I have here a special feature of my homepage, a diary of my Lolo (grandfather) which I still have since I found it in my Lolo's cabinet while we're cleaning his old stuff.
Since then, I kept it on a safe place as a souvenir from one of my Lolo's treasured collections, and it even won a prize as the "oldest diary" when my Daddy joined the contest in GMA Supershow (when I told him I got Lolo's diary) for the promotion of the movie "Dear Diary" (I forgot the stars of that movie... never mind!).
It's an old diary, the pages already turned brown and crisp but the contents of it are still there, they didn't fade. It's very enhancing and inspiring when you read the whole diary.
By the way, my Lolo's name was Tomas Angeles or Tom for short, sounds familiar, right? But he's not the one you always see on TV in Home Along da Riles, who owns a sari-sari store and bestfriend of Kevin (Dolphy). Nope!! Definitely he's really not, just a resemblance of his name. But actually I first saw that old guy (Mang Tomas) when I got my Lolo's stamp album and there's a picture of him (Mang Tomas), probably Lolo included his picture just to show us that he had a name same as with Tom Angeles, a guitarist, a legend of the Filipino showbiz industry!!
Lolo liked to collect stamps (which I think I inherited from him that hobby), old coins, postcards, pictures (Daddy, my Kuyas like to take pictures and me too!! all of us!!...it runs on the blood, huh!), old calendars, sweepstakes tickets, magazines and many more and of course writing on his diary,ooopps... I won't forget that he liked penpals (ha-ha-ha) and forced Daddy to meet his penpal in person :-)...maybe because of stamps.... to collect and collect from them thru mails.
It's so sad that I just spent a little time with my Lolo. He died on March 7, 1978 at the age of 69 while I was just 6 years old then (turning 7). I remember he liked to play "Atin Cu Pong Singsing" (Capampangan for"I have a ring") with his "silindro" (harmonica) in front of us, me and my other cousins, we were kids then.
I really admire his writings ( I wish I could write just like him), some special moments with their kids were written there, their resolutions, budgets, expenses, family life and many more which reflect our Filipino values. I could hardly explain my feelings toward his diary just see it for yourself and you would believe it.That's why I am sharing this to you, his diary.
So here's the exerpt from his diary (I didn't even edit this)....
