AUCKER, JAMES --------- James "Jim" Aucker, 70, of Freeburg died at
6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 1995 at his
residence. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Born June 24, 1925 at
Freeburg, Snyder
County, he was the son of the late Robert F. Sr. and Gertrude Steffen Aucker.
He was married
February 15, 1947 to the former Noma Reichenbach, who survives. Mr. Aucker
attended Freeburg
High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII as
a sergeant with
Company E 136th Infantry in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the Bronze
Star with the Oak
Leaf Cluster for his heroism during the Luzon Campaign. Added medals were
the Philippines
Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star; the Asian-Pacific Theatre Service
Medal with two
bronze stars; the good conduct medal; and the Victory Medal. He was honorably
discharged from
the U.S. Army, January 11, 1946, having enlisted August 24, 1943. At the
time of his death,
Mr. Aucker was employed by Selinsgrove Motors, Inc., Selinsgrove, as service
manager. He was
employed by the company for over 46 years. His memberships included: St.
Peters Lutheran
Church, Freeburg; charter and life member of Freeburg Volunteer Fire Company;
charter and
life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars,, Post No. 5640, Middleburg; life
member of American
Legion No. 201, Sunbury; 50-plus-year member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge
No. 1173,
Selinsgrove; life member of Kreamer Sportman's Association; Pennsylvania
Federation of
Sportsmen's Clubs, Inc.; 33rd Division E. Co. 2nd Battalion 136th Regiment
Association;
Lafayette Lodge No. 194 F&AM, Selinsgrove; Ancient Accepted Scottish
Rite - Lodge Council
Chapter Consistory Valley of Williamsport; American Association of Retired
Persons; and the
National Rifle Association. Mr. Aucker was a great outdoorsman and avid
hunter. In addition
to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by three daughters, Jayme Aucker-Huleatt,
Windcrest,
TX, Jan Aucker-Hapstak, Washington, DC, and Julie A. Aucker, Shamokin Dam;
two brothers, Lon
E. Aucker, Albuquerque, NM, and Robert F. Aucker Jr., Freeburg; and two
grandchildren. Mr.
Aucker was preceded in death by a son, Dennis James Aucker, in 1958, and
three sisters,
Arline Amig, Hazel Klinepeter and Edna Mummah. The funeral service was
conducted Thursday
from the George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with Rev. David
K. Louder
officiating. Burial followed the service in the Fairview Cemetery, Freeburg,
where full
military honors were conducted by Veterans of Foreign, Wars, Post No. 5640,
Middleburg. A
Masonic memorial service was held Wednesday evening at the funeral home
by Lafayette Lodge

16, 1995, at Sunbury Hospital. He was born November 9, 1925 in Richfield,
the son of the
late George Auker and Hazel [Shellenberger] Auker of Brookline Manor Convalescent
Home,
Mifflintown RR1. He attended Stony Run School, Richfield RR1. He
served in the Japanese and
European theaters during World War II with the Army. He was employed
as a truck driver for
Noll's Construction until his retirement in 1980. He was a member
of Middleburg Lodge No.
619, Free and Accepted Masons; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council
and Consistory
for the Valley of Harrisburg Chapter; Snyder-Northumberland Scottish Rite
Club; Tall Cedars
of Lebanon, Sunbury Forest No. 65; the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg; Zembo
Shrine Luncheon "Club;
Juniata County Shrine Club. He was a past member of Richfield Lions Club.
He attended the
United Methodist Church, Richfield. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was married to
the former Betty, J. Reynolds, who survives. In addition to his wife
and mother, he is
survived by two sons, Ronald K. Auker of Boiling Springs and Steven Auker
of Carlisle; a
daughter, Bonnie L. Conrad of Mechanicsburg; four brothers, William Auker
of Richfield,
Donald Auker of Lugoff, SC, Richard Auker of Richfield and Edward Auker
of Liverpool; three
sisters, Sarah Graybill of Richfield, Donna Ritzman of McAlisterville and
Marian Mangle of
Lewistown; an grandchildren. The funeral service will be Wednesday,
December 20, at 10:30
a.m. at Richfield United Methodist Church, with Rev. Almon D. Baird and
Pastor Jerry R.
O'Connell officiating Interment will follow in Richfieid Union Cemetery,
Richfield. The

He was preceded in
death by his first wife, Roberta [Marks] Bargo; his second wife, Annie

stepsons, James and William Dougherty; a grandson; a brother; and a sister.
He was a retired
hammer operator for Standard Steel, Burnham. He was a member of Wesley

1, 1994. She was
the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother,
William Penrose
Partner, and two sisters, Vada Slagle and Ruby Partner. Surviving are numerous
nieces and
nephews, including Mildred Osman of Port Royal with whom she lived for
a short time. She
lived on a farm for many years and also was employed by L. Shellenberger
and Son's Garment
Factory, McAlisterville, the former owners of Lyons Fashions, McAlisterville,
from which she

Nellie Bossinger. His wife, Frances [Kuppel] Dolin, whom he married August
14, 1942,

Larry [Melinda] Shipman, Indianapolis, IN, Jacquelyn Schell, Nashville,

grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. He was
a pattern maker/vo-tech
teacher, having taught at the Lewistown Vo-Tech School in the Mifflin County
School District.
He was also employed at Willow Street Vo-Tech School, Lancaster County,
retiring in 1987. He
was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy in the European
Theater. He was
a charter member of West Granville Township Fire Co. and was active in
the former Lewistown
YMCA. Services were held Saturday at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral

for two months.
Born October 8, 1913 in Driftwood Township, Indiana, he was a son of William
C. and Gaye
Blackwood Duncan. May 19, 1952, he married Dorothy Bryant, who survives.
Mr. Duncan retired
as a heavy equipment operator in Pennsylvania. He was a member of Tampico
Christian Church.
He camped at Walker Campground since July 1966 and was known to many as
the "Mayor of the
Campground." In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs.
Ralph [Beverly]
Hattabaugh, Vallonia; a stepmother, Geraldine Duncan, Brownstown; a half-brother,
Billy
Duncan, Greensburg; three half-sisters Janet Woods, Arkansas, and Nancy
Brock and Alice
Fisher, both of Brownstown; a granddaughter, Michelle Burbrink, Corydon,
IN; a grandson, Curt
Hattabaugh, Vallonia; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by two brothers.

