Clam-Shell Ornaments
Materials:
- Clam shells (steamer clams)
- glitter
- sequins
- ribbon and lace
- glue and/or fabric paint
- anything else decorative
- Newspapers
Instructions:
- Either buy clam-shells or after eating clams for dinner, carefully
wash them out and let them dry.* If you do not have access to clam shells, other shells will work, as will paper
cutouts in the shape of clams.
- First of all, spread out newspapers on your work area so as to
keep it clean. Then, begin by attaching a piece of ribbon or string to the shell
to hang it by. (See figure 1)
Figure 1
- Using glue and glitter or fabric paint, draw swirls or any other
kind of design onto the shell. You can also attach sequins, snowflakes,
flowers, feathers, ribbon, lace, or any other kind of item that you can think of.
- After carefully completing your ornament, set it aside where it
can dry without being ruined. Once dry, the ornaments can be hung all
around the house or wherever it would make things a little bit prettier.
If you do not eat clams, try contacting a seafood restaurant or a grocery store and ask if they would either donate some or would sell them to you.
