What is Galaxy?

Galaxy is a "Play by E-mail" (PBeM) game. This means receive a report 3-5 times a week of the current state of the game, and then you give your orders for what you want do to next. Its all done with E-mail. In galaxy you develop planets, build ships, and battle for ultimate conquest of the Galaxy. You are playing with real people and that is what makes it so exciting and unpredictable.

What is Galaxy Explorer?

Galaxy Explorer is a variant of Galaxy that adds many cool features like limited visiblilty of the galaxy, wrap around so there are no corners, new combat rules so that all guns fire simultaneously, and the ability to develop ships at alternate tech levels. This is the specific variant that GalaxyChart was written exclusively for.

What is GalaxyChart?

GalaxyChart is a Tool to assist in playing Galaxy Explorer. GalaxyChart is written in Java, so it should be able to be run on almost any platform. It also runs as an applet from a web browser. The program itself has 5 main functions now.
  1. The View. This displays the galaxy with planets, ships, routing, incoming, bombings, battles and more. The view is interactive, so by clicking on a planet, you will see details on production capiblilties and orbiting ships. The map also show distances by dragging the mouse. This view is configurable to make it easier to see exactly what you are looking for.
  2. The Developer. This help you develop the maximum ships for your dollar including: upgrading, requirement based design, cargo effects on velocity and shields and more. It can use current planet specification, and allows for partial production technologies.
  3. The Simulator . This uses GalaxyExplorer rules for combat (ie all ships shoot each round, dead removed, repeat until winner or draw). Ships can be cut and pasted into fleets and then you can run the battle 1/10/100 times to see the results.
  4. The ReportReader. Sometimes all these tools don't give you an answer you want. So the ReportReader allows quick access to different areas of the report and summaries of specific alien information from all parts of the turn report.
  5. The Message Center . A tool for quicker access to E-mail messages and for turning in you orders each turn. It can save you old orders for easy repair of mistakes in orders.

If you have a java1.1 compliant browser try out this DEMO . (Feel free to use this as often as you like)