1995, in the Lewistown Hospital emergency room. Born December 30,
1939, in Mifflin, he was
a son of the late Ferry E. and Rebecca Mae [Bratton] Dysinger. His wife,
Barbara E. [Ranck]
Dysinger, whom he married September 7, 1960, survives. Also surviving
are: three sons,
Larry K. Dysinger Jr., Oakdale, CT, Tim D. Dysinger and Kevin M. Dysinger,
both of Norfolk,
VA; a sister, Lucille Dysinger-Salvati, Reading; one grandson and two step
granddaughters.
He was a 1959 graduate of Kishacoquillas High School, Milroy. He
retired as a Sergeant
First Class after 20 years of service in the United States Army, including
serving during
the Vietnam War. He was employed as a mechanic at Noerr's Garage, Lewistown.
He was a

William and Margaret Gerow Quackenbush. She married Harold "Had" Fasick
March 24, 1937. She
was a member of Big Flats United Methodist Church and a charter member
of American Legion
Skinner-Ernest Memorial Post No. 1612 Ladies' Auxiliary, Big Flats. In
addition to her
husband, she is survived by two sons, William of Big Flats and Ronald of
Elkland, PA; a
daughter, Toni Fasick; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and several
nieces and
nephews. A memorial service was held Saturday, September 30 at Hills Funeral
Home, Big Flats.
Burial followed in Rural Home Cemetery, Big Flats.

Mifflintown, he was a son of Bertha [Borhman] Fisher Sarver, Newport, and
the late George D.
Fisher Sr. His wife, June [Ehrenzeller] Fisher, survives. In addition to
his wife and mother,
he is also survived by: children, Gail Jacobs, Dover, DE, Resa Fry, Mifflin,
Bryan Fisher,
Chesapeake, VA; sister and brother, Mae Varner, Felton, PA, and Howard
Fisher, New
Cumberland; his stepfather, Robert Sarver, Newport; three grandchildren;
several nieces and
nephews. He was a self-employed truck driver, last employed by CFE Air
Cargo, Norfolk, until
retiring on disability in 1981. He was a member of the Classic Chevy International
Club,
Antique Automobile Club of America, Model "A" Restorers Club, the local
Virginia Chevy
Lovers, Club, MasonDixon Classic Chevy and Cape Henry Model "A" Club. Services

July 14, 1947,

Lewistown. He retired in 1988 as a warehouse manager for Central Penn Supply
Co., Lewistown,
after 22 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
Nook, where he
served as councilman, choir member and as teacher, treasurer and superintendent
of the adult
Sunday school department. He was also a member of Walnut Grange No. 776
and was a charter
member of Beale Township Fire Co. For 38 years, he had served in Boy Scouting
as an assistant
scoutmaster, secretary for committee and had been the recipient of many
scouting honors and
awards, including the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award,
Order of the Arrow,
Vigil Honor and the Lamb Award. He was also a member of Union Lodge No.
324 F&AM, serving as
worshipful master in 1965 and as secretary for 21 years; Lewistown Chapter
No. 186, serving
as excellent high priest in 1979; Juniata Valley Council No. 64, serving
as thrice
illustrious master in 1980; Lewistown Commandry No. 26, serving as eminent
commander in 1980
and 1981; Knight of the York Cross of Honor, serving as eminent prior in
1994 and 1995; Erin
Council No. 6, serving as excellent chief in 1994; Allied Masonic Degrees,
serving as
sovereign master in 1995, Knight Templer Eye Foundation; Order of Silver
Trowel; Red Cross of
Constantine, Trinity Conclave; Holy Royal Arch, Knight Templer Priest,
Tabernacle No. 7;
Harrisburg Consistory; Harrisburg chapter of Rose Croix, serving as Most
Wise Master from

since 1985 and

held at the convenience of the family in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

September 26 at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, where he was a patient

in Mifflintown, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Eda [Koppenhaver]
Fry. He was the
owner of Stowe Machine and Jack for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was
a member of St.
Peter's Lutheran Church, Stowe, Stitcher Lodge No. 254 F&AM and Reading
Consistory. Surviving
in addition to his wife are a son, Gary M. Fry, Stowe; a brother, W. Banks
Frye, Stowe; three
grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by
two brothers, Cloyd
Frye and Paul Frye. Funeral services were held Friday in St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, Stowe,

McAlisterville RR 1,
and the late John Herman Walters. Her husband, Marlin "Butch" Frymoyer,
whom she married

She was a 1980 graduate

Harrisburg. For the past 10 years, she was a homemaker and a secretary
for her family's
business, M.R. Frymoyer Trucking, Mifflintown RR2. She was a member
of East Salem United
Methodist Church, where she was in charge of the youth group. She
organized and was a member
of I Am Ministries, a singing group that performs local concerts.
She had been an assistant
coach for a number of years and was currently president of the Mexico Little
League baseball
team. Services were held Saturday at Thompsontown United Methodist
Church, with Rev. Terry
A. Sheldon officiating. Interment was in East Salem Cemetery. The

who survives. Mrs.
Graham attended the Juniata County rural schools. She retired in 1976 following
over 25 years
employment for Eileen Hope Manufacturing, Inc. of Liverpool, where she
was a seamstress. Mrs.
Graham was a member of Dressler's Ridge United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR2. She
was also a member of Liverpool Fire Company and Ambulance League. She was
well-known for her
talent of baking. In addition to her husband, she is survived by
five children: a son, Glenn
R. Graham, Richfield RR1; and four daughters, E. Pauline Turnbaugh, Newport,
Helen M.
Sheaffer and Violet F. Inch, both of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2 and Judy A.

Crossroads Grammar Schoolhouse, Snyder County. She was employed for over
50 years at
Richfield Shirt Factory as a seamstress. She refired in the mid- 1980s.
Mrs. Graybill was a
member of Richfield Mennonite Church and the adult ladies' Sunday school
class of the church.
She was also a mernber of Richfield Ambulance League and was well-known
for her sewing
abilities. In addition to her husband of nearly 60 years, she is
survived by a son, Donald
R. Graybill, Richfield; a daughter, Lorraine M. Ehrenzeller, McAlisterville
RR1; two
brothers, Robert Graybill, Mifflintown RR2 and Wayne Graybill, Richfield;
two sisters, Ida

Thompsontown. A celebration was held on that date this year honoring their
50th wedding
anniversary. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Rev.

and a daughter, Brenda K. Graybill, both of New Cumberland; a brother,
Raymond Arnold,
Cocolamus; two sisters, Dorothy Davis, McAlisterville RR1, and Vivian Brubaker,

RR1; and three granddaughters. She was predeceased by three brothers, John,
George and Harry,
and one sister, Hazel Booker. She has been employed by L. Shellenberger
and Sons for many
years, beginning in McAlisterville and then retiring from the East Salem
factory. She was an
active member of East Salem United Methodist Church and the United Methodist
Women. The

