son of Wallace Hiltebeitel of Pottstown
and the late
Mabel Stearly Kohn. He was an expediter for the former Hamilton Technology
in Lancaster. He
served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1965. He was a member of Concordia
Lutheran Church,
Chestnut Hill, Paul Revere Leber Post No. 372 American Legion of Columbia,
Manheim
Sportsmen's Association, the NRA and the Lancaster Radio Control Club.
In addition to his
wife and father, he is survived by a sister, Jane Rexrod of Pottstown;
a half-brother, Nelson
Hiltebeitel of Douglassville, PA; two half-sisters, Mildred Kay of Medford,
NJ, and Deborah
Hiltebeitel of Riverside, NJ; and a stepmother, Evelyn Walters Hiltebeitel.

HOUSEWORTH, JOHN W. --- John W. Houseworth, 77, of Middleburg, died
Tuesday, June 6, 1995, at 9:20 am. at his
residence. He was born in Juniata County July 20, 1917, the son of the
late Irvin and Minnie
[Strawser] Houseworth. He married the former Erma Willow July 3, 1950.
He was formerly
employed by Wood-Mode, Kreamer; Polaron Homes, Middleburg; and last, Wood
Designs, Port
Trevorton. He was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, Richfield,
where he formerly
served on the church board and as church treasurer. In addition to his
wife he is survived by
two sons, David S. Houseworth of Middleburg and Rev. Paul A. Houseworth,
Knoxville, TN; one
daughter, Mary E. Mowery, of Liverpool RR1; and four grandchildren. He
was preceded in death
by three brothers, William, Russell and Clayton and three sisters, Blanche
Heintzelman, Grace
Hile and Dora Gearhart. The funeral service was held Friday at Evangelical
Methodist Church,
Richfield with Rev. James D. Plank officiating. Burial was in Evangelical
Methodist Cemetery,

IMES, LISA W. --------- Lisa W. Imes, 38, of HC 67, Mifflin, died Wednesday,
June 21, 1995 at 12:50 p.m. from
injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born June 7, 1957,
the daughter of A.
Jack and Shirley [Rickenbaugh] Weller of McAlisterville. She was married
to Donald G. Imes
April 23, 1988. She graduated from East Juniata High School in 1975, attended
Bloomsburg
University for one year and then obtained an associates degree as a surgical
technician at
Williamsport Area Community College. She was employed as a surgical technician,
since 1978,
at Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg and at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown
for one year.
Her hobby of crafts and tole paintings, was also a business which she operated
from her home.
She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Oakland Mills,
in which she held the
positions of assistant superintendent and Sunday school teacher. She was
also a member of
Sunday School Class Number 8, the education committee, the flower committee,
the Pine Grove
Festival Committee, the administration council and United Methodist Women.
In addition to her
husband and parents, she is survived by: a stepson, Jason Imes of HC 67,
Mifflin; a brother,
James Weller of Thompsontown RR1; two sisters, Chris W. Kratzer of Thompsontown
RR1 and Kim
W. Imes of Port Royal RR1; seven nieces and 13 nephews. The funeral service
was held Sunday,
June 25 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Oakland Mills, with Rev.
James R. Sunderland
Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery,
McAlisterville.

born August 1, 1900 in Mifflintown, Juniata County, to the late Harry and
Gertrude (Ernest]
Groninger. She was the widow of James H. Lauver, who preceded her in death
March 30, 1975.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred Lauver, Lombard, IL; one brother,
J. Don Groninger,
Lewistown; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded
in death by one son,
Donald L. Lauver, May 7,1969, and one sister, Dillie We Cleck. She was
a housewife. Funeral

LAUVER, J. ROY -------- J. Roy Lauver, 79, of Selinsgrove, died Wednesday,
May 10, 1995, at his home. Born May 3,
1916 in McAlisterville, he was a son of the late J. Emery and Grace [Bay]
Lauver. His wife
Pauline [Leister] Lauver, whom he married in 1940, survives. Also surviving
are: children,
Joseph Lauver, Middleburg, David Lauver and Thomas Lauver, both of Selinsgrove;
a brother,
Robert Lauver, McAlisterville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded
in death by a
brother, Wayne Lauver. He graduated from Fayette High School, McAlisterville,
in 1934 and was
the president of his class. He also graduated from Eckels School of Mortuary
Science,
Philadelphia, in 1938. From 1936-1942, he worked as assistant funeral director
to Clair C.
Stuck. From 1942-1952, he worked for the federal government, Air Force
Intelligence School
and later worked as a real estate agent for J.K. Kipp of Harrisburg. He
retired after 20
years of service with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where
he served as a
real estate specialist. He was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove,
was a past
council member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McAlisterville and was also
a past council member
of Trinity Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove, where he taught Sunday school.
Mr. Lauver wrote and
published a book and numerous articles pertaining to the Civil War. He
was active in the
Civil War Round Table of Lewisburg, was a member of the Snyder County Historical
Society, the
Juniata Mennonite Historical Society of Richfield, a former member of the
Elks Lodge of
Danville and a former member of the Lions and IOOF, both of McAlisterville.
Services were
held Friday at Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove, with Rev. William S.
Henderson
officiating. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville. Memorial

