LAMESA-Mrs Alma Land, 77, of Austin died about 2 p.m. Thursday in the home of her daughter in Lovington, N.M. She was the sister of Mrs Minnie King of Stanton. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church in Lamesa. Interment will be in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Survivors include three sons, two daughters, a brother, 15 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Talmadge Whitehead, 64, this city, was dead upon arrival at a Lamesa Hospital Monday at 9 a.m. after apparently suffering a heart seizure.Services were held at North Ridge Methodist Church in Lamesa with the Rev Howell Wattkins officiating. Burial followed in Lamesa Memorial Park.Whitehead was born Dec 11, 1901, in Winston County, Mo. He haaad lived in Martin and Dawson Counties 34 years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was employed by Barton County Fresh Water District.Survivors include the widow; three son, Maxie Whitehead of Cleburne, Esther of North Las Vegas, NV and Arris of Lamesa; one daughter, Mrs Joy McClain of Missooouri; two sisters, Mrs Minnie King of Stanton, and Mrs Alma Land of Austin; one brotther, Lucas Whitehead of Stanton; a niece, Mrs Lanita Flippo of Stanton, and six grandchildren.
COLEMAN-Lucas Whitehead, 86, of Glen Cove, a community near Coleman, died at 10:06 p.m. Thursday in Brownwood Regional Hospital. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Henderson Funeral Home of Coleman.Charles Mitchell, pastor of Glen Cove Baptist Church, will officiate. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Lamesa Memorial Cemetery.Born Sept 6, 1899, in Winston County, Miss, he married Thelma Kate Everts on Nov 6, 1930, in Stanton. He moved to Coleman County from Stanton in 1972. He was a member of the Glen Cove Baptist Church. He was a farmer. Survivors include his wife and a sister, Mrs Minnie King of Stanton.
