Lotus Bog turned Pond
June 2001: Last summer I decided I wanted a lotus bog. Since I am now an "old hand" at this ponding business, I drug my two large liner scraps from the shed, seamed them together, and measured them out. Doing some quick calculations, I discovered my bog could be a whopping 4'x8'x20". I grabbed my shovel and made a pitiful site digging my hole, until hubby finally took pity on me and took over! *L* Anyways, the bog was wonderful.....UNTIL I discoved this spring that it WOULD NOT, NO WAY, NO HOW, hold water! I'd fill it up, and within 30 minutes I would have mud only. This was not my idea of a beautiful lotus bog. So I grabbed my shovel once more (with abit less enthusiasm this time, and started digging out my bog. All my lotus starts had died over the winter, so I was able to hack away. I discovered that the lotus had ripped all my seams apart! There was no way I was EVER going to go through this again, so I decided that with some mending tape this bog would make a wonderful lily/goldfish pond. I was right! Although it is really green in this picture, I really am enjoying it.
As our pond enters it's 4th season it is really becoming alot less work. We moved all the goldfish out (at least we attempted - sneaky littly baby goldfish outwitted us this round!) so now all we are raising in this pond is koi and frogs. The landscaping on the east side of the stream died over the winter for some odd reason, but other than that there was very little maintence needed to get the pond back in shape.
The waterfall finally is covered with rocks. I love the way the water rushes out. There was alot of deliberation on getting the water to flow just right.
