5th grade classroom procedures

 

7:30AM Early Bird Reading Program.

1. Go immediately to the assigned room.

Students may not leave here without permission of supervising teacher until the school day begins. 

8:00AM Entering the classroom and begin school.

1. Place coat, sweater, and/or book bag in the back of the room. You may not

wear coats at your desk.

2. Bring all items needed to your desk.

3. Write prayer requests or sharpen pencils now.

  1. 4. Ask permission to use the bathroom now (until 8:10 A.M.) The next bathroom
  2. break is not until 1st recess.

5. Pay attention when asked about lunch for today. Lunch count starts promptly

at 8:10 A.M.

6. Be seated by 8:10 A.M. Failure to do so will result in your name being written

on the board.

8:15AM Devotions (Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri.) and Chapel.

    1. When the 8:12 A.M. bell rings, quietly line up at the door for school devotions.
    2. Make sure on devotions days you have your hymnal!

      2. We will walk to the gym (to church on chapel day) quietly (when inside).

      3. Enter the front door (gym) and be seated where told.

      4. Remain quiet when devotions/chapel begins.

      5. Line up when told, and quietly return to the class.

      6. Sit at your desk and prepare for science (On chapel day, prepare for reading).

      9:55AM Recess

      12:00PM 1. Line up when told.

      2:45PM 2. Walk quietly to the playground (or gym).

      3. If in class, movement around the classroom is free. You may sit with or

      the game of your choice.

      4. At lunch, we pray then quietly line up for recess. The most quiet

      person/group is lined up earliest.

      5. After school, bring everything with you for dismissal. The room must be

      empty by 2:45 p.m.

      6. Line up at the end of recess, returning to room quietly. (After AM and

      Lunch recess, we will line up to go to the restroom first. Note that these are our only bathroom breaks during the day).

      7. Sit at your desk and prepare for your next class. Late students will have

      names put on the board.

      11:30AM Clean up, hand washing break, and prayer.

      1. When instructed, stop all you are doing, return to your seats and be quiet.

    3. We will pray the blessing ("Come Lord Jesus..."), then quietly line-up. Sometimes I
    4. will use special orders, sometimes we will line up using games. Most of the time,

      the most quiet line up first.

    5. We will walk to the middle school bathrooms for hand washing. The sooner you
    6. wash, the sooner you eat.

    7. Stay quiet in the halls.Talkers/noise makers are sent to the end of the line.

5. We will walk all together to the lunchroom.

11:35AM Lunch

 

1.You may sit where you want in our group of tables.

  1. 2.You may sit where you choose as long as your behavior remains acceptable.
  2. 3.When directed by the teachers, we will all become quiet, then return thanks.
  3. 4.Throw away garbage and return trays. Clean your area of all trash and food.

12:50PM Prepare for gym

    1. Following social studies, students will get their gym uniforms and shower things, then

line-up.

2. Quietly walk to the locker rooms.

3. Dress immediately! Report to the gym no later than 12:55 PM.

4. The other students report to health class at 12:50 PM.

1:35PM Gym ends.

1. Teacher directs you to the locker room. Walk there and remain quiet.

2. All students will shower following gym.

3. Change back into school clothes only.

4. At 1:40 PM, line up and return to the class.

5. Place your gym clothes, etc., at the coat racks.

6. Be seated and prepare for class. Late students have names put on the board.

1:40PM Memory class:

1. Clear your desk except for a pencil.

2. Remain quiet at all times unless asked to participate, so you may concentrate.

3. If necessary, pass your papers across the row when asked to do so; OR be

prepared to grade with your red pencil.

 

2:30PM Closing procedures.

    1. Remain seated until after closing prayer (unless you have a specific assigned job).
    2. If you have not done so already, write down all assignments in your assignment
    3. book (even if they have been finished) and Mr. S. will sign it.

    4. As Mr. Schwantz signs books, prepare all books and homework in a stack on your

desk and wait there for closing prayers.

4. Pray. Stack chair on your desk, get coats and book bags, then line up at the

door. Take everything outside with you to recess, so you'll make the bus.

