The Children of
Giuseppe and Febronia Amato Collorafi
and Emigration

In several other sections of this book, including the chapter on Emigration, we discuss the economic climate of Sicily at the turn of the century, which was in a depression. This, and other elements of life in Sicily that have been enumerated, seemed to have encouraged some of our Collorafi family to leave Sicily and look for more opportunities for their families.

Among the families that left Sicily, around the turn of the century are some of the children of Giuseppe and Febronia Amato Collorafi. This information comes to us from the civil records of Patti, and also the memory and records of descendants in the United States, France, and Italy. Giuseppe Collorafi was born about 1831 in Patti. His parents were Rosario Collorafi and Caternia Marfo or Caternia Gambino. He married Febronia Amato in Patti, and she died prior to 1877 in Patti.

Giuseppe and Febronia had at least five children:

1. Rosario was born about 1852 and married Maria Panta in 1877. He emigrates to Tunisia.
2. Antonino was born about 1855 and marries Maria Giuseppa Aiello.
3. Pietro Collorafi was born about 1858. He marriesd Maria DiNatale in Patti and eventually moves to New York.
4. Maria Caterina Collorafi marries Luigi Marino, and arrives in New York on October 9, 1899. She was born in 1849.
5. Giuseppe Collorafi was born about 1856. He marries Febronia Amato and moved to Tunisia.

The family tree of Giuseppe and Febronia Amato Collorafi follows, as does more information about the descendants of Rosario, Giuseppe, and Pietro Collorafi.
