Here in my little corner of the world, I had never thought much about animal rescue. Oh, we have a humane society shelter here where unwanted animals go. But, I never thought about what the dogs and cats go through in the shelter. We have a nice shelter and the animals receive good care. What I'm talking about is the way the pets feel being put in a strange place with no member of their family there. That's why doing this page means so much to me. The pictures here are of my furry family.
This is Jake, he is 12 years young. I bought him at a yard sale. My friends tell me that if I hadn't seen him at the sale that day, Jake would have joined his brothers and sisters, that didn't get sold, at Rainbow Bridge. He had hook worms so bad if I hadn't taken him to the vet right away he wouldn't be here today.
This is Sonny. He's 7 years old. The first time I saw Sonny he was in a cardboard box with his mom and three other puppies. They were so cute and only 10 days old. We didn't know the mommy cocker's name so, since she was black, I called her Ebony. A lady pulled up in front of my neighbor's house and got out, put the box on the front porch and said, "You have Cockers, find these a home. They are pure cocker and I don't want them. The puppies make a mess on the floor." She got in her car and left. Everyone at my neighbor's house either works all day or goes to school so she asked if I would take them. So...that is how we got Sonny. The others got good homes and we kept Sonny, the only one that wasn't black.
It is with great sorrow that I tell you all that Sonny went to Rainbow Bridge on May 13, 2004. He died as a result of complications from epilepsy. Had he lived, he would have been 8 years old on June 6, 2004. We loved him very much and he will be greatly missed.
This beautiful face is Diego. We aren't sure when his birthday is, so We'll use the day he came to stay with us in July 1999. We're not even sure how old he is but we'll guess and say he's 7. He was my foster baby. He came to us from Mercer County in Pennsylvania. He was looking for a very good home through C_O_C_K_E_R_S Rescue. We loved him so much we couldn't let him go. He found his forever home with us!
I'd like to introduce you to Playtime's All That Jazz "Jasper" or as I call him, Jazzy. Jazzy will be 10 months old on 1-16-05. Jazzy isn't a rescue, he was bred by Kathy Palmer of Playtime Cockers in Missouri, and got to ride the whole way home to PA in a semi truck!
This portrait was done by Chris of Canine Creations. Isn't Jazzy a handsome boy?
Please visit the Canine Creations website to see other beautiful portraits and learn how you can have one done of your best friend.
There are beautiful cocker spaniels in need of forever homes on the following sites. If you can't adopt a little sweetheart, please think of either sponsoring or fostering a cocker on one of these sites, or donating to the rescue of your choice. The vet bills really mount up when you take in these little ones. Some of the dogs and puppies aren't in very good shape when they come into rescue. They need emergency medical attention and later need to be spayed or neutered. Some of these poor souls have special needs, some are blind, lame or have to take medication for the rest of their lives. They still need forever homes and lots of love. Rescuers do everything they can so the dog or puppy you adopt will be healthy. Thanks for visiting.
