Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers

Hips - dysplasia is rare
Eyes - some
few problems with juvenile cataracts, retained or late developing membranes, PRA

Kidneys - This is the major health problem with wheaties. Protein wasting disease, and kidney failure.

Skin Problems - allergies, itchy skin, dry flakey skin

Generally a healthy lot.

Hip dysplasia - All breeding stock should be X-rayed  at 2 years of age and certified clear of hip dysplasia.

Eyes - a few problems with PRA - rare

Heart - heart disease and early heart attacks

Bone and joint problems - not a genetic problem but often due to their size may have problems with damaged or ruptured cruciate ligaments.

Cancer -  some lines more prone to this than others but a problem throughout the breed.

Thyroid problems - not overly common but  under active thyroid problems have been known.