1995 at his residence. Death was attributed to sudden cardiac death.
Born November 28, 1915
at Snyder County, he was the son of Harry W. and Sula Hoffman Haas.
He attended the
Crossroads Grammar School at Richfield and was employed for 30 years at
the Groce Silk Mill,
Selinsgrove, where he retired in 1980 from his position as foreman. He
also drove school bus
for BKW Bus Lines, Selinsgrove, for many years. Mr. Haas was a member
of Richfield Mennonite
Church. He was a life member of Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company, Selinsgrove,
and Freeburg
Fire Company. Additional memberships include: Loyal Order Of Moose, Millerstown.
He is
survived by two sisters, Marie A. Schrader, Winfield, RR1, and
Joyce I. Hammaker, Richfield
RR1; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Haas

Dice Hood Jr., who

Presbyterian Church,

a daughter of the late Alonza and Clara [Sharpe] Doyle. She was preceded
in death by her
first husband, Hugh Hart on April 9, 1968; her second husband, Gerald Hower
on May 7, 1994; a
son, Billy Lee Hart on May 31, 1989; two brothers and three sisters. Surviving
are: two sons,
Ronald Hart, East Waterford RR1 and Hugh Hart, Wyncote; two sisters, Mary

Shippensburg, and Mabel Miller, Windsor; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She
was a retired postmaster at both McCoysville and East Waterford and a rural
mail carrier. She
was a member of East Waterford Presbyterian Church, Juniata County B.P.W.,

Community Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Dandelion Lioness Club, National
League of
Postmasters, Concord Grange No. 1888, Pomona, State and National Granges
and Juniata Council

morning, October 16, 1995, at Lancaster
General Hospital. Born in McAlisterville, he was a son of the late Ibra

Jones. His wife, Mildred [Getz] Jones, whom he married December 25, 1941,

Flowers, Ephrata. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels at his church
and was one of the
first drivers for the Road to Recovery Program, transporting cancer patients
for treatment at
local hospitals. Services were held Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church,
New Holland, with
Rev. David L. Hunsberger officiating. Interment was in Mellinger's Lutheran

had been a resident
since August 1995. Born in Walker Township, January 31, 1913, he
was the son of the late
Martin and Bertha Kauffman. He attended Free Spring Elementary School,
Mifflintown and
Fayette High School, graduating in the class of 1929. His wife, the
former Bernice R.
Brubaker, whom he married February 23, 1938 survives. He is also
survived by a son, Wayne
Kauffman, Mt. Pleasant Mills; three daughters, June Heller, Millersville,
Shirley Helmuth,
Lebanon, and Doris Dressler, Thompsontown; two brothers, Martin L. Kauffman
and Homer
Kauffman, both of McAlisterville; four sisters, Charlotte VanOrmer, McAlisterville,
Pauline
Hart, Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1, Isabel Mohlmann,
New Port Richey,
FL and Ruth Keiser, Ogden, UT; seven grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.
He started
farming in Walker Township in 1938, and in 1940 he moved to Delaware Township
where he farmed
until 1982. He then worked part-time for five years as a clerk In his son's
business,
Kauffman Farm Supply of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Belleville. He was
a member of Delaware
Mennonite Church, Thompsontown RR 1, where he taught Sunday School and
was a trustee for 23
years. He was Delaware Township auditor for many years and was active in
Agway, Mifflin. The
funeral service was held Saturday, December 9 at Lost Creek Mennonite Church,
Mifflintown RR2
with Pastors David Weaver and Raymond Lauver officiating. Interment followed
in the church
cemetery. Arrangements were by the Ronald C. Sheaffer Funeral Home,

Lyter of Brookline
Retirement Village, Mifflintown RR1; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
She was
preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, Melvin and Fred Frankhouse. She
was a graduate of
Port Royal High School. In her early life she was a teller at the Juniata
Valley Bank until
1932. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Upper Darby. Funeral

Pannebaker, each preceded her in death. Her third husband, Fred W. Kepner,
whom she married
in March of 1977, survives. Also surviving are: a son, Jerry L. Baker,

stepson, Fred W. Kepner II, Denver; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
She was the last
of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Wade
Farleman, in 1975.
She was a retired seamstress, having worked for the Rae-Sel Corp., Port
Royal. She was a
member of Mexico United Methodist Church. Services will be held at 10:30
a.m. Wednesday,
October 11 at Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with Pastor David Biser officiating.

a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family,

preceded in death by three brothers, John Lauver, Delbert Lauver and Blair
Lauver; and four
sisters, May Lauver, Lula Guss, Edna Lauver and Bessie Lauver. She was
the owner/operator of
Esther Lauver's Beauty Shop, Mifflintown for 58 years. She was a member
of Messiah Church,
Mifflintown, where she was past treasurer of Ever-Ready Sunday School Class,
and a member of
Juniata County Business and Professional Women's Club and Mifflintown Rotary.

held Thursday, October 12 at Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Anna M.

died at 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 28,
1995 at the Meda Nipple Convalescent Home, Liverpool, where she had resided
since August 12,
1994. Born January 16, 1898 at Millerstown RR2 [Monroe Township], Juniata
County, she was
the daughter of the late Jerome and Kathryn Stroup Moyer. She was married
to Lee Lauver, who
preceded her in death June 2, 1968. Educated at the Watts Grammar School
in Monroe Township,
Mrs. Lauver was employed by the Shellenberger Shirt Factory, Richfield.
She was a homemaker
and mother. Her church membership was Pleasant Valley Chapel, Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR2. She
was also a member of the Richfield Senior Citizens and the Richfield Ambulance
League. Mrs.
Lauver was employed until her age of 81 by The Zendt Home, Richfield, where
she worked as a
nursing assistant. She also baked and volunteered her skills of cooking
for the nursing
home. During her leisure time, Mrs. Lauver loved gardening. She is survived
by two sons, Roy
V. Lauver, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2, and John A. Lauver, Richfield; three
daughters, Violet L.
Landis, McAlisterville, Ruth E. Deckman, Carlisle, and Naomi L. Frontz,
Bellefonte; 13
grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lauver was the
last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by four sons, twins,
Lawrence and
Lloyd Lauver, at birth, Herbert Lauver, also at birth, and Palmer R. Lauver,
in 1984; two
brothers, John and Roy Moyer; two sisters, Sadie Swartz and Lillian Esterline;
one grandson,
Herbert Lauver, in 1980; and one great-granddaughter, Amy Frontz, in infancy.
The funeral
service was conducted Monday from Pleasant Valley Chapel, with her pastor,
Rev. Ray Troyer,
officiating, and her grandson, Pastor Robert A. Lauver, assisting. Burial

