Revlon Dolls

My Last childhood doll was a wonderful 18" Miss Revlon. She was dressed in the outfit called Cherries Jubilee -- it was a pink organdy dress with red cherries printed on it. She wore seamed nylons, black sling back shoes and a straw hat with flowers. My Mom made her a beautiful white fur coat and hat. I have a picture of me and her under the Christmas Tree in 1957, and an enlargement just of the pretty one.

She was in pristine condition for many years until one of my cats got to her and shredded her dress to bits!

It was not until recently that I decided to try to find an original dress for her and that's what got me started on doll collecting!

Ideal Toy Corporation, in Hollis New York, produced these wonderful dolls in the fifties. (The most definitive book on Ideal dolls has been written by Judith Izen -- and it is a must for doll collectors.) They also came out with a 10 1/2 inch version that they called Little Miss Revlon. The LMRevlon had an extensive wardrobe. She was a true forerunner of the Barbie doll. The pictures below are of these fashionable ladies wearing their original outfits. (Non-original items are noted, otherwize the outfits are, to the best of my knowledge, original.)

Little Miss Revlon

Little Miss Revlon came dressed in her Formit girdle and bra, wearing white high-heeled shoes and most often with earrings -- usually single pearl drops. (The earrings have proven to be a problem to collectors, because when the dolls are stored in damp areas the metal tarnishes and turns the ears green. The doll below is a mint condition doll except for the green ears. Remove-Zit, a product by Twin Pines of Maine, often removes stains. I am working on this dolls ears and will report my success here.)

The dolls had a hang tag on their wrists and a booklet describing outfits available. The boxes were as illustrated here: with pictures of the doll, or decorated with red and gold diamond pattern. In either case, the type of doll enclosed was printed on the box -- e.g. Pony Tail Blond as in my doll.

Here are my dolls wearing some of the outfits that I was lucky to find for them. If you have an outfit for sale that is not shown here, please let me know, I would probably like to buy it from you.

This outfit is #9123 called School Dress. I believe it came in a number of different colors.

This outfit is #9105 called Torso Dress. It came in different prints and colors. I have two in my collection.

This outfit is #9122 called Party Dress. It is made of red taffeta with shiny silver trim and a single tiny rhinestone at the bodice. It came with a purse. I would love to know if it came in different colors. I have found this check version of the same dress also.

This outfit is 9141 called Sunday Outfit. It came with a hat which had a veil. Maybe someday I'll find it!

This outfit is my favorite. It is #9254 called Striped Suit. I have the hat for this one, although the feather is a little tired! I even have the box it came in. Under the jacket is a sleeveless wool shell.

This outfit is #9121 called Gay Striped Dress. It came with a purse I don't have.

This outfit is #9114 called School Dress.

This outfit is #9116 Calypso Blouse and Skirt. I have two versions of this one. In the second version, the yellow top is a body suit with lace trim around the leg holes.

This outfit is #9211 called Sunsuit. It's a two piece outfit consisting of a strapless short-set and a separate tie-on overskirt. It came with a hat. This may be the correct one, but if it is not, the original looked identical to it.

This outfit is #9170 Debutante Bridal Gown. It is a slightly different version than in the booklet. In the booklet the gown has only lace. This gown has some satin as you can see. Other than the satin it is the same and it is tagged.

This outfit is #9172 called Bridal. It came with the little flower bouquet. It's a lovely drop waist dress with a lace bodice and satin skirt with netting on top.

This is outfit #9160 Taffeta Formal. This outfit was also made for the larger Revlon dolls and is pictured in Judith Izen's book on a Revlon. I also know that this gown came in pale blue.

One of the reasons that I enjoy collecting dolls of the 50's is that they remind me so much of my childhood and growing up. My sister who is about 5 years older, was a gorgeous teenager and young woman. (I on the other hand was an ugly duckling that never quite turned into a swan!) She looked wonderful in all her clothes and of course attended all the schools proms. I think that I lived her life vicariously through my dolls. Here is a picture of Carol in one of her prom gowns. Now doesn't she look like a LMRevlon?

This is outfit #9130 Sailor Outfit. It came with a little hat which I regretable don't have.

This is a tagged outfit, I have been told it is #9132. I don't know for certain if this information is correct.

