According to Mary Turpin Laytin (Brawners of Maryland), the Brawner's arrived in the Maryland Colony with Calvert, Lord Baltimore in 1634. This was the first generation, and their names are not yet known. Nor is it known whom all their children were. It is said the Brawner's are descended "from Calvert through first son, and also from Thomas Green, the second governor of the Maryland Colony". The earliest records of Brawner's in America are in 1682, when Henry Brawner registered his cattle marks. He located in Charles County, Maryland whose county seat is Laplata, Maryland. Two pieces of property were deeded in 1687 to Henry Brawner. These were known as Hopewell and Fortune. Henry purchased Hopewell and patented Fortune. They were located on the south side of Mattawoman Creek adjoining each other, "and beholden of the Manor of Zachia in Charles County, Province of Maryland". It is believed that Henry was born in 1656 - he died in 1698. His wife, Mary (Brock) Brawner, married again after Henry's death and resided in Prince Georges County. She died in 1727 as Mary Elliott. Henry and Mary Brawner had five children - Edward, Henry, William, John, and Mary.
