diane - as you are probably aware there are several lines of paynes
in the
n.va and dc areas - and i never seem to hit it off with any of them,,,but
i
still reamin optimistic.
can you tell me some more information on john t and mary payne -
have you been
able toi come up with another gen past him or do you know if john
t had any
siblings . it is possible that we share a grandfather somewhere
- my line goes
back as follows..
-julia payne (daughter of)
- john payne (son of)
-william payne (son of)
-william payne (son of)
- ananias payne,,,
it is possible that john t. payne could be a son of john payne above
or a son
of the william (first to last)
can you provide me with some dates,
and what does the 't' stand for - theodore or thomas ??
look forward to hearing from you.

My name is Clarence R. Wilson. My great-great grandfather was
Peter Powell of
Petersburg, Virginia. His father was a slave known as No-Touch.
No-Touch and
Peter lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia before the Civil War.
Peter was
owned by or worked for a Powell before the War and took the name
of Powell
after he was freed. I am trying to find the family that we
got that name
from. It seem that the owner of No-Touch had reletives somewhere
up North. I
hope you can help me with any information.
Thank you for your help.