at 1:10 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 1995, at Holy
Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. He was born in Harrisburg, January 15, 1908,
the son of the late
John and Emma F. Sutton Layson. He attended Camp Hill schools and graduated
from Camp Hill
High School in 1926, after which he entered Drexel University, Philadelphia,
graduating in
1930. His first wife, the former Gladys N. Royer, died in 1943. His wife,
the former Winifred
"Zong" Knouse, whom he married September 16, 1978, survives. Additionally
he is survived by a
daughter, Arlene G. Allison of Lykens; two stepchildren, Jon Knouse of
Reedsville and Sue Ann
Sheaffer of Beavertown; a brother, Edgar Layson of Middletown; a sister,
Wilma Dittenhafer of
Camp Hill; three grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; seven step-grandchildren;
and eight
step-greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, John K. Layson
Jr., in 1966 and a
brother, Dale Layson. He was employed as an accountant for Dupont Corporation,
Wilmington, DE
from 1941 until his retirement in 1969. The funeral service was Friday,

for 25 years,

and Zembo Luncheon Club. Surviving are his wife, Ruth H. [Dentler] Meminger;

of Conestoga; and
two grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, May 13 in Musselman Funeral
Home, Lemoyne.

MILLER, GEORGE A. ----- George A. Miller, 65, formerly of Richfield,
died at 10:44 a.m. Tuesday, May 2,1995, at his
residence in Phoenix, AZ, following a lengthy illness. He was born in Richfield,
July 10,
1929, the son of Emma L. [Ehrenzeller] Miller of Richfield and the late
George Herbert
Miller. He married the former Ruth A. Smith June 4, 1949. He attended Richfield
Grammar
School and graduated from Fayette High School, McAlisterville, in 1947.
He served in the U.S.
Marine Corps from 1948 to 1950. He was employed on the fabrication line
of Thompson Products,
Harrisburg, for six years and then as a diesel mechanic for the Pennsylvania
Highway
Department before moving to Phoenix in 1958, where he was a policeman on
the Phoenix Police
Department from September 1, 1959 until his retirement, with over 27 years
of service, March
4, 1983. Since 1988, he and his family have spent their summers in
Thompsontown. He was a
member of Albright United Methodist Church, Phoenix Thompsontown Lions
Club, Crawford-
Brubaker Post 298, American Legion, Mifflintown, Fraternal Order of Police,
Phoenix Lodge No.
21 and he was a past Boy Scout Master of Richfield Troop 61. In addition
to his wife and
mother, he is survived by two sons, Kenneth Miller, of Casa Grande, AZ,
and Frederick Miller,
of Phoenix; a brother, Donald Miller, of Thompsontown RR1; and three grandchildren.
He was
predeceased by a brother, Warren, January 14, 1994. The funeral service
was held Monday at
Bunkertown Church of the Brethren, McAlisterville RR1, with Rev. Elwood
O. Johnson
officiating. Interment followed in Goodwill Cemetery, McAlisteville
RR1, where a military
graveside service was conducted by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

eight grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers

A cook at Mifflintown's former Zimmie's Diner, former Beasom's Restaurant,

Restaurant and former Coffee Cup, she retired in 1972. She was a member
of Messiah Lutheran
Church, Mifflintown, Sisterhood - Everready Sunday school class, Mifflintown

Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. He was born November 14, 1933 in Fermanagh
Township, Juniata
County, a son of the late Joseph E. and Margaret V. Depew Peoples. He is
survived by his
wife, Anna Mae Dunn Peoples; one son, Kevin Peoples, at home; one brother,
J. Paul Peoples of
Oakland Mills; and one sister, Mrs. James [Helen] Smith of Harrisburg.
He was preceded in
death by a brother, Marvin L. Peoples. He was a life-long farmer. He was
a 1952 graduate of
Juniata High School, Mifflintown, and was a member of Pine Grove United
Methodist Church,
where he was a former Sunday school teacher of Class No. 9. He was a member
of the Juniata
County Farmers' Association and the Juniata County Holstein Association,
and was a former
leader of the Lost Creek Dairy 4-H Club, serving 40 years. In addition,
he was a former
Juniata County Extension Service Board member and a former Fermanagh Township
supervisor.
Funeral services were held Monday at Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with
Rev. James R.
Sunderland Jr. and Rev. Elaine Fogarty officiating. Interment was in Lost
Creek Presbyterian

