Al's Fun Stuff!

Are you thinking about getting a cat? Please remember before you do, that cute little kittens grow up and can live for years. If you are twelve years old you may still have that same cat after you get out of high school. If you go to college, she may be there after you graduate in four years! Think about these things!
How will you choose a kitten? If you remember, my friend said to look for the one that seems well adjusted in the litter.
These are just a few things to think about before you drive back to the "FREE KITTENS" sign you passed on the road!
Is it male or female? When kittens are very young it is difficult to determine whether you have "Tom" or "Felina." Be SURE to have someone who knows what they are doing or you may be surprised later (litter?). Even if you don't care which it is, it is a good idea to know. What are the differences between owning a male and female cat? Maybe we should first answer the ? about whether your cat will stay inside or stay outside first. Male cats are more prone to 'roam' the neighborhood. They also 'spray' to mark their territory (outside OR inside -- whew! what's that smell?) I hear if they are neutered before they start marking that it is not too bad. They are cheaper to have neutered than females. After his little surgery he may stay closer to home. Please don't let him roam unneutered and become someones elses problem! Female cats are a bit more expensive to care for, but will make a nice pet also. They tend to stay closer to home. You need to decide whether you will breed your cat (is she a registered breed or common house cat?). If not sure, go ahead and have her spayed. Then you won't be surprised with the first litter! She will also be less obnoxious in the house -- females in heat act kinda wierd sometimes!
