Notes

[NI0005] PADRE AND MADRE COLLORAFFI ARE PRETEND ANCESTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!They are not real. I made them up because there is a gap of several generations in the records available and I needed to use them as "place markers" so that we can then list all of the ancestors that we have found in the civil records of Librizzi, San Piero Patti, Patti & Sant' Agata di Militello. Perhaps some day we will have these records, but it is also possible than none exist, since records were not required until 1820 in Sicily. If we find the correct information, it can easily be added and corrected. Janice Colloraffi Anschuetz

[NI0022] Domenico is burried at Acacia Park Cemetery, 31300 Beverly Hills Rd. Southfield, MI.

[NI0027] Vincenzo Colloraffi came to New York on a ship named Sempione, sailing from Palermo, Sicily, Italy to New York, arriving on May 11, 1900, when he was 19 years old. This information is from the Ellis Island research project. His parents came to New York in October, 1901 and his brother, Biagio, came at the age of 30, in 1905. Vincenzo worked as a tailor in New York. His sisters, Maria Teresa, Maria and Guiseppa all came to New York with him on the Sempione.

[NI0028] The birth date and parents names for Maria Modica are verified from her social security application #060-09-2065. Maria Modica came to the USA with her family when she was about 12 years old. She had gone to school in Sant'Agata Di Militello and was proud of being a good student. She told her grandchildren that when she came to New York, her parents dressed her in her best clothes and off she went to school. She was put in a kindergarten class with 5 year olds because she could not speak English. She never went back to school! Instead, she started working as a seamstress in New York. She worked all of her life until she retired at age 65. On her application for social security, which she filled out on November 26, 1936, she was working for Al Samuels, Inc. at 1375 Broadway in New York. Her address was 1126 Fteley Avenue, Bronx. She signed the form by writing her name "Mary Modica Colloraffi" and signing the form "Meri Modica Colloraffi".

She was a very tidy housekeeper and always had a very cheerful apartment with holy water in the bedroom and holy pictures on the walls. She wore fresly washed and starched and ironed housedresses. While in the Bronx, she lived in an Italian neighborhood and even married a man from her hometown of Sant' Agata. She worked and lived with other Italians, listened to music in Italian, read italian papers and cooked traditional foods. The address listed on her application for social security in 1936 is 1126 Fteley Ave., Bronx, NY. She loved to talk about her mischevious twin brothers, Sam and Louie, who continued to plan jokes on each other and other people until their death, when they werein their 80's.

She liked to feed her grandchildren Italian cookies and orange juice and ice cream. You could never finish anything without having another cookie in your hand or your glass refilled. She was a very independent woman and moved to Detroit to be near her 3 children when she retired. She had a stocked pantry so that when the weather was bad, and she could not go out, she would have food. While on a shopping trip with her friend Inez, 2 thugs tried to grab her pocket book. Maria fought back and ended up in the hospital with hip surgery. While recovering, she decided to spend the rest of her days in a nursing home where she grew to love the staff and they loved her. When some of them moved to a newer facility, Maria made the arrangements to move there too. She was remembered for tightly pinching both cheeks of a grandchild at one time - pulling the cheeks out - and saying "Youra soa cutea". Her biggest heartbreak was that she lived to experience the deaths of two of her three children, her daughters Lucy and Josie, as well as a beloved grand daughter, Eleanor.

Ellis Island records have Maria coming the the port of New York with her mother, Lucia, and younger brother, Antonio on August 18, 1902 from the port of Naples on the ship Roma. However, the records have her surname and that of her brother wrong, and well as her age. She was 12 years old. Her last name is listed as Regalbuto, the same as her mother's legal name. Antonio's name is also listed as a Regalbuto. In Italy, at the time, a woman maintained her birth name as her legal name, even though married.

[NI0647] We read of Angelo in the ship's manifest at Ellis Island. He came to the USA at the age of 2 in 1905, with his sister and parents.

[NI0710] Carmelo's birth record in the civil records of Librizzi gives his date of birth, parents names and his father's profession. He has died by 1903 as listed in the marriage record of his daughter, Angelina in the civil records of San Piero Patti. Information about Carmelo's family & marriage are from the records of both Librizzi, where he lived when Giuseppe was born, and San Piero Patti, where we found the birth records of his other children. His address is listed on the death record of his daughter, Nunzia as Capagna Niguo Easta al numero uno.

[NI0711] Maria's age is listed on her marriage record, as are her parents' names.

[NI0712] Giuseppe is remembered as being crippled. He wheeled himself around his farm on a board with wheels. It is said that he inherited his vineyard and hazlenut grove from his parents because of his disability. His birthdate is given in the civil records of Librizzi, as is the names of his parents.

[NI0713] Maria Lanzillotti is remembered by her family as liking the finer things in life. She was considered refined and liked to live well.

[NI0714] We find Carmelo's death record in the civil records of San Piero Patti, Sicily. I believe that he is 8 years old, but it could be 8 months. This is written in a very messy way.

[NI0716] Angelo is remembered by his children and grandchildren as loving children, being a good gardener and a great story teller. He told stories about WW II, as well as other stories. His grand daughter, Jennifer loved his stories told in broken English. One that she recalled is when he was captured in North Africa during WW II. I labled it "The Golden Tooth". Angelo said that the night was very, very dark as he was rowed in a boat in a river in Africa as a captured Italian soldier. It was so dark that no one could see anyone else in the boat, except for Angelo, he could see the front gold tooth shine of one of the men who was now his captor. His daughter Jackie remembered his story of the "Werewolf of San Piero Patti" which he told to a hushed group of grandchildren.

Angelo was a very good gardener, and his daughter said that he would notice if even one tomato had been picked.

[NI0719] Maria Casella was born in West New York, New Jersey, acording to her grandson, Giuseppe (Joseph) Collorafi. Her family moved back to Sicily when she was a little girl. She came back to the United States in 1953 and brought her husband, Angelo, and children, Mario, Tindaro, Giuseppe and Rose over in April of 1955. They settled in West Haverstraw, New York. Maria Gioconda was born in Suffex New York in 1959. Information about her parents and birth date are found on her application for a social security number on December 12, 1953. Her address at that time was Box 374, West Haverstraw, NY.