Thursday afternoon, May 4, 1995, at 1:52 p.m. at
his residence. He was born in West Perry Township, Snyder County, July
14, 1921, the son of
the late Irvin and Mary [Helwig] Snyder. He married the former Helen M.
Davis September 11,
1943. He was a retired minister and had last served Neimond's Independent
Church, Richfield,
from 1967 to 1978. He had served as visitation minister at Richfield Mennonite
Church since
1987. He was a member of Richfield Mennonite Church and taught in the church
Sunday school.
He was on the board of deacons and was a prayer meeting leader. He was
a member of the Gideon
Society, Richfield Fire Company and the National Rifle Association. In
addition to his wife,
he is Survived by two daughters, Sharon L. Fogle of Lewisburg RR1 and Wendy
A. Sheaffer of
Richfield; a sister, Marian Snyder of Richfield; a brother, Leonard Snyder
of Richfield; and
two grandchildren. The funeral service was held Monday at Richfield Mennonite
Church, with
Rev. Jerry R. O'Connell officiating. Burial was in Richfield Union Cemetery.

Born April 1,
1900 at Liverpool, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Alice [Funk]
Strawser.
January 31, 1926, he married the former Charlotte A. Hoffman, who died
in 1973. He
attended Dry Saw Mill School, Liverpool. He was a carpenter with Union
Local No. 287,
Harrisburg. He was a member of the Carpenters Union No. 287 and was associated
with
Jehovah Witnesses of Elliottsburg. He is survived by three daughters Velma
Kerstetter,
McAlisterville: Maeetta Ferguson, Thompsontown, and Almeda Fisher, Millerstown;
three
sons, Benjamin, Gerald and Chester, all of Liverpool; one brother, George
A. Strawser,
Liverpool; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by two
brothers, Elmer Strawser and Walter Zellers; one sister, Emma Barner; and
three
grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday at the George P. Garman
Funeral Home,
Liverpool, by Dennis Orwin. Burial followed at Barner's Cemetery, Liverpool.

25, 1951, he was the son son of Benjamin and the late Jean [Nagle] Strawser
Sr. September
16, 1986, he married the former Sandra J. Hoover, who survives. He attended
Greenwood High
School, Millerstown. At the time of his death he was employed in the office
of Terranetti's
Bakery, Mechanicsburg. He had been previously employed by Robbins Door
and Sash Co.,
Harrisburg, and Fruehauf, Middletown. In addition to his wife arid father,
he is survived by
two sons, Galen Jr. and Brian C. of Liverpool, one stepdaughter, Shannon
B. Stone, New
Bloomfield; three brothers, Benjamin and Barry, both of Liverpool, and
Kevin Strawser of
Georgia; one sister, Anita Kammler, Liverpool; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service
was conducted Thursday at Hall's [Zion] Lutheran Church, Port Trevorton
RR1, by Rev. Timothy

STRAWSER, HARRY A. ---- Harry A. Strawser, 99, McAlisterVille, died
at 10:40 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 1995, in
Lewistown Hospital. He was born in Trevorton July 30, 1895, the son of
the late William and
Elizabeth "Dressler" Strawser. He was married in 1926 to the former Grace
Varner, now
deceased. He served in the United States Army from September 18, 1917 to
May 31, 1919. He was
assigned to Supply Co., 314th Infantry, 79th Division, which fought in
the Meuse Argonne
Montfaucon battle, Argonne, France, where he was wounded in action. He
was awarded the Silver
Victory Button. He was one of only two survivors of WWI residing in Juniata
County. After the
war he worked at Ford Motor Company, Detroit, MI, then as a boilerman at
Van Dyke Silica Co.
He owned and operated Thompsontown Block Company. After selling the company,
he returned to
Van Dyke, in the brick molding department, until his retirement in 1960.
He was a member of
Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville, Crawford-Brubaker Post
5863, VFW,
Mifflintown, and American Legion, Juniata Post 298, Mifflintown. He is
survived by two sons,
Ira Harris, Huntingdon, and Albert R. Strawser, McAlisterville RR1; two,
sisters, Beulah
Strawser, McAlisterVille, and Myrtle Shelley, Thompsontown RR1; seven grandchildren;
and five
great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, four sisters
and a son, John. The
funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Lost
Creek Presbyterian
Church, McAlisterville, with Rev. Elaine L. Fogarty officiating. Interment
will follow in the
Lost Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, where full military honors will be provided
by the Juniata
County Veterans Council. A viewing was scheduled for 4:00 to 9:00 P.M.