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II.

is survived by her
husband, Juniata County Sheriff H. Thomas Lyter, whom she married November
27, 1971. Also

Lyter, Mifflintown RR4; two brothers, Steven C. Casner and M. Brian Casner,

She was currently
serving her second year of her first term as the treasurer of Juniata County,
having been
elected to fill the position January 1, 1994. Prior to her election, she
had worked in the
treasurer's office as the chief deputy for 17 years. She was a member of
Aldersgate United
Methodist Church of Mifflintown, Mifflin Chapter 260 Order of the Eastern
Star, Juniata
County Business and Professional Womens Club and the Pennsylvania State
Treasurers'
Association. Services were held Monday at Brown Funeral Home, Mifflintown,

She was born February 20,
1957 in Derry Township, Mifflin County, to the late Glennis L. Eaton and

Eaton of Brookline Manor Convalescent Home, Mifflintown RR1. She
is also survived by her
husband, Richard E. Marshall, whom she married August 13, 1977. Also
surviving are one son,
Dennis R. Marshall, at home; one brother, David L. Eaton, Honey Grove RR
1; two sisters, Mrs.
Robert P. [Mary Jane] Casner, Mifflintown, and Mrs. Glenn N. [Rhoda M.]
Bailor, New
Bloomfield. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church,
Reeds Gap and she was
a housewife. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday,
December 13, 1995, from
Brown Funeral Home, 100 Bridge Street, Mifflintown, with Rev. Sharon Landis
officiating.
Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There

McNAIGHT, ANSEL B. ---- Ansel B. McNaight, 74, of Mifflintown, died
at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 1995 at
Lewistown Hospital. He was born May 2, 1921 in Mifflintown, a son of the
late Leo W. and
Susan E. Buffington McNaight. He is survived by his wife, Jean McCormick
McNaight, whom he
married December 28, 1941. Also surviving are two daughters, Jane
M. Shearer of HC 67,
Mifflin and Anne B. McNaight of Wellsboro, and one sister, Elaine M. Cramer
of Mifflintown
RR4. He was a 1940 graduate of Juniata Joint High School and a veteran
of the United States
Army Air Force, serving with the 764th Squadron of the 461st Bomb Group
during World War II.
He was a barber at the former McNaight's Barber Shop, Mifflintown, was
former director of
Veterans' Affairs in Juniata County, was the former Juniata County assessor
and served as
Juniata County's register and recorder, retiring in 1990 after 14 years
of service. He
served as secretary of Mifflintown Borough for 42 years and was a member,
past council member
and past treasurer of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifffintown. He was a Paul
Harris Fellow of
Mifflintown Rotary Club and was past secretary, a position he held for
15 years. He was also
a life member, past commander, past quartermaster and past treasurer of
Crawford-Brubaker
Post 5863 VFW, Mifflintown. He was a member of American Legion Post
298, Mifflintown AmVet
Post 122, Thompsontown, Disabled American Veterans, Mifflintown Hose Company
and Rocky Acres
Lodge. He was instrumental in organizing the teener baseball league
in Juniata County.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown,
with Rev. Anna
M. Ritter officiating. Interment was in Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery,
Mifflintown, where
full military honors were provided by the Juniata County Veterans Council.

was a former supervisor for
American Trading Company, Baltimore, MD. A member of Millerstown
United Methodist Church,
Millerstown, she was the widow of Richard G. Melville. Surviving
are a son, John G. Melville
of Millerstown and three grandchildren. Services were held Saturday,

She was born
August 9, 1913 in Philadelphia, to the late Lewis A. and Kathryn [Lukens]
Haspel. She is
survived by a son Robert G. Miller, Shrewsbury; a niece, Mrs. Rev. Claude
R. [Jean] Baublitz,
Mifflintown RR3; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was
a registered nurse,
having been a graduate of Chestnut full Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia,
before
retiring as the director of nursing service, Chestnut Hill Hospital. She
was a member of
Christ Lutheran Church, Chestnut Hill, where she was active in many church
organizations and
had served on the church council. Private memorial services were held at
the convenience of
the family at Locust Grove Retirement Village Chapel, HC 67, Mifflin, with
Rev. Claude R.

MOYER, PHILIP WAYNE --- Philip Wayne "Doc" Moyer, 77, of Freeburg, died
early Tuesday morning, December 19, 1995 at
his residence. Born April 25, 1918 in Freeburg, he was the son of
the late Lawrence H. and
Anna Hilbish Moyer. He was married October 12, 1946 to the former Mildred
Shirk, who preceded
him in death November 29, 1994. He graduated from Freeburg High School
in 1937. Together
with his father, they founded Moyer's Gas Company, now Moyer and Son Gas
Service of Freeburg.
The company was founded in 1939, and he currently served as vice president
and maintained an
active role in the firm. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church
of Christ, the adult
men's Sunday school class and was also a past member of the consistory
of the church. He was
a member of the Irem Temple Shrine, Wilkes Barre, Williamsport Consistory,
Middleburg Lodge
No. 619, F&AM, and Richfield Lions Club. He was president of the Fairview
Cemetery
Association, Freeburg, a member of the Snyder County Historical Society,
the Alumni
Association of Freeburg High School, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite,
Williamsport, the
Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge No. 197, Selinsgrove, the American
Association of
Retired Persons, the Fraternal Order of Police - Susquehanna Valley Lodge
No. 52,
International Police Association - Pennsylvania Region No. 13 and the Pennsylvania
Sheriffs
Association. He was a life member of Freeburg Fire Company and had
served as a Selinsgrove
School District board member and former board member of the Snyder-Union
Northumberland
Vocational Technical School and also served on the board of the Freeburg-Washington
Elementary School, Freeburg. He is survived by a son, Philip G. Moyer,
Freeburg; three
daughters, Judith A. Kissinger, Richfield RR1, Jan C. Klinger and Jill
L. Moyer, both at
home; and four grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Saturday,

3:15 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 1995, at Hershey
Medical Center. Born June 29, 1915 in Juniata County, he was a son
of the late Samuel and
Isadora [Miller] Paige. His wife, Margaret [Bieber] Paige, whom he
married March 2, 1946,
survives. Also surviving are: children, William M. Paige, Landisburg
RR 1 and Mrs. James
[Donna Jean] Barth, McAlisterville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was
the last of his immediate family, preceded in death by four sisters and
two brothers. He was
a truck driver for Juniata Concrete, retiring in 1976. He was a member
of First Church of the
Brethren, Shaw Avenue, Lewistown, and a life member of the Juniata Saddle
Horse Association.

