Marquesses Scaglia

The Turin branch is decorated with the title of Verrua Marquesses. It certainly originated from noble or notable lineage and is identified in traditional bibliographical sources kept in the Araldis archive, which proves that the S. family left traces during these times.

The Scaglias' required that their hystorical origin and their placing on the territory (Piemonte) be recorded in texts, to  immortalize the magnificence, the deeds, and the worth of the family.

Only at the beginning of fifteenth century do concessions of land titles  to people and families occur more frequently without a feud.

The certain abode of the S. family  in Biella, Ivrea and Turin is therefore confirming that we are facing a family name which by full right raised its coat of arms to Marquesses rank.

The coronet is an arabesqued golden ring with gems, which holds three golden flowers up. Between the flowers are six pearls grouped by three like a clover.

The coat of arms of S. family is made of silver, the black cross is quartered by four lozenges.

Ancient plain coats of arms with a limited number of figures, become more complicated  later, when partitions and increasing variety of pictures, colours and ornaments took place.

In this case, the predominance of silver corresponds to the purity, the virginity, the innocence, the humility, the truth, the moderation, besides the clemency, the kindness, the sincerity, the harmony, the joyfulness, the victory, and the eloquence.
Silver is the second metal after gold and is the symbol of the moon.