[NI0747] The information on Serafina (Fina) comes from her son, Pietro S. Collorafi and also social security records, #116-03-4705. When Fina applies for social security on May 20, 1937, she gives us her parents' names. At that time she was living at 1699 Lexington Ave., NY, NY and employed at Max Littwitz, Inc. on 7 East 47th St. She states that she was born on March 3, 1900 in Italy, which is a different birth date than that obtained by family members. Serafina's grandson told me that "Fina" was on a visit to New York, when she got a message from her family that Mr. Etna, above her hometown of Catania, was in the process of eruption, and not to come home for awhile. This turned out to be an advantage because, while in New York, she met and married the handsome Charles (Calagoro) Collorafi from Patti, Sicilia.

[NI0764] We know about this Michele from the marriage record of his son, Concetto, in the civil records of Patti. I have no idea that he belongs with these parents, but have placed him here because of his age, the location of Patti, and his occupation, which is a fruit seller. There are also other Concettos or Concettans in this branch of the family...but also several in the Sant' Agata di Militello branch.

[NI0765] I have found no evidence of a Pipino Collorafi, son of these parents in the civil records. I am guessing that unless other evidence comes forth, this person will be removed from this family and deleted. He is placed here, temporarily, as part of an oral family history given to us by a grandson of Domenico.

[NI0766] In the birth record of his daughter, Febronia, born on May 31, 1888, Pietro's age is listed as 30. His wife is named as Maria DiNatale. His profession is listed as a "marinaio" or "seaman" on the birth record of his son, Calogoro. His address is given on the birth records of his children. It looks like nella casa posta in LaMorso Marinia.

Pietro is the wittness at the wedding of two of his nieces, his brother Rosario's daughters, Antonina and also Febronia. his age is veritified on these records and his profession is listed as a "marino", which can be translated as a ship worker.

Pietro's age and his parents names are given on his marriage certificate in Patti Civil records. Information on this family is from Pietro's grandson, Peter S. Collorafi of New York in 1999 and also the civil records of Patti and death records of social security.

We have 2 of the same photos of Pietro. One came from his g-grand daughter Michele Collorafi Rooney, from England. We received another photo from Rita Collorafi Destenay of France. Her parents, Marie Collorafi & Giuseppe Collorafi had it in Tunisia.

[NI0768] We find Tindaro's birth and marriage records in the civil records of Librizzi. Information about his family is provided by his grandson, Tindaro Collorafi, from family records. Tindaro and his family emigrated to the United States in 1915. Ugo was born in Hackensack, NY in 1916. Tindaro moved his family back to Librizzi, Sicily in 1917.

[NI0769] In his death certificate, Gaetano's parents are named, both having died. It also states that he lived in Librizzi!

[NI0770] We find reference to Giac in the Militello census of 1681. It is an interesting name since it is the Sicilian version of the French, Jacque. The north-east section of Sicily where the Patti and Militello areas are situated, has a very strong Norman (French speaking) influence. He is mentioned as the father of both Francesco Colorofe and Maccleo Colorofe. He may be the Giac living in the household of Francesco. However, no ages are given, nor are the relationships specified, as they are in the early census of Librizzi. Remember, the Colorofe/Cullurafi mentioned as his parent and that of Don Cullurafi, are there only so that we can show all of the early ancestors that we have found in Sicilia.

[NI0771] The information about Pietro and Angela's birth years, parents and birthplaces comes from the civil records of San Piero Patti. We also have his birth record and certificate of marriage from the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI0772] Ugo gives his mother's name as Giuseppina Batolo on his application for social security or replacement request for lost card on April 19, 1963. We learn her parents' names from the civil records of Librizzi & also her place of birth. These are on her marriage record.

[NI0773] We find the bith record for Alberto in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI0774] We find Michele's birth information in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI0775] Bisilio's birth record, spelling of his name and his parents names is in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI0776] Information about Michelangelo's birth, parents, and marriage are from the civil records of Librizzi. His parents' profession is given as landowners for both Anna and Domenico.

[NI0777] This is a PRETEND ANCESTOR that I placed here in order to be able to show all of the Collorofe/Collorofi/Cullurafi families that were found in the census of Militello, San Piero Patti, Patti & Librizzi in 1681 and 1714. I do not know if Giac and Don Cullurafi are brothers. They could even be the same person since there are no wives or dates mentioned in the census of Militello, San Piero Patti, Patti or Librizzi!
Perhaps we will know more someday, or perhaps we will not. I did not want these early ancestors "lost in history" because I did not know how to correctly place them.

[NI0780] Febronia's birth record is in the civil records of Librizzi, giving her parent's names. It states that Domenico, her father, is 47 when she is born.

[NI0783] Ugo's address in 1963 is listed as 9 Spring St., NY, NY on his application for SS or replacing a lost card. Information about this family comes from family records and SS death records.

[NI0790] Agata lists her parents' named on her application for social security number in April, 1964. Her address is then listed as 73 Summer Ave., Newark,NJ.

[NI0802] We know about Gaetano, his age and his parents and wife from his marriage record in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI0815] Biagio's profession is listed as a barber on his marriage record, and birth records of several children. His marriage record gives us the names of his parents and his age. On the birth record of his daughter, Rosa, in 1854, his name is spelled with only one f - Collorafi. His parents are named on his death certificate and his birthplace is given as Caramia. It further states that his father, Gaetano was a resident of Sant'Agata Di Militello. On his death certificate, Vincenzo Zingales, age 30, born in 1857, comes forth as a wittness. Biagio's son, Domenico marries into this Zingales Botta family, as he married Guiseppa Zingales Botta. His place of death, perhaps his home is given as 19 Via Eslamlio.

[NI0816] Domenico's profession is stated as a shoemaker on the birth record of his daughter, Maria Teressa.