husband, Joseph E. Pontius, whom she married October 13, 1934, died December
13, 1993.
Survivors include a son, Donald E. Pontius of Port Royal RR2; a grandson;
two great-
granddaughters; two nieces; and two nephews. She was preceded in
death by two sisters, Mary
Haubert and Harriett Boone; and two brothers, Werie Boone and Luther Fisher.
She was a
retired registered nurse, employed at the former F.W. Black Hospital, Lewistown,
and in
private duty. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church,
attended Mifflintown
High School and was a 1933 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing,
Roxborough. The
funeral was held Sunday, November 19 from Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown,

C. Terry III officiating. Interment was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery,

POWLEY, JACK C. ------- Jack C. Powley, 88, of Mifflintown RR3, died
at 2:46 p.m. Monday, October 30, 1995 at
Lewistown Hospital. He was born March 23, 1907, in Mifflintown, to the
late Charles and Julia
[Stoner] Powley. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Powley, whom he
married February 12,
1956. Also surviving are: one son, William A. Renninger, Fowler, OH; one
daughter, Elizabeth
Miller, Harrisburg; and one sister, Bert Nace, Mifflintown. He was preceded
in death by two
brothers, William Powley and John Powley, and two sisters, Clara Rowe and
Ruth Stimler. He
retired on disability as a fireman from the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was
a member of the
Juniata County Sportsmen's Club and was an avid hunter. Funeral services

died at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 24, 1995 at
her home. She was born in Perry Township Snyder County, February 27, 1905,
the daughter of
the late John Lewis and Addie Mae Peters Maneval. She was married to John
Oliver Pyle, who
preceded her in death May 28,1964. Mrs. Pyle attended Smith Grammar School
at Potato Valley,
Snyder County. She was a homemaker and mother, who farmed and raised chickens.
Her leisure
time was spent in gardening and handiwork. Mrs. Pyle was a member and former
Sunday school
teacher at Pleasant Valley Chapel, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2. She is survived
by two sons,
Palmer E. and Lester J. Pyle, both of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1; one brother,
Ralph H. Maneval,
Richfield; two sisters, Sylvia M. Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2, and Goldie
M. Goodling,
Dauphin; ten grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pyle was preceded
in death by
one grandson, Donald Keith Pyle, in infancy; four brothers, Paul A., Eugene
E., Harry H. and
Emory L. Maneval; and one sister, Annie M. Smith, in 1986. The funeral

late Frank B. and Ida May Hower Randolph. He was employed as a railroad
engineer for 42
years, with the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Railroad and Con-Rail, and
retired with
AmTrak. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. He attended Franklintown United
Brethren in Christ
Church. He was a member of Robert Burns Lodge F&AM of Harrisburg, Harrisburg
Consistory,
Harrisburg Zembo Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Shrine Luncheon Club,
Railroad Relief and
Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Jeraldine
L. Randolph; two

RAPP, LESTER M. ------- Lester M. "Barney" Rapp, 79, of Freeburg, died
Sunday afternoon, October 1, 1995 at
Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where he was admitted Tuesday,
September 26. Born
in Juniata County, August 1, 1916, he was the son of the late Lewis and
Ella Portzline Rapp.
July 22, 1942 he married the former Eleanor Glass, who survives. He attended
the Juniata
rural schools. He retired in 1984 after 43 years of employment for Wood
Mode, Inc., Kreamer,
as a laborer. He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Freeburg
since 1963.
Also, he was a life member of Freeburg Fire Company, Freeburg, a member
of Dauntless Hook and
Ladder Company Ambulance League, Selinsgrove, Loyal Order of Moose No.
1173, Selinsgrove and
the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing
and gardening.
Recently, he enjoyed jigsaw puzzle solving. In addition to his wife, he
is survived by four
children: two sons, Lewis F. Rapp, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR2 and Roy E. Rapp,
Shamokin; and two
daughters, Linda M. Leach and Donna K. Hummel, both, de" Freeburg; a sister,
Joy Clark,
Steelton; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. He was preceded
in death by a
daughter, Kathryn E. Rapp, in infancy; a brother, Lewis Rapp; and three
sisters, Vera L.

RENNINGER, ELEANOR ---- Eleanor Cupp Renninger, 80, of Bon Air, VA,
died November 24, 1995 of complications following
a stroke at Ginter Hall West, her residence for a year. Mrs. Renninger
was born in Richmond,
VA, in 1915 and moved with her family to Pennsylvania in 1926. After graduation
from Lock
Haven State Teachers' College in 1937, she worked for the State of Pennsylvania
and then
Prudential Insurance Co. She was married in 1942 to Jay B. Renninger, who
then spent three
years in the South Pacific with the U.S. Army. After the war, they moved
to Virginia, where
Mrs. Renninger taught school in Staunton, Roanoke, Petersburg, Virginia
Beach, Ashland and in
the counties of Chesterfield and Henrico. She also taught one year in Atlanta,
GA. She is
survived by her husband; two brothers, Harvey L. Cupp of Lewes, DE, and
David B. Cupp of
Akron, OH; one sister, Margaret Cupp Chandler of Wilmington, DE; and nine
nieces and nephews.
Services will be private, with burial in Mifflintown.

Anne Reynolds Hawkins of Raleigh; two sons, Douglas S. of Florida and David
L. of Raleigh;

She was the daughter of the late Russell and Minnie Stouffer Shively.

