When his children were young he got work where he could find it.  He dug ditchs, and odd jobs.  When his children were growing he desided to go back to school, he went to school in Pottstown, learned to speek English.  He would practice his english with his children.  He than got a better job at a Machine shop in Royersford, and better able to support his growing family.
Their daughter Ellizabeth 'Betty' remembers the hard times.  She talked about pulling a wagon to the school, when they were on 'releif' and getting flour, and other food items they were giving away to the poor.
They bought a house, but they never forgot their tough times.  They put in a garden and would invite the poor of all races to their house for sunday meals.  They would take the vegetables from the garden and take them to those who were in need.