Domenico and Giuseppa brought their family to 1882 Barnes Ave. Bronx, New York around 1900. My father, Domenico, his grandson, stated that his grandfather first came to the United States in the early 1880's, went back to Sant' Agata di Militello and then, two years latter, returned to the house that they had bought. We know that his daughter, Concetta was married in Sant' Agata Di Militello in 1896 and that she remained in Sicily.

Domenico is remembered as always having a cigar. He was a tall and handsome man and when asked what he did, he would reply that he "took care of his family" and that they took care of him. It is believed that his daughter, Giuseppa and her family lived with him in the Bronx, and owned the home when he died. Perhaps he bought it along with his daughter and her husband.

We find Domenico and his wife, Giuseppa, on the ship manifest for the Nord America that left Palermo and arrived in New York, on October 28, 1901. Domenico and Giuseppa brought their 3 year old grand daughter, child of Concetta, to the USA with them.

[NI0817] Giuseppa's last name, Zingales Botta, is sometimes spelled without the "s" in Zingales. This family has married into the Colloraffi family for several generations.

We see Giuseppa's name on the ship manifest for the Nord America, leaving Palermo and arriving in New York on October 28, 1901. Her and her husband brought their 3 year old grand daughter, Rosa, with them.

[NI0818] We know very little about Biagio at this time. We have his birth records from the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello. We also know, from the Ellis Island records, that he entered New York in 1905, at the age of 30. He seems to be burried in the same grave with his brother, Vincenzo. I also believe that he was a tailor, as was Vincenzo. In the business directory for the Bronx, in 1913, there is a "John Colloraffi" listed as a tailor at the home at 1882 Barnes Ave., which we know was the home of his parents, and his sister, Giuseppa (Jose) and her husband and many children. There is a picture of it in this record. I believe that a picture, send to me as a picture of Vincenzo, my grandfather, is really his brother, Biagio, and I have put it here.

[NI0820] We know of Maria Teresa from her birth record in the legal records of Sant' Agata Di Militello. We also see her name on the ship manifest for the Sempione, departing from Palermo and arriving in New York on May 11, 1900. She was single, 28 years old, and came with her brother, Vincenzo and sisters, Guiseppa and Maria. Her parents arrived a year latter.

[NI0821] We know of Maria from her birth record in the legal records of Sant' Agata Di Militello. We also see her name in the ship manifest for the ship Sempione, departing from Palermo and arriving in New York on May 11, 1900. She was 23 years old and came with her sisters, Guiseppa and Maria Teresa and her brother, Vincenzo. Her parents came to New York about a year latter.

[NI0822] We know of Cencetta & Salvatore from their marriage records in the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello, Sicilia. My father remembers his cousins, Rosalia, Angelo and Domenico Piscitello. We see that Rosalia goes back and forth from Sant' Agata Di Miliello several times, as we find her name in the Ellis Island records. On one return trip on the ship "Nord America" arriving in the port of New York on June 11, 1906, when Rosalia was then 8 years old, she comes from Sant' Agata Di Militello with Giuseppe and Carlo Colloraffi - ages 19 and 17 years. We suspect that these are Concetta's cousins. A number of Piscitello's from Sant' Agata Di Militello come with them: Marianna, age 12; Guiseppe, age 4; Carmela, age 15; and Antonino, age 10. At the present we do not know their relationship to Cencetta or Salvatore.

[NI0824] We know of Giuseppa through her birth record in the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello, Sicilia, Italia. We also see her name on the ship manifest of the Sempione, which sailed from Palermo and arrived in New York on May 11, 1900. Giuseppa's name is spelled wrong there are GUiseppa. She is 21 years old and single and comes with her brother, Vincenzo and two sisters, Maria Teresa and Maria.

[NI0827] Salvatore is the wittness to a death in Sant' Agata di Militello. His age is given in this civil record.

[NI0847] Vincenzo's oldest child is named Antonino Biagio. Because of this, I assume that Vincenzo is the son of Biagio and Maria Teressa. Biagio would be from the father, and Antonino from a brother who died as a child. Out of respect, the oldest son is often named for a family member who died, and this would be in keeping with that tradition. The birth record in Sant' Agata identifies this Vincenzo as the son of Biagio and Maria Teresa. However, my father thought that Vincenzo's wife's maiden name as Gogliano. He could have been wrong, or Rose may have died. We do know, that in the birth record of his brother, Giuseppe's youngest child, Carmela, a Gogliano comes forth as a wittness. This Gogliano is 33 years old. Vincenzo is listed as a tailor on his children's birth records. My father said that his Uncle Vincenzo lived in Erie, Penn., USA. I have great doubts that this is true, and suspect that he returned to Sant' Agata di Militello and may have been the Vincenzo Colloraffi, who served as mayor at the turn of the century. I have no evidence that any other part of this family, other than Domenico, son of Biagio, stayed in the USA.

[NI0871] Giuseppe's profession is listed as a painter on the birth record of his children in Patti, Sicily, Italy. His grand daughter, Lilian Collorafi, a teacher of English and French, who lives in Busto Arizio, Italy, wrote us in 1999, that Giuseppe and his family moved to Mahdue, Tunisia, with their children when her father, Gaetano was two years old. That would have been about the year 1894. There Giuseppe had a hardware store in the beautiful seaside town of Mahdue. His age at his wedding is listed on the wedding certificate to Febronia Amato. Febronia Amato is also the name of his mother. On his wedding certificage in the civil records of Patti, his profession is given as a fruit dealer, the same as his father in law.

[NI0872] Febronia's age is given as twenty on the birth record of her son, Giuseppe, who was born in January, 1890. Her parents names and professions and citizenship in Patti are listed on her wedding certificate, as is her age and that of her husband. Her profession is given as a weaver at the time of her marriage.

[NI0873] Giuseppe is remembered by his youngest daughter, Rita, as being a very honest man. He liked to smoke cigars.

[NI0875] Maria Febronia Collorafi married a widow with 4 children: Salvo, Laurent, Angele, Edouard and Jean. Together they had 6 more children.
Lilian Collorafi of Busto Arsizio tells us that "All of them moved to France when Tunisia got it's independence,

[NI0892] Anna's birth and death records are in the civil records of San Piero Patti, Sicily.