SCHELL, ROBERT LEE ---- Robert Lee "Bob" Schell, 80, of Selinsgrove
RR2, died at 7:40 p.m. Monday, December 18, 1995
at Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Sunbury, where he was admitted
September 20. Mr.
Schell was in failing health for the past year. Born April 5, 1915
in Fayette Township, he
was the son of the late Charles Edward and Lillian Beers Schell. June 28,
1939 he married the
former Ethel Depew, who survives. He was educated in the Union Schoolhouse
at Fayette
Township. From 1943 to 1964 he owned and operated the R.L. Schell Feed
and Grain Mill at Mt.
Pleasant Mills. He retired in 1980 from Pennsylvania House Interiors, Lewisburg,
where he was
a furniture assembler. Mr. Schell was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran
Church, Shamokin
Dam, and also was a member of the adult men's Sunday school class of the
church. Additional
memberships include: Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company Ambulance League,
Selinsgrove, and the
American Association of Retired Persons. During his leisure time,
he maintained an interest
in his family's leather tanning business. In addition to his wife,
he is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Jean Bonta, Phoenix, MD; a brother, Elmer Schell, Grantham;
five sisters,
Florence Eagler, Mifflintown RR1, Juniata Querry, Thompsontown, Anna Fry,
Highspire, Frieda
Kissinger and Hilda Shotsberger, both of Camp Hill; two grandchildren;
and several nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews. He was preceded in death
by: four brothers, Arthur,
Homer, John and Donald Schell and a sister, Bernice Imler. The funeral
service was conducted
Friday, December 22 from St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Shamokin Darn,
with his pastor, Rev.
Wayne C. Muthler, officiating. Burial was made in Goodwill Cemetery, Fayette
Township. The
George P. Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, was in charge of arrangements.

at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 1995 at
Lewistown Hospital. He was born September 22, 1931 in Mifflintown, a son
of the late Ross and
Grace Bell Schlegel. He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Abbott Schlegel,
whom he married
November 11, 1952. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Kenneth [Margaret
Elaine]
McIlhenny of Burns, WY, Mrs. Richard [Wanda Grace] Walters of Mifflintown,
Mrs. Anthony
[Donna] Bryner of Carlisle and Mrs. John [Alice] Harrison of Shippensburg;
one brother,
Harold Schlegel of Mifflintown RR3; one sister, Elsie Tabb of Port Royal;
and eight
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Schlegel, and
one sister, Jane
Shearer. He was retired as a welder and mechanic for Pennsylvania Department
of
Transportation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during
the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services were held Monday at Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown, with
Rev. Jonathan C.
Terry III officiating. Interment was in St. Stephen's Lutheran Cemetery,
Licking Creek
Valley, with the Juniata County Veterans Council conducting full military

of East Waterford], died at 9:30 a.m.
Monday, October 23, 1995 at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford, CT. He
was born August 31,
1907 in Mt. Union, a son of the late Elmer and Dessie [Wilson] Seilhammer.
His wife, Iva
[Stong] Seilhammer, died January 27, 1985. Survivors include: one son,
Harry Seilhammer,
Enfield; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by two
brothers and three sisters. A self-employed electrician, he was a member
of East Waterford
United Methodist Church, Blairs Mills Lions Club, East Waterford Fire Company
and the East
Waterford Senior Citizens Center. Funeral services were held Friday from
the Henry Funeral
Home, Honey Grove, with Rev. Sharon Landis and Rev. William Jones officiating.

SENTE, JEREMY T. ------ Jeremy T. Sente, 15, of State College, died
at his residence Wednesday, November 29, 1995.
Born April 23, 1980, he was the son of Frank L. and Marjory J. Brubaker
Sente, who survive.
He was a sophomore honor roll student at State College Area High School.
In May 1995 he
earned the award for the Outstanding Achievement in Family and Consumer
Sciences. He was also
an active member of the chefs club. He was active in Scouting and
was a member of Cub Pack
No. 380, Boalsburg and had earned the Arrow of Light in 1989. He then was
a member and senior
patrol leader for Boy Scout Troop No. 31 of St. Paul's United Methodist
Church, State College
He was Life Scout and had completed 39 merit badges, including the 22 required
for
consideration for Eagle rank. He belonged to the Order of the Arrow, Monaken
Lodge, Juniata
Valley Council. He had attended the 1993 National Scout Jamboree in Fredericksburg,
VA. In
the summer of 1994 he was counselor in training at the Seven Mountains
Scout Camp. In the
summer of 1995 he served as assistant cook and baker at Seven Mountains
Scout Camp. He was
a route carrier for the Centre Daily Times from August 1993 until May 1994
in State College.
He enjoyed golf, skiing, stamp collecting and conking and aspired to become
a chef and
restaurateur. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal
grandfather, Harvey
B. Brubaker of East Salem and by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Lydia
J.F. Sente of
Salona. The funeral service was Saturday, December 2 with Rev. Robert
A. Graybill

SHUMAKER, EARL E. ----- Earl E. "Ted" Shumaker, 71, of Liverpool, died
at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday evening, September 26,
1995 at Polyclinic Medical Cemter, Harrisburg, following complications
of heart surgery. Born
August 15, 1924 in Buffalo Township, Perry County, he was the son of Margaretta
Wallis
Shumaker of New Bloomfield and the late William Shumaker. December 3, 1950,
he married the
former Alma Crand, who survives. He was educated in the Liverpool schools,
then enlisted in
the United Slates Navy October 7 1942; served during World War II and was
Honorably
discharged October 4, 1948. He earned the American Theater War Campaign
Ribbon, the Asiatic-
Pacific Campaign Ribbon with one silver and one bronze stars, the Philippine
Liberation
Ribbon with two bronze stars and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was
the owner/operator
of Ted's Barber Shop, Liverpool; at the time of his death he was semi-retired.
His
memberships include: member and former church council member of Lutheran
Church of the Good
Shepherd, Liverpool, Liverpool Fire Company and Ambulance League and American
Legion Post No.
364, Liverpool. He was also a charter member of Liverpool Planning Commission
and was a
member of Liverpool Borough Council. Additionally, he was a member of Lafayette
Lodge No.
194, F&AM, Selinsgrove, and the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, Washington,
DC. Durnig his
leisure time, Mr. enjoyed fishing, gardening and, most of all, spending
valuable time with
his beloved grandchildren, Bryan and Ashley. In addition to his mother
and wife, he is
survived by a daughter, Suzanne E. Watkins, LaHabra Heights, CA; a brother,
David L. "Duck"
Shumaker, Liverpool; a sister, Audrey Earnest. Mechanicsburg; and two grandchildren.
He was

she had resided
since June 12, 1992. Born in Oriental, July 1, 1901, she was the daughter
of the late John
and Mary K. Brown Phillips. She was preceded in death by her first husband,
J. Walter
Zellers. She later married Harvey L. Spriggle, who also preceded her in
death in 1966. She
attended the Juniata County schools at Oriental. Mrs. Spriggle was a homemaker
and mother.
She was well-known for her baking skills, especially for her cookies. She
was the oldest
living member of Richfield United Church of Christ, and also a member of
the Women's Guild of
the church. She is survived by a daughter, Velma I. Bolig, Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR1; a step-
daughter, Luella M. Smith, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR1; a sister, Beulah Wendt,
Mt. Pleasant Mills
RR1; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Spriggle was
preceded in death by

daughter of the late Abraham L. and Amand [Focht] Eshleman. Her husband,
Howard E. Stine Sr.,

