Licensing
AMD is responsible for issuing licenses for pets and holding facilities, such as kennels and pet shops, as required by Prince George's County Animal Control Ordinance. Animal control processes application for licenses and determines the appropriate license fees. AMD issues over 18,000 licenses a year.
Kennel Services
Kennel services are provided by a private contractor at the Animal Management Facility for animals that need to be temporarily housed by the County. Services include the maintenance of the shelter, the dispatch of animal-related calls, the Adoption/Redemption Program, the tracking of lost and found animals, and the Spay/Neuter Program.
The Adoption/Redemption Program works to place animals in homes and return animals brought into the Animal Shelter to their owners. The Lost and Found Program assist residents in finding their lost pets. When a pet is reported missing or brought into the Animal Management Facility, a report is made and the tracking process to locate the owner begins.
AMD provides residents with information on the Spay/Neuter Program. Every February is Spay/Neuter Month and AMD distributes discount coupons from local veterinarians to residents wanting to have their pets altered.