[NI0903] Rosario's profession is listed as a fruit dealer on his marriage certificate. The names of his parents are given, as is his age.

[NI0922] This information on MariaAntonia, including the age and profession of her father and her birth date are from the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello, Sicily.

[NI0925] Information about Rosario is from the civil records of Patti. His father is named as Giuseppe. His wife is Maria Pasita, age 16 and her father is listed as Vincenzo. , Rosario's age is given as 36 in June, 1884 when his daughter, Giovanna is born.
On his marriage certificate, his profession is listed as marina, or in the navy. His name is spelled Cullorafi on the marriage record, from the civil records of Patti. The names of his parents and their professions are listed on this record.

[NI0947] Rose's age is listed on the birth records of several children. It is interesting that a Biagio Cerrito is the mayor of Sant' Agata Di Militello around 1898 and that Rose's husband, seems to be the next mayor of the city. This family also marries into the Regalbutto family - related to the Colloraffi family through the Modica family.

[NI0953] Family legend is that Febronia's two sons were both lame. One son received an injury in the war. The family cannot remember if the only son was born lame. In this alblum section is a picture of one of the sons, found in a trunk, moved from Sousse Tunisia by Marie Collorafi. You can see the young man's cane. It is said that both brothers went to the United States, probably New York.

[NI0954] The information about this family comes from family records. The picture is of either Rosario or his brother, Giuseppe, both were said to be lame. The family believes that these sons came to New York.

[NI0955] Domenico died after World War II as a result of an illness that he contracted while a prisoner of war acording to his grandson, Tommaso Collorafi. This information comes to us from the family records.

[NI1004] We know of Francesco and his household from the census of Militello done in 1681. His age is only a guess, as is that of his father, Giac. No ages are given for him or any family members. A wife is not identified, but may be one of the members of his household, which I have listed as children. It is very possible that the Giac, identified in the census as part of the household is NOT a child, but his father, and that Pelligina may be either his child, mother, or wife.

[NI1005] We have the wedding record of Giuseppa from Librizzi. It gives her parents's names and their place of residence and birth and her place of birth - Stromboli, the volcanic island off the coast of Patti! Her father has died by the time of her marriage. Giuseppa's profession is given as a factory worker on her marriage certificate.

[NI1006] Maccleo is listed in the census of the Militello area in 1861, along with his household. As no ages or relationships are given, we do not know for sure if the names listed are children or other relatives. Giac is given as Maccleo's father. In the household we have Maccleo, Francesco and Mar. (probably Maria) and a Silver., which is probably a version of Salvatore.

[NI1015] The information about Concettina's death and birth dates are from family records.

[NI1016] The information about Basilio's birth and death dates are from family records.

[NI1017] birth records found in LDS file of records of San Piero Patti

[NI1027] Giuseppe's age is 24 when his daughter, Anna is born in Vallone Vina. The information about this family was provided through family records and the civil records of Librizzi. However, on his marriage record, his age is given as 27 in July of 1906. His parents' names are also given on this record. His profession is given as a "landowner" on his marriage record.

[NI1028] The information on Giuseppe comes to us from the social security death listing (SS #063-01-9837) and also from his nephew, Pietro S. Collorafi of New York. Giuseppe gives a different birth date than that on his birth record in Patti. He states that he was born July 11, 1886. He lists his father as Peter and his mother as Marie Denatale. His address in 1936 is given as 436 West 47th St., NY, NY. His employment is at Vincent's Barber Shop, 300 7th Ave., NY. He gives his name as Joseph, not Giuseppe. in Oreste's social security application, he gives us the names of his parents.

We also have some information about Giuseppe's trip to New York from the Ellis Island records. He is listed on the manifest for the ship, Manilla, which departed from Naples, Campania, Italy. If arrives in New York on April 6, 1900 when Giuseppe is 14 years old. He may be traveling with Gaetano Foti, age 26, also from Patti. Giuseppe may have stayed with his Aunt Caterine, sister of his father, Pietro, who came to New York the year before with Vincenza Marino - who may be her daughter or her niece, who eventually becomes Giuseppe's wife in New York.

[NI1030] Maria's name is given as the wife of Pietro on the birth records of her children in Patti, Sicily, Italy. On his application for social security, filled out on November 25, 1936, her son, Giuseppe (Joseph) gives her name as Marie Denatale. He gives his father's name as Peter Collorafi. We find her age on her marriage certificate in Patti and also the names of her parents.

[NI1034] Vincenza Marino comes from Patti with Caterine Collorafi, sister of Pietro, on the ship, The Archimede, and arrives in New York on October 9, 1899. Marino is the last name of Catherine's husband. Vincenza is then 17 years old. Giuseppe, her husband, is the son of Caterine's brother, Pietro.

[NI1037] This information on Pietro Collorafi is from the Social Security Death list. SS#
061-12-0127. When he applied for SS in October, 1938, his address was 339 West 26th St., New York City, NY. He worked at Lenti Brothers, 326 Bowery, NY.

[NI1038] The birth and death information on Oreste Collorafi comes from the social security death index. His cousin, Peter S. Collorafi, of New York provided us with the names of Oreste (known as Orest), his parents and siblings. Orest gives his parents names when he applies for social security on December 14, 1936. He lives at 436 West 47th St., NY, NY and is employed at Midtown Furniture Ex Inc. at 601 Ninth Ave., NYC. He states that he was born at 356 West 36th St., NYC on 5-7-16.

[NI1040] On the death benefit application for social security, her parents names are given as Mary and Frank Zombo. Amelia's address is listed as 49A Hastings Ave., Rutherford, N J, 07070.

[NI1041] I have placed Angela with this family for several reasons. Her birthplace is S.A., also she is married to Giuseppe Corrito. Michele is also married to a Corrito and it was common for brother and sisters to marry brothers and sister. All we know of Angela is from the birth record of her son, Calogera in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI1042] The dates of birth and death of Maria come to us from the SS listings. SS#058-30-7131.