in 1964. She was a

STRAWSER, WALTER F. --- Walter F. "Schnick" Strawser, 76, of Richfield
RR1, died at 9.45 pm., Thursday, December 21,
1905 at Lewistown Hospital. He had been in failing health for many years.
Born August 8, 1919
at Monroe Township, he was the son of the late Sherman Strawser and Emma
Watts Strawser
Rhodes. He was married to the former Ruth A. Leitzel, who preceded him
in death December 28,
1971. He was educated in Monroe Township schools. Mr. Strawser enlisted
and served with the
U.S. Army during WWII. He was self-employed in plumbing and heating
and masonry; due to ill
health, Mr. Strawser was forced to an early retirement. He also owned and
operated a gun shop
at his residence, as he was a licensed gunsmith for over 25 years.
Mr. Strawser was a member
of Richfield Mennonite Church, where he was a member of the men's Sunday
school class. He was
a member of Richfield Fire Co. and Ambulance League. He was a former member
of the National
Rifle Association. Mr. Strawser is survived by three daughters, Ethel
N. Strawser, Richfield
RR1, Linda L. Strawser, Richfield, and Delores O. Strawser, Mt. Pleasant
Mills RR2; three
brothers, Paul E. Strawser, McAlisterville RR1, Sherman L. Strawser, Millerstown
RR2, and
Rev. James Strawser, Richfield RR1; eight grandchildren; and three greatgrandsons.
Mr.
Strawser was preceded in death by one son, Sidney H. Strawser, in infancy;
one granddaughter,
Lisa Strawser; three brothers, John, S. Nestor and Earl; and two sisters,
Ellen Graybill and

Nellie Brackbill Titzell. Survivors include his wife, Jean Winey
Titzell, whom he married
June 9, 1944; two sons, R. Lynn Titzell of Mechanicsburg and David L. Titzell
of Boiling

He was a
retired car salesman for Sunderland Chevrolet, Lemoyne and a member of

TROUTMAN, WILBERT A. -- Wilbert A. "Buss" Troutman, 79, of Newport,
died Saturday, November 18, 1995, at Perry
Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield. Born September 17, 1916 in
Marysville, he was a son of
Samuel S. and Martha Seaman Troutman. He was a retired engineer from
the former Penn Central
Railroad, and he was a life member of Newport Ambulance League. He
was the widower of Elsie
P. Troutman. Survivors include: sons, Ken Troutman of Newport and
James B. Troutman of
Herndon, VA; daughters, Susan A. Laverty of Mt. Holly Springs, Peggy J.
Carl of Newport,
Marge Troutman of Highspire, Geraldine E. Good of Thompsontown and Lois
Allwein of
Shippensburg; brothers, William Troutman and Donald Troutman, both of Carlisle,

grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Viewing and visitation will
be Friday, November
24, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport.
There will also be
viewing and visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25,
prior to the, funeral
service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Newport. Officiating
for the service
will be his son-in-law, Rev. Michael E. Allwein. Burial will be in
St. Matthew Lutheran

Rock], died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, September
27, 1995, at Lewistown Hospital. She was born December 22, 1921 in Reedsville,
to the late
Walter R. and Fyatta [Libby] Worrall Sr. She was also preceded in death
by her step-mother
Kathaleen E. [Britcher] Worrall. She is survived by her companion of 28
years, Alonza L.
"Lonzie" Laird, Mifflintown RR1. Also surviving are: five brothers, Walter
R. Worrall Jr.,
James E. Worrall, Floyd A, Worrall, Clark M. Worrall, all of Mifflintown
RR1, and Stanley T.
Worrall, Mifflintown RR3; three sisters, Faye De Armitt, Mifflin, Roxie
Bell, Mifflintown RR1
and Donna Andrus, Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by a son Edward
Weiand on September
20, 1967; two brothers, Dugald Ayers and Russell Ayers; and four sisters,
Sylvia Noble,
Goldie Grose, Esther Dunn and Betty Gray. She was a member of Arch Rock
United Methodist
Church, Mifflintown RR1. She retired in 1967 from Empire Kosher Poultry,
Inc., Mifflintown.
Funeral services were held Saturday from Brown Funeral Home, Mifflintown,
with Rev. Jonathan
C. Terry III officiating. Burial was in In Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery,
Mifflintown.

WILLOW, NEWTON E. ----- Newton E. Willow, 85, of Liverpool RR1, died
Saturday, September 30, 1995, at 5:25 p.m. at
his residence. He was born in Freeburg December 2, 1909, the son of the
late John and Amanda
[Pyle] Willow. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lydia A.
Boyer, in 1979. He
was a former employee of Maple Lawn Hatchery, Richfield, and was last employed
by the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He was a member of the bible
Baptist Church,
Liverpool RR2 and Liverpool Fire Company. He is survived by a son, Newton
E. Willow Jr. of
York; a daughter, Shirley I. Arnold of Liverpool RR1; two sisters, Lottie
Swartz of
Gettysburg and Mary Spade of Richfield RR2; four grandchildren; three stepchildren;
three
great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by a stepson
Palmer Kline; three brothers, Park, Banks and Carl; and a sister, Mabel
Kahley. The funeral
service will be held Wednesday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. from the George
P. Garman Funeral
Home, Liverpool with Rev. Robert T. Gray Jr. officiating. Burial will be
in Dressler's Ridge

WISEHAUPT, MARY E. ---- Mary E. Wisehaupt, 83, of Port Royal RR2 [Academia],
died Monday morning, October 9, 1995, at
her home. Born June 5, 1912 in Spruce Hill Township, she was a daughter
of the late Ira B.
and Effie [Evans] Wisehaupt. Surviving are: children Paul W. Burd, Port
Royal, Carl W. Burd,
Port Royal RR2; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. She was the
last of her immediate
family, having been preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Wisehaupt. She
was a retired
farmer and a graduate of Port Royal High School. She was a member of Port
Royal Lutheran
Church and Spruce Hill Grange No. 772. Services were held Friday at Rex
Funeral Home, Port
Royal, with Rev. M. Eugene Heidler officiating. Interment was in Old Church
Hill Cemetery,
Port Royal.

