Victory over Eating
Key verse: Romans 8:37 In all these things we are more than conquerors through
Him who loved us.
Purpose: Our purpose is to help God's people live in victory over their desire
for food and thus in subjection to God.
Goal: To help those in bondage to food to break the bondage through accountability,
support, scripture and prayer.
Plan: Through weekly meetings, including weighing-in, learn God's plan for our
eating and how to treat our body as His holy temple.
Servant-leaders:
One person will mediate the group and lead them through the books and scriptures.
Two people will be in charge of the scale and keeping records for the individuals to give them accountability. If one of these persons is absent, they will find an appropriate substitue.
Weight goals will be set prayerfully by the individual and submitted to the goal recorders. This is not a requirement, especially with those struggling with eating disorders or health problems.
Weekly goals will be encouraged. If goals are unrealistic, it is the job of the goal recorder to gently counsel the individuals to more realistic goals, but to always keep in mind that the ultimate goal is for individuals to learn to listen to and trust God's voice.
The weekly goals that are set should not be concerning pounds lost or gained, but the things the person will do during the week.
Since the group is a mission of the church, offering will be taken and given to the church, including for any materials that are purchased by individuals from the church. Any materials are also subject to church approval.
No dues will be charged.
An excercise leader will encourage members to excercise as they are able and will educate on exercise. The exercise leader will also hold individuals accountable for the goals that the individuals have prayerfully set for themselves.
Meetings:
Meetings will last one hour. They will be on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 7:30. If an interest is shown in a day time meeting, that will be established also. Before the meeting actually starts, there will be a weigh-in time that will be done in private for those desiring it. An individual's weight is always a private matter, between God, them and the goal recorders. With the goal recorders' permission, anyone who was not able to weigh-in before
the meeting may weigh-in at the close of the meeting.
Meetings will open with prayer, followed by a time of worship and praise. This will be followed by praise reports (such as goals met, obstacles overcome, prayers answered.) Then a time of sharing any personal obstacles or business that the group may need to address.
The exercise leader will take a time for training.
Then the group servant-leader will lead in that weeks' study. The individuals will pray and submit their goals for the next week to the appropriate servant leader.
We encourage using the buddy system for those "tough" times during the week when we are tempted. The individuals will choose who they wish to have as their prayer partner and fellow warrior.