[NI1060] Domenico's birth certificate for 1889 is found in San Piero Patti records. The information about Domenico's children is from family memory.

[NI1110] We have the names of Angela's parents on the marriage certificate in the civil records of San Piero Patti in 1903. Her father has died and her mother is listed as Maria Corcica, resident of San Piero Patti. Angelina's age is also given as 23 years old, as is her husbands. Her birth record is in the civil records of San Piero Patti. Her name is spelled Colluraffi on the index, with her father's name spelled as Culluraffi, Carmelo. However, we have a signature of Carmelo who spelled his name as Collorafi. One of Carmelo's descendants has told us that the name should have been spelled with 2 f's.

[NI1111] We have information about a Rossario Colloraffi, who emigrated to the USA, by way of Ellis Island, from San Piero Patti, at the age of 24 in 1907. I believe that this is the Rossario for several reasons, including the fact that on his birth record, his name is spelled with 2 f's.

[NI1115] Nunzia's death record is in the civil records of San Piero Patti. Her last name is spelled Culluraffi, which is the family spelling in the 1681 census of Librizzi.

[NI1117] We know that Carmelo's father's name was Salvatore. It is listed on his marriage registration, in the civil records of San Piero Patti. I have placed him with this Salvatore due to the place and dates. His name seems to be Carmelo Salvatore Collorafi,

[NI1118] Information about this family comes to us from the civil records of San Piero Patti, Sicily, Italy and also from the great-great nephew of Carmela Leonte, David J. Damico.

[NI1121] We read of Vincenzo in the death records of Sant' Agata Di Militello. This may be the same person as Vincenzo x Collorafi - of Salina, who we know of through verbal family records.

[NI1122] death record found in LDS #1802852-page is missing with death certificate. I assume she is child of Carmelo and Carmela since Carmela's mo. is named Felicia on wedding certificate in same LDS file of records of San Piero Patti.

[NI1123] birth and death records found in LDS library #1802852 & 1802763 records of San Piero Patti, as were the parents marriage certificate

[NI1124] birth cert. found in records of San Piero Patti, LDS library. His name is spelled in the old way of Collurafi. Sometimes this family's name is spelled Colluraffi.

[NI1127] Carmela's last name and that of her father is spelled in the "old way" on her birth record - Cullurafi". This is how the name was spelled in the census of Librizzi in 1681. However, her father spells it as Collorafi.

[NI1128]
The information about this family was provided by the civil records of San Piero Patti and Librizzi and also family records and rememberances.

We know a little bit about the life of Domenico and Anna from their great-grand daughter, Guiseppa (Josie) Collorafi Biviano from Australia. She is the daughter of Vincenzo, son of their son, Guiseppe. She tells us that Domenico provided for his large famiy by cultivating hazlenuts which he sold to a local exporter. They also grew chestnuts. The family owned a mill, "where the locals would take their grain to be ground into flour for a fee and a pound or two or flour. In those days," Josie wrote, "I suppose they had very little needs."
She continued, "I visited this farm area, which is now overgrown with bramble bushes and weeds. This land was left to Dad and his brothers and sisters. Other divisions of this land was left to my grandfather's brothers and sisters, but over the years, some have sold their share..."
Josie also told us about this family, "As you know it appears my grandfather, Guiseppe, was one of twelve children. As far as Dad can remember, these are the names and some accurate but not complete details...
Firstly, my Dad and his father were born in a town called Vallone Vina (translated it means valley of the vines.) San Piero Patti is between Vallone Vina and Librizzi...In Librizzi lived my grandfather's brothers, Michaelangelo, Tindaro and Carmelo. In Vallone Vina lived my grandfather Guiseppe, his sisters Fibronia and Sarina, his brothers Alberto, Michele, Pietro and Basilo. His sister, Guiseppina, lived in Palermo, and his sister, Carmela, dad can't remember.
Michaelangelo married Anna Mondello. Their children were Antonino and Domenico. Tindaro married Giuseppina Matelo. Fibronia married a Giovannino, children Angelina (married Antonino - Sabrina's son), Antonino, Leandro (married Sarina's daughter Anna) and Domenico. Alberto never married. Pietro married Angelina ( Collorafi) children Domenico, Carmelo, Micheleangelo, Anna. Basilio married a French woman called Erena. Dad thinks they had no children. They lived in France. Sarina married Giovannino Buzzanco, children Antonio, Anita, Domenico, Maria. Guiseppe (my grandfather) married Guiseppina Molletta, children Domenico, Anita, Rosina, Carmela, Vincenzino, Carmelo, Concettina, Basillo. Guiseppina married Guiseppe (a police officer in Palermo) children ?
Carmela nobody knows what?"
Domenico's age is provided through his birth record from the civil records of Librizzi. On his marriage record, his profession is given as a landowner. We know his age and his parents names from both his birth record and marriage record from the civil records of Librizzi. His mother is referred to as "Donna Giuseppa", which is a sign of respect usually given to nobility of some sort. On the birth records of his many children, his profession is listed as a farmer.

[NI1129] Descendants of Anna gave the spelling of her name as Pizzino, but it is spelled Pizino in the birth records of her many children. On the birth record of daughter, Maria Catena in 1887, Anna's profession is given as a filatrice, which means spinner. How this dear lady had time to spin, with so many children, is difficult to imagine. D. H. Lawrence provides a discription of a woman spinner of Sicily, which I have put in this Collorafi family history. Her birthplace is given by a grandson, Mario Collorafi, son of Anna's child Tindaro.

[NI1141] Carmelo Colloraffi is 23 years old in 1838 when he serves as a wittness to the birth of Antonino, son of Serafina Mannio and Grazicito Fazio. I placed him here because the family name is in keeping with this branch of the Collorafi family, as is his age and the place of his citizenship. His profession is listed as a barber.

[NI1164] Maria Teresa's profession is listed as a seamstress on the birth records of several of her many children. Her marriage record gives us the names of her parents and her age. She sometimes is known as Teresa, for example, on the birth record of her daughter Rosa in 1854. She has died before her husband, sometime before 1887, as she is listed as "fu" before her name on his death record.

