Shavuot

On Shavuot, the Feast of Weeks, we celebrate having received the Torah, or God's law, at Mount Sinai. As with most Jewish holidays, this festival has agricultural roots, as well, being a harvest festival. It is also referred to as the holiday of the first fruits.

Do you like cheese cake? Well, this is the day to eat it! It is traditional to eat dairy foods on Shavuot, especially cheese cake. We also eat fruits. Kindergarten children normally celebrate the holiday at school (several days before, as there is no school on Shavuot!) by bringing a basket of fruit and sometimes by wearing flowered wreaths, as well.
