Anna Maria Johansdotter
(J1a1) was born 1/30/1864 on Svedjorna farm in Ullasjö parish, Älvsborgs, Sweden. She lived in the house until 11/20/1882 when she went to find work in Sexdrega. She emigrated from Sweden in 1888 and probably came with her sister Paulina Christina. When she came into Philadelphia her name was changed to Anna Mary Johnson. Nothing is known of her until she was reported as owning and running a boarding house at 126 Union St. in Philadelphia. Previous to her marriage she gave birth to her first child, Emily. Anna and Edward R. Penson were married around 1899. He was born in July of 1868 in England. He left England and came to America in 1895. By 1900 they were living in Cheltenham Twp. in Montgomery Co., just outside of Philadelphia. Edward's trade was as a coachman and he chauffeured around a man by the name of Curtiss. Anna, about this time, opened up the Penson home to take in borders. By 1914 Edward and his family were living on Marsden St. in the Tacony, Philadelphia.