[NI1166] The information for this family comes from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI1168] Rosalia's birth records was found in the civil records of S.A. di M, giving her parents' names.

[NI1170] The marriage certificate for Marianna Colloraffi and Salvatore Lo Re has her age as 16 years old. Her husband Salvatore is 26 years old. He is a miner. Her father is Biagio and her mother is Maria Teressa. Maria is a seamstress. It seems that Marrianna married again 7 years latter. This husband's mother is Maria Collura - another link of the Colloraffis and Collura family. Her death certificate, giving her age as 39, Her profession is given as a seamstress. Her fathter's profession is listed as a barber and her mother's as a seamstress.

[NI1172] Rosa's birth record is found in the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello giving her parent's names and her date of birth. However, on her marriage record, her age is recorded as 30 at the time (1885).

[NI1175] Maria Ignacia Scafidi's age is stated in her daughter's birth certificate from Sant' Agata Di Militello. Her father is also mentioned is a birth certificate of one of her children. In the birth certificate of her son, Nunzio, we learn that her husband, Giuseppe, is a barber.

[NI1176] Information on Ellis Island shows that Maria came to the USA by way of Ellis Island in 1905, when she was 28 years old. She may have been married at the time since Italian women were recorded in ships' manifests, at the time, by their legal name - which is their surname. Her brothers Giuseppe and Carlo came through Ellis Island in 1906, the next year.

[NI1177] The handwriting on the marriage record for Teresa is nearly unreadable. I am guessing at the name of her husband and it looks as if she were married outside of Sant' Agata because the "Annotiazione per Matrimonio" is on a seperate piece of paper in the clerk's records, but I cannot read where it was sent from.

[NI1179] From information in Ellis Island files, it seems that Carlo and his brother Giuseppe went to the USA by way of Ellis Island in 1906. He was 19 years old.

[NI1180] Information from Ellis Island shows us that Giuseppe went to the United States, stopping at Ellis Island in 1906 at the age of 17. It looks as if Carol came with him.

[NI1183] On her birth record, a Gogliano comes forth as a wittness. He is 33 years old. My father thought that his Uncle Vincenzo was married to a Gogliano.

[NI1192] On the death certificate on his son Gaetano, in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello, Biagio's profession is listed as a farmer, "bracciale". On this death certificate, it also states that Biagio lived in S.A. di Militello. Both he and his wife, Vincenza are dead by 1838.

[NI1193] We know of Vincenza as her name is listed on the death record of her husband in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI1196] The children given with X as part of their middle name may or may not be this Gaetano Colloraffi's children. From family oral tradition we know that these children had a father whose name was Gaetano.

[NI1198] Pietro is listed as a tailor on legal records in Sant' Agata Di Militello.
His wife, Beneditta is listed as a spinner. We find the death record or Pietro in the civil records of Sant' Agata. It states that he was born in Librizzi. What is so important about this Pietro Colloraffi is that he is one of the links of the Sant' Agata di Militello - Librizzi - San Piero Patti and Patti families. When he comes to Sant' Agata di Militello from Librizzi, he leaves sons in San Piero Patti. Rossario goes to Patti and takes up the profession of fruit seller with the other Collorafi families there. Family legend says that Domenico Collorafi from Vallone Vina had a brother Pietro who went to Sant' Agata di Militello. However, it is this Pietro who went there. His profession is a tailor. Gateno's profession is a barber. On his son, Rossario's death record, Pietro is listed as a farmer.

NOTE: I have suspect that this Pietro is the same person as Pietro X, who may have been married twice and lived in different communities. Please see note under Pietro X.

[NI1199] When Michelo's daughter, Marianna is married on October 23, 1826, Michelo is listed as having died, "fu".

[NI1200] Beneditta is listed as a spinner. Her husband is listed as a tailor in the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello.

[NI1201] We find the information about Rosalia, including her children, husband, and age in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. Her profession is listed as a weaver on her daughter Benedetta's marriage record.

[NI1202] The information about Giuseppe is from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. His profession is listed as a butcher on the marriage record of his daughter, Teresa.

[NI1207] We have the birth certificate of Benedetta's son, Rosario, no other proof than the name, Benedetta, that she is the son of Pietro and Benedetta. Rosario is born nella villa Basiio.

[NI1210] We assume that Rosa is the sister of Biagio since he was a wittness to the birth of her daughter Teresa, in Sant' Agata in 1828. We know of her from the birth record of Rosa found in the civil records of Santa Agata di Militello.

[NI1214] Vincenza is listed as 26 years old when her son Biagio is born in 1835. On her daughter, Maria's wedding record, it states her profession as "fabbricante" - a manufacturer.

[NI1215] On MariaAnna's marriage record, it states that she is 15 years old. Her father, Michelo has died. On Marianna's death record, her name is spelled the way that the surname was spelled in early Librizzi records, except with the extra f. 2 f's are the way that our family spells the name in Sant' Agata di Militello. Her name is thus spelled, Marianna Culluraffi. The Colloraffi family again marries into the Piscitello family in the next generation. Domenico & Giuseppa Zingales Botta's daughter marries a Piscitello and remains in Sant' Agata di Militello, as the rest of the family moves to the Bronx, New York.

[NI1216] His death certificate states that he lived at 53 Via Siffii, Sant' Agata when he died. Michelo's profession is listed as a clerk in the Navy on his son, Giuseppe's birth record.

[NI1217] On the death certificate of his son, Antonino, July 5, 1828; Angelo is listed as a shoemaker. It also states that he was born in Caronia. This is an area that there is some relationship with the Colloraffi Family of Sant' Agata Di Militello. On the birth record of his daughter, Maria Antonia in 1839, his age is given as 37 years old and his profession is a cobbler.

This Piscitello family again marries into the Colloraffi family, with Domenico (son of Biagio, son of Gaeteno, son of Biagio) and Giuseppa Zingales Botta Colloraffis daughter, Concetta marries Salvatore Piscitello in S.A....Their family information is in their file.