This is outfit number 9252 Raincoat, Boots, Tote Bag. It is a slight variation since it is solid and the booklet shows a print design. Don't you love the boots!! I can remember having a similar pair to wear over heels!

I call this my "Marilyn Monroe" picture! I believe the number for this outfit is #9420. It is a tagged dress with the typical LMR belt with intertwined gold circles on the front.

Ihis outfit is a green print sundress with a green netting on top. It is tagged but I don't know the number or name.

This outfit is #9142 Princess Styled Outfit. It came with a hat and purse.

This outfit is #9158 Nylon Formal. This outfit is another of my favorite ones.

This outfit is #9216 Sun Dress and Bonnet.

This outfit is #9159 Debutante Gown. It has a beautiful white satin slip with back trim underneath it. This outfit is much more spectacular in person. The fabric is beautiful shiny silver and the fullness of the skirt is wonderful. This may be the best of my outfits.

This outfit is #9249 Negligee Set. It comes with matching pink shoes. The detail - the ribbons on the nightie and robe - make it quite lovely.

I don't know the number of this outfit yet. It is a LMR outfit documented in several articles published in various magazines such as "Dollreader." It is a skirt and blouse with a straw hat with trim matching the outfit.

This outfit is #9115 Polka Dot Dress. It came in at least three colors, red, pink and blue. The blue is actually brighter than appears in my photo. This dress appears on the cover of the LMR booklet that shows the outfits available for LMRevlon. The booklet doesn't show all the outfits. I believe it only shows those available for one year.

This outfit #9118 "Traveling Outfit" was given to me as a gift by Judy Izen. (I had supplied several pictures of my dolls for her new book.) It came with a crinoline slip and a great hate in the matching yellow with blue trim. I'll be looking for the hat!

This is a tagged LMRevlon spring/summer coat. I don't know the number. It is a lovely brown cotton fabric with white collar and cuffs, with a single snap closure. It draps beautifully!

This untagged outfit is definately a LMRevlon outfit. I have seen it listed in various magazines. It has a beautiful black velvet top that ties at the back of the neck. There is a tiny rhinestone at the neckline in the front and has a full red skirt with black and gold print. I like to call it her Christmas dress.

This outfit is #9215 "2-Piece Playsuit". It has royal blue bermuda shorts and a red blouse with blue rick-rack. I belive it is a harder item to find. I was lucky to get it in a large collection I purchased on eBay.

This outfit is #9207 "TV Lounging Outfit"> It consists of a teri cloth top with 3 snaps, corduroy pants, a net hair scarf, and glasses. This outfit is another I rarely see available.

These outfits are #9208 "Pedal Pusher Outfit". I like them because they are soooo 50's. Notice the outfit came with eye-glasses. I have two different prints - there may have been more.

This outfit is #9178 "Pajamas".

This is #9257 "Artist's Outfit".

This is #9209 "Jeans and Shirt." It came with a straw hat, for which I am still searching.

This is a tagged coat. It is black/white check with the most adorable red trim around the collar and sleeves. It may be #9240 but that coat is shown with 4 buttons and this has only one snap so, I'm not sure.

This is #9256 "Nurse Outfit" - or part of it, I think. It is the dress part. The nurse outfit has a pinafore and cap that I don't have yet. However, I like the dress alone!

I don't know the number of this outfit. It is tagged and often refered to as the "windmill" dress because of the windmill pattern in the fabric.

This is outfit #9179 "Lounging Pajamas." I traded an extra outfit with an internet friend for this one.

This outfit is #9119 "Jumper." This outfit has a blue cotton jumper with pink rickrack trim and an attached white with pink decoration organdy blouse.

This outfit is #9117 "Traveling Outfit." It comes with a hat and crinoline slip. I don't have either. It is very similar to Gay Striped Dress except that the necklines are slightly different and this dress has two red snaps in the front and a wide plastic belt with a snap. The dress closes in the front.

This gown is absolutely drop dead gorgeous color, and a lovely design. It is recognized as a LMR gown, but no number is know. My gown is tagged.

This is the LMR carrying case. It is another of the harder items to locate. The inside has an area to store one doll, hang several dresses, and store accessories in a drawer below the clothing.

More outfits coming soon!
