Jerusalem Day celebrates the reunification of Jerusalem. From 1948, when the State of Israel was formed, until 1967, Jerusalem was a divided city, half belonging to Israel and half to Jordan. The Old City, which contains holy sites of all three major religions, was under Jordanian control. In the Six Day War in 1967, Israel won control of the entire city and Jerusalem remains an Israeli city to this day.
On Jerusalem Day, thousands of people flock to Jerusalem. Students participate in an annual "march" through the holy city. In schools, special activities are planned in honor of this special day.
I would like to celebrate Jerusalem Day by sharing several pictures that I have taken in Jerusalem over the years. Jerusalem is the most beautiful, special city in the world (although this might not be reflected in my very unprofessional photography...).