SPECIFIC 5th grade class procedures

 

QUESTION: What do I do when...

1....I NEED TO ASK THE TEACHER A QUESTION?

a. During quiet desk work, PLACE YOUR TEXTBOOK UPRIGHT.

b. During group work, ASK YOUR GROUP BUDDIES FIRST. If you

cannot answer the question, PLACE YOUR TEXTBOOK UPRIGHT.

c. During discussion or any other time, RAISE YOUR HAND.

2...I NEED TO USE THE RESTROOM/GET A DRINK DURING CLASS TIME?

a. ONLY FOR EMERGENCIES. That is the ONLY exception. The

same applies for drinks of water.

NOTE: I do not like class time interrupted at all unless you really must use the

restroom. Otherwise, we use the restroom a possible four times per day.

3...I NEED TO USE THE PENCIL SHARPENER, GET A KLEENEX, OR GET

SOMETHING RELATED TO CLASS TIME THAT CANNOT WAIT?

a. Quietly go get it.

b. If it can wait, wait until the next open time.

4...MY ASSIGNMENT IS FINISHED EARLY?

a. PUT YOUR TEXTBOOK UPRIGHT to tell the teacher.

b. CONTINUE TO WORK OR READ until the teacher sees you.

5...THE FIRE DRILL (one long ring) OR TORNADO DRILL (many short rings) SOUNDS?

a. BECOME IMMEDIATELY QUIET AND STAND UP. (push in chair).

b. LISTEN FOR WHICH BELL IT IS BY THE RINGS.

c. WATCH AND LISTEN TO THE TEACHER FOR INSTRUCTIONS.

d. DO WHAT HAS BEEN PRACTICED:

* Fire drill - walk out the room to line up outside.

* Tornado drill - walk out the room, enter the building, turn right and

get into disaster drill position near Mrs. Martin’s room.

6...I MISSED THE BUS?

a. See the supervising teacher RIGHT AWAY.

7...THE BELL RINGS

a. Start of the day: you should be seated by now.

b. End of the day: wait for the TEACHER, NOT THE BELL, to dismiss you.

QUESTION: WHERE OR HOW DO I...

1...SIGN UP FOR SOMETHING?

a. Sign up during free times.

b. See the teacher if there is no sign up sheet.

2...FIND MY ASSIGNMENTS?

a. Daily assignments are written on the board OR can be found on our class

Website (www.geocities.com/heartland/prairie/6225).

    1. Old assignments (worksheets) may be found in a folder in the student center,

your mailbox, or with Mr. Schwantz.

3...START MY PAPERS??

    1. Here is the heading on papers in Mr. Schwantz's class. Do this at the top of

looseleaf paper, above the 1st line:

write your name (Richard Schwantz) write your number

write the name of the class (Math) in the corner (530)

write the date (August 20, 1999)

write assignment pages & numbers

(page 134, #1-25)

    1. On the top of worksheets or tests, fill in all the information asked for, AND

WRITE YOUR NUMBER IN THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER.

c. If you forget your number, it is on your nameplate.

 

4...PLACE MY HOMEWORK PAPERS

a. Place all papers away when asked by the teacher. WAIT for this instruction.

b. Place your homework in your subject folder ONLY.

c. When asked by the teacher, PASS YOUR PAPERS ACROSS THE ROWS TO

WHERE THE TEACHER IS WAITING TO COLLECT THEM.

d. Place all FINISHED homework in your Friday Folder. You will find this

information in your mailbox.

5... GRADE PAPERS

a. Wait for the teacher's instruction to either GRADE YOUR OWN PAPER or to

TRADE YOUR PAPER.

b. Get out a red grading pencil.

c. Write your name and NUMBER on the BOTTOM of the paper you are

grading (even if it is your paper).

d. LISTEN to how Mr. Schwantz wants the paper graded.

e. Use "C" for correct; use "X" for incorrect.

    1. If asked to, pass the graded papers ACROSS the row. You may tell or QUICKLY

show the paper to the person for whom you graded while you are passing them across the rows.