WITMER II, JOHN GALEN - John G. Witmer II, 89, of Liverpool RR2, died
at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 1995, at
Harrisburg Hospital, where he was admitted Saturday, December 2.
Born May 22, 1906 in Perry
County, he was the son of the Late John Galen and Carrie Sheaffer Witmer
Sr. He was married
to the former Edna Mae Sausman, who preceded him in death January 18, 1994.
Mr. Witmer
attended the Seven Stars Grammar Schoolhouse and the Mt. Patrick Schoolhouse.
He was engaged
in farming his entire life and was also employed as a school bus contractor
and driver for
Newport School District. He then did various jobs of contracting for the
former John Swanger
of Lancaster, and was also instrumental in the construction of the Indiantown
Gap Military
Reservation in East Hampton Township, Lebanon County. He also worked for
the Pennsylvania
Railroad at the Enola Yards. Mr. Witmer was a member of the Halifax
congregation of the
Jehovah Witnesses, Halifax. Additionally, he was a member of Liverpool
Fire Company and
Ambulance League. He is survived by five sons, William G. Witmer,
Newport, John G. Witmer
III, Harrisburg, Richard C. Witmer, Liverpool RR2, James C. Witmer, Liverpool
and Gary L.
Witmer, Enola; three daughters, Dorothy E. Haller, Greenbackville, VA,
Ruth P. Shearer,
Harrisburg and Connie E. Dietz, Liverpool RR2; a brother, Jay S. Witmer,
Liverpool RR2; 27
grandchildren, 32 greatgrandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren.
In addition to his
wife, Mr. Witmer was preceded in death by a grandson, Dean A. Witmer, on
August 28, 1989; six
sisters, three in infancy, and Ada Mitchell, Melinda Grubb and Margaret
Beaver. Funeral
services were conducted Sunday, December 17 from the George P. Garman Funeral
Home,
Liverpool, with Elder Dennis L. Orwan of the Halifax Congregation of Jehovah
Witnesses
officiating. Burial was in Hunter's Valley Cemetery, Liverpool RR2.

ZEIDERS, ARTHUR FELTMAN - Arthur F. "Art" Zeiders, 86, of Richfield,
died at 10:05 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 1995,
at Penn Lutheran Village Nursing Home, Selinsgrove, where he was admitted
April 5, 1995. He
was a lifelong resident of Richfield. Born September 17, 1909 at
Knousetown, Monroe
Township, he was the son of the late George U. and Louisa Feltman Zeiders.
October 7, 1933
he married the former Beulah Aneda Kratzer, who preceded him in death December
22, 1994.
Mr. Zeiders was educated at Watts Grammar Schoolhouse, Monroe Township.
He was inducted
into the military, serving with the United States Army in World War II.
His induction was
March 11, 1944. He was a private with Company D 3rd Engineer Training Battalion.
He was
honorably discharged at Fort Dix, NJ November 18, 1944. He was a
highway construction,
worker as an equipment operator and foreman for various companies from
1930 to his
retirement in March 1973. From 1930 he was employed by the Pennsylvania
Department of
Highways, then from 1940 by the F.D. Kessler, Inc. Company of Northumberland
for 18 years.
Following that he worked in Allentown for the former Sheesley Company and
the Central
Pennsylvania Quarry and Stripping Company, Hazleton. In 1966 Zeiders was
employed for B.E.
Reichenbach, Inc. Company as a general superintendent, retiring in Marc
Mr. Zeiders was a
life member of Richfield Lions Club and of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge
No. 1173,
Selinsgrove. He was a member of Middleburg Lodge No. 619, F&AM, the
Ancient Accepted
Scottish Rite Lodge, Council, Chapter, Consistory, Valley of Harrisburg,
the Snyder-
Northumberland County Scottish Rite Club of Harrisburg Consistory, Tall
Cedars of Lebanon;
Juniata Valley Forest No. 88, the American Association of Retired Persons,
American Legion
Post No. 298, Mifflintown, and Juniata Post Home, Inc., Mifflintown.
He was very active in
his hometown with the following memberships: in the 1940s and 1950s he
served 12 years as a
Monroe Township School Director and was very involved with the jointure
and construction of
East Juniata High School and Monroe Township Elementary School, Richfield.
He was a member
of Richfield Ambulance League, Inc. and Richfield Fire Company. He had
served on the Board
of Directors of Richfield Area Joint authority and was perhaps best known
as the Richfield
Union Cemetery's diligent caretaker for over 15 years. He also was treasurer
of Richfield
Cemetery Association for 12 years and a member of the Board of Directors
of the Cemetery
Association since June 1976. He was a member of Richfield United
Church of Christ for over
50 years, having served as a deacon and elder for several years. He also
served as church,
treasurer, along with duties as treasurer of St. Peters United Church of
Christ. Following
his retirement in March 1973, Mr. Zeiders enjoyed volunteering many hours
for the Richfield
Dutch Days Association. He headed the "Country Store" for the Dutch Days
festival and
served as president of the Board of Directors for the Richfield Community
Center.
Additionally, he enjoyed hunting. He is survived by four daughters,
M. Joann Lenker,
Richfield, Cynthia A. Kline, Millerstown RR2, Donna L. Sheaffer, Kutztown,
and Delores E.
Mumma, Manheim; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death
by two sons, Donald R. and Kenneth A. Zeiders, both in infancy. The
funeral service was
conducted Monday, December 18, from Richfield United Church of Christ with
Rev. Thomas E.
Adams Jr. officiating and Pastor Jerry R. O'Connell of Richfield Mennonite
Church
assisting. Burial was in Richfield Union Cemetery, where full military
honors were accorded
by American Legion Post No. 298, Mifflintown. Arrangements were by
the George P. Garman
Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills. A Masonic memorial service was
held Sunday, December 17,
by Middleburg Lodge No. 619. Memorial contributions may be made to

of Leola, died at 5:49 p.m. Saturday,
December 2, 1995, at the home of Samuel J. Peachey. Born September
24, 1897, in Belleville,
she was a daughter of the late Moses P. and Mary [Kauffman] Zook.
Her first husband, Samuel
M. Peachey, whom she married November 23, 1919, and her second husband,
Amos D. Zook, whom
she married February 16, 1962, each preceded her in death. Surviving
are: children, Mrs. Sam
J. [Mary] Peachey, Mifflintown RR 1, Aaron M. Peachey, Virginia, Ben S.
Peachey, Stuarts
Draft, VA; stepchildren, Abner K. Zook, Womelsdorf, Aaron K. Zook, Kinzer,

two sons, a stepson and a
stepdaughter. She was a member of the Old Order Amish. Services
were held Tuesday at the
home of Paul Troyer, Mifflintown RR 1, with Shem Swarey and David Zook
officiating. Interment
was in Locust Grove Cemetery, Belleville. Guss Funeral Home, Mifflintown,
was in charge of
arrangements.