Lester G. Summers,

in death by
two brothers, Howard Hawn and Bruce Hawn. She and her husband owned and
operated the
Bashore's Greenhouse for 18 years. She was a graduate of Petersburg Vocational
High School,
class of 1941. She was a member of Port Royal Lutheran Church and the Ladies
Auxiliary of
Friendship Fire Co., Port Royal. Services were held Sunday at Rex Funeral
Home, Port Royal,

the late David A. and Ethel M. [Shaffer] Sweger. His wife, Betty J. [Leonard]
Sweger,

grandchildren. He
was the retired co-owner of Sweger's Grocery Store, Millerstown and was

Harrisburg. He
was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a

Fermanagh Township, to the late William E. and Mabel [Wright] Switzer.
He is survived by his
wife, Thelma E. [Eaton] Switzer, whom he married August 25, 1951. Also

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a Methodist

as a machinist in the
maintenance department of Standard Steel, Burnham. In earlier life he was
employed by the
former Switzer Chevrolet-Oldsmobile garage, Mifflintown, as a mechanic.

and Brand W. Eaton officiating. Burial was in Westminster Presbyterian

of World War II,

his wife, Violet L.

He
was preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Campbell, Rosella Wilson and
Margaret Trego. In
his earlier years, he was a sawmiller, a foreman for the Department of
Highways, a member of
the Capital Police Force, Harrisburg, and a forest ranger before becoming
warden in Licking
Creek before retiring in 1977. The high point of his career was serving
three terms as the
sheriff of Juniata County, from 1946 until 1958. Funeral services will
be held at 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, April 19, from the Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown,
with Rev.
William N. Esborn officiating. Burial will be in the Westminster Presbyterian
Cemetery,

WILLOW, MILDRED S. ---- Mrs. Mildred S. Willow, 88, formerly of Liverpool,
died at 5:40 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 1995 at
Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield. She was born August 30, 1906
in Juniata County,
the daughter of the late Frank and Minerva Stuck Snyder. She was preceded
in death by her
husband, Floyd E. Willow, in September 1979. Mrs. Willow attended the Juniata
County rural
schools. She worked as a caregiver for the former Good Samaritan Nursing
Home, Liverpool, for
many years, but basically devoted her life to that of a mother and homemaker.
She was a
member of Richfield United Methodist Church and Liverpool Fire Company
and Ambulance League.
Mrs. Willow is survived by two sons, Norman S. Willow, Liverpool RR1, and
Donald Willow,
Liverpool RR2; two daughters, Jerene S. Foltz, Pine Grove Mills, PA, and
Elsie A. Witmer,
Harrisburg; two sisters, Sylvania Feltman, Millerstown RR1, and Hannah
Kline, New Columbia
RR1; nine grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.
Mrs. Willow
was preceded in death by a brother, Merrill Snyder, and four sisters, Julia
Pretz, Mary
Feltman, Lena Arnold and May Snyder, in childhood. The funeral service

ZIEGLER, PRESTON ------ Preston "Pep" Ziegler, 89, of McAlisterville,
died at 6:50 p.m., Sunday, June 4, 1995, at
University Hospital, Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born November 26,
1905 in Rebersberg,
PA, he was the son of the late William H. and Minerva M. Zimmerman Ziegler.
His wife, the
former Margaret K. Knouse, whom he married March 3, 1933, survives. He
attended Miles
Township schools in Rebersberg and two years at Millheirn High School.
He received his
teacher's training at Lock Haven Normal School. He was a teacher of elementary
works in
Fayette Township schools, Juniata County, for 45 years, the last number
of years serving as
principal. In 1927, he organized the first Boy Scout troop, Troop No. 65,
in McAlisterville.
He served 15 years in the Juniata County Conservation Department as an
urban director. He
organized the "Little German Band" in McAlisterville, with the membership
growing to 32. He
was a member of Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, McAlisterville, where he
served many years as
an elder and teacher of the Men's Bible Class. He was a charter member
of Juniata County
Sportsmen's Association, Fayette Township Sportsmen's Association, Lost
Creek Trout Club. He
was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge 716, McAlisterville,
since
1927. For 40 years he acted as secretary, until his membership was transferred
to I.O.O.F.
Mackinaw Lodge 380 in New Bloomfield. He was past president of Juniata
County Chapter of
American Red Cross; life member of Lost Creek Rod and Gun Club; and a member
of the
McAlisterville Park Association. He was active in the following professional
organizations:
National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association
[and past president
of its Juniata County chapter]; and Pennsylvania Association of Retirees
and its Juniata
County chapter. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters,
Norine Thomas and
Rae Anna Brandt, both of McAlisterville; a brother, Stanley Ziegler, Beech
Creek, PA; a
sister, Anna Matthews, Lancaster, PA; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The
funeral service wag held Thursday at Lost Creek Presbyterian Church, with
Rev. Elaine L.
Fogarty officiating. Interment followed in the Lost Creek Presbyterian
Cemetery. The Ronald
C. Sheaffer Funeral Home, McAlisterville, was in charge of arrangements.
