Cleaning the Pond April 2000: Time to clean the pond again. Didn't we just do this? I know it's been a year, but YUCK! Last year we didn't clean out the deep hole, so we decided we'd better clean it this year. Boy, we'll never let that go 2 years again!

There's really not too much to talk about on this topic, other than it's disgusting and it smells! We drained the pond, scooped out the fish, used the sump pump and garden hose to get all the gunk out, then refilled it. We added declorinator and "bugs", but that's all. We did have an "incident" with the fish while cleaning. We had put our fish in a stock tank and didn't even think about covering it up. OF COURSE our 4 koi jumped out. We found them almost dried up and barely alive. We tossed them back in the water, and soon they were swimming around again! They did sport a nice coat of algae on one side for about 3 weeks, but it eventually went away.