[NI1218] It is very likely that this Antonino Piscitello of Sant' Agata Di Militello is the ancestor of Salvatore Piscitello, who married Concetta Colloraffi in Sant' Agata Di Militello. She is the daughter of Domenico Colloraffi, son of Biagio, son of Gaetano Colloraffi

[NI1219] Ignazio is listed as a shoemaker on the birth certificate of his son, Biagio in 1835. It states that he is 36 years old. On his daughter Maria's marriage record, his profession is given as a shoe maker.

[NI1221] The death certificate of Michelo Colloraffi lists Corrito Felippo as his wife and he is a widower.

[NI1225] The information about the death of Rossario is on the mortality listing for Sant' Agata for 1834. His parents names are listed. His wife's name is also listed.

[NI1228] Beneditto Colloraffi is a very important link to the Colloraffi/Collorafi families. On his death certificate it states that he is a fruit seller and is born, worked in and died in Patti. He may have been married twice with his wife, at the time of his death being Rosa Calera. His name is definitely spelled with 2 f's. The profession of fruit seller is that of the majority of Collorafis in Patti.

[NI1229] Maria's age is listed on the birth certificate of Benedetta Colloura. Her grandfather, Gaeteno signs the birth record! This further links Pietro to Gaeteno.

[NI1230] All of the information for this family is from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. Both Giuseppe and his wife are listed as shoemakers on the records.

[NI1234] The marriage record of Antonino Colloraffi, son of Biagio and Maria Ignazi is an important link from the Colloraffis of Sant' Agata Di Militello to the Collorafis in Patti. Giuseppe Collorafi also married into the Amato family. His mother in law is Teresa Amato. So, perhaps, there was communication between these two branches of the family in the 1870's and beyond. We see the age of Antonino and his father, Biagio, on his marriage certificate. He also signs his name. We have Antonino's brith certificate from the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello.

[NI1235] This is a very interesting name. We rarely have two surnames...Pietro Amato Colloraffi.

[NI1244] Rosalia is the oldest daughter of Concetta. The ship manifest for the Nord America indicates that she came to the USA with her grandparents, Domenico and Giuseppa, when she was three years old and arrived in New York, from Palermo, Sicily, Italy on October 18, 1901. She lived in the Bronx, New York with her grandparents - Domenico and Giuseppa at 1882 Barnes Ave. Later, she lived with her Uncle Vincenzo. Rosalia was well educated and taught languages at Hunter University in New York. This is an example of a woman leaving Sicily, and rising above the status that would have been offered her had she remained with her parents. She often went back to Sant' Agata to visit her parents and 10 or 11 siblings. She brought two brothers, Domenico (a diamond cutter) and Angelo (a shoemaker) to New York. Mildred Colloraffi, wife of her cousin, Domenico, said that she married a man who was in real estate and became quite wealthy.

My father, Domenico, remembers Rose fondly, and was always proud of her achievements in the USA and interested in her visits back to Sicily. He said that Rose had cousins who lived in Switzerland, and this was a link back to the Alps story that the Colloraffi family had come from the Alps. Biscitello is an unusual name in Sant' Agata di Militello, and it is possible that cousins on her father's side lived in the Alps. However, my guess is that, when my dad was small, he saw a picture of a Sicilian cousin in the mountains of Sicily.

[NI1248] I am not sure that Vincenzo belongs with this set of parents. We have information about his death, which states his age. I placed him here because of the continuation of the Vincenzo name in this family, and the date he was born. This may or may not be where he belongs. The information on this family comes to us from Guiseppa (Josie) Collorafi Biviano of Australia, who received it from Vincenzino (Enzio) Collorafi of Australia, great grandson of Gaeteno. (April, 1999) It is believed that this Gaeteno is the son of Biagio. The x means that the relationship is not proven. When Vincenzino's daughter goes to the USA, the spelling of her name is with 2 f's, as is the custom with Biagio's children. However, his son, Salvatore's name is recorded with only one f in the Ellis Island records.

[NI1249] I have placed Salvatore as the brother of Biagio because of the place and time at which he was born. The letter x. means speculation. We know that the name Salvatore is part of this branch of the family and that Biagio named one of his children, Salvatore. Salvatore's name is listed as the father of Carmelo on his marriage registration. We know of Giuseppe from the marriage record of his daughter, Rosalia. This also gives us the name of his wife. They are both dead by 1852 when Rosalia marries.

[NI1257] Information about Salvatore and his wife are from family records. However, we do have a record of Salvatore in the Ellis Island records, as having come to the USA from the town of Santa Marina, Salina, Italy in 1920 at the age of 25. The record also shows a child, Anna, age 1 and a son Angelo age 2, which we asume are his children.

[NI1260] I believe that we have the record for Nicollina's emigration to the USA in the records of Ellis Island. They record a Filomenia, age 46, from Salina, Sicily arriving in Ellis Island in 1900. Either the name is transcribed wrong, or Nicollina is a nickname for the name Filomenia. Information about Nicollina being a child of these parents is from family records.

[NI1282] As of April, 1999, lives in Messina with her mother.

[NI1283] In the birth certificate of his son, Salvadore, Savadore Sr. is listed as being a miller. We know that this part of the Collorafi family had a mill in Valle Vallone, between San Piero Patti and Librizzi. This was run by Domenico and Anna P. Collorafi.

[NI1288] I placed Antonino with Michelo and Grazia because of his daughter's name. This may or may not be the correct parents.

[NI1293] The death certificate for Antonino, in the civil records of Patti, is very difficult to read. It gives his parents names. I am not sure how old he was, perhaps a few days.

[NI1294] Antonino is certainly the brother of Rosario due to his age, place, and the names of his chldren. We learn about him in the civil records of Patti, Sicily, Italy. His oldest son is named Giuseppe. . Antonino's age is given as 24 in 1879 when his son Giuseppe is born in Patti.

[NI1295] Maria is listed as a spinner on the birth record of her daughter Maria Febronia in 1884 in Patti.

