Time to Dig
May 31, 1998:We took the pond kit back. I have seen time and time again during my research that the biggest regret of ponders is in not making their pond large enough. Hubby and I knew that we would never be happy with the 8'x13' kit we had. And, just to be on the safe side, I drew up plans to add another, larger pond with a connecting stream and foot bridge! Right now, this is not even a consideration (got to get one pond in before I expand!), but at least I feel better knowing where and how another pond can be added.
June 5, 1998:We have lived with the current size and shape of our pond for several days (still just a garden hose lying on the grass, + my flowers are getting thirsty!), so we spray painted around the hose. We can still easily alter the shape or size with more spray paint should we run into unexpected problems, such as a buried boulder or something else. We have no water, gas, sewer, or electic lines under our pond, so we're safe there. We are going to run our electricity to our pond as soon as the hole is dug, but before we fill it with water.
If you look closely, you can see the line level we used to build up the south end, as well as where we have removed the grass.
