Step Two

Victory over eating
Step two

Step two: Came to believe that through Jesus Christ we could be restored to right relationship with God the Father and subsequently control our fleshly desires.

This step talks about coming to believe that we will have a right relationship with God the Father. As we look at those who do have this right relationship and have controlled their fleshly desires, their lives seem much happier and their service to God much freer than those who haven't. This is what God wants to do for each of us and will as we give Him the opportunity.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have everlasting life.

  2. How are we perishing before we have that life?
  3. Have you believed on the son to give you life?

  1. Who is the thief and what is he trying to destroy in your life?
  2. What do you think of when you think of abundant life? Is food a part of that?
  3. How can you have a more abundant life?

If you are craving a food, it is better to eat a bite of it than to try to safisfy that craving by eating something else and then still craving until you give in and have eaten more than you would have in the first place.

Psalm 85:2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins.

  1. When does your eating become iniquity?
  2. Are there "good" foods and "bad" foods? Why or why not.
  3. Have you ever tried to cover your sins yourself? How? Did it work?

Psalm 143:9 Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord, for I hide myself in you.

  1. Who are your enemies?
  2. How do we hide ourselves in God?

Do not wait; the time will never be "just right." Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I tell you, Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important that clothes?

  2. How does your self-image interfere with your life?
  3. What is important in your life?