Many of the Collorafi women in Patti were spinners. The writer, D. H. Lawrence loved Sicily and lived in Taromina for many years. He tells us about the profession of spinning in his book " On the Lago Di Garda", in the chapter titled The Spinner and the Monks. He describes a woman spinning, "Turning round, on the other side of the terrace, under a caper-bush that hung like a blood-stain from the grey wall above her, stood a little grey woman whose fingers were busy...Her head was tied in a dark-red kerchief, but pieces of hair, like dirty snow, quite short, stuck out over her ears. And she was spinning...She was spinning spontaneously, like a little wind. Under her arm she held a distaff of dark, ripe wood, just a straight stick with a clutch at the end, like a grasp of brown fingers full of a fluff of blackish, rusty fleece, held up near her shoulder. And her fingers were plucking spontaneously at the strands of wood drawn down from it. And hanging near her feet, spinning round upon a black tread, spinning busily, like a thing in a gay wind, was her shuttle, her bobbin wound fat with the coarse, blackish worsted she was making. All the time, like motion without thought, her fingers teased out the fleece, drawing it down to a fairly uniform thickness: brown, old, natural fingers that worked as in a sleep, the thumb having a long grey nail: and from moment to moment there was a quick, downward rub, between thumb and forefinger, of the thread that hung in front of her apron, the heavy bobbin spun more briskly, and she felt again at the fleece as she drew it down, and she gave a twist to the thread that issued, and the bobbin spun swiftly".

[NI1297] This family has two daughters named Maria Febronia Colorafi. One is born in 1877 and one is born in 1884 in Patti, Sicily, Italy.

[NI1299] On his marriage record in the civil records of Patti, Rosario's residence in 1924 is listed as Shadefera, St. Martino, as is that of his wife and her parents. This is difficult to read due to the handwriting.

[NI1305] Rosario and Maria had two sons named Salvatore. The first died as a two year old. We found the death certificate in the civil records of Patti, Sicily.

[NI1581] We know about Rosalia and her husband from the birth record of her son, Giuseppe. It gives her age and says that she lives in Militello. This is from the civil records of S.A...I have placed her with this parents because of her husband's surname. This Vigneri family latter marries into this branch, as does the Presti family. Her profession is listed as a seamstress on the marriage record of her daughter, Teresa.

[NI1631] On the birth certificate of her son, Giuseppe, we find Maria's name, that of her father, Vincenzo, and her age of 16. Both of her parents have died when she is married in 1877. For the most part, when a Sicilian girl is married before she is 20 years of age, either one or both of her parents have died. On the death record of her daughter, Giovannina in 1903, we know that Maria has died. On her wedding certificate, her profession is listed as filatrice or weaver.

[NI2229] On her marriage record in Patti, we find Maria's age and the names of her parents.

[NI2234] Through the marriage record of Giochino Collorafi;s daughter, Maria Antonina Collorafi, we are able to trace the son of Antonino Colloraffi (son of Biagio Colloraffi...)and his wife Anna Maria Pieroi. Here is an example of a man named Colloraffi (Antonino) changing the name of Collorafi - to conform to the spelling of the name in Patti.

[NI2255] This information about Giuseppe, his parents and wife are from the civil records of Patti, where his marriage record is on file.

[NI2278] Giuseppe's age is given on the marriage record of his daughter, Maria Caterina. On his son, Rosario's marriage record, in the civil records of Patti. His professsion is given as a pastry maker.

[NI2279] Although we find another Febronia Amato, who marries her son, Giuseppe, Rosario's mother is definitely named Febronia Amato on his wedding certificate. On her son, Antonio's wedding record, her profession is given as a spinner.

[NI2280] I doubt that there is a Pietro, son of Giuseppe, brother of Domenico. I found no evidence of him in the civil records of Librizzi or San Piero Patti. He is here as part of a family oral tration that Domenico had a brother named Pietro and one named Pippino that went to live in Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicily.

[NI2283] Maria Caterina seems to be the same "Caterina" Collorafi from Patti, whose records in Ellis Island, show that she came to the USA at the age of 50 in 1899. The records say that she came on the ship, The Archimede, sailng from Genova, and arriving in New York on October 9, 1899. Her name is listed as "Caterine" and she seems to be traveling with a relative of her husband, perhaps a niece, Vincenza Marino, age 17 and single - also from Patti. However, this could also be a daughter. This Vincenza eventially married Giuseppe Collorafi, son of Caterine's brother, Pietro. We have a record of Giuseppe coming to New York from Patti in the year 1900. Listed below Caterine and Vincenza are several other from Patti - Antonino Arico, age 9; Maria Arico, age 7; Giovanni Arico, age 5. There may or may not be any relationship.

[NI2284] We have the marriage record of Luigi and Maria Caterina in the civil records of Patti.

[NI2287] Giuseppe's age, his parents and their place of birth is in his marriage record in the civil records of Patti. He is a fruit seller, as was his father and his father in law, Nunzio.

[NI2288] Information about Febronia, her husband, their parents, ages, and professions is from the civil records of Patti. Like her mother, Febronia is a weaver.

[NI2289] Some records show that Vincenzo was born in 1833. On his death certificate in 1901, it sates that he was 74 years old.

[NI2290] In her daughter's wedding certificate, Flippa's profession is listed as a spinner.

[NI2297] Concetta Sarina's name is spelled Cullorafi on her birth certificate. We find, in Patti, that this name is often spelled Cullorafi, especially in early records.

[NI2299] Grandfather Vincenzo is present to bring the bambino named after him to the mayor.

[NI2303] On Rosario's death certificate, his profession is given as a merchant. Antonino Collorafi is a wittness, 38 years old. I believe that he is the son. The names of Rosario's parents and their places of birth are also given. On his son, Nunzio's death certificate, it states that Rosario was born in Polermo. My GUESS is that he was born in the area of Librizzi/San Piero Patt. On his son, Francesco's death certificate, it states that he was born in Patti. He is dead by 1884 and so is his wife, as stated on Francesco's death certificate.

[NI2305] We see Caterina's name on the death record of her son, Francesco and also on her children's birth records in the civil records of Patti. She is listed as a spinner.

[NI2308] On Pietro's death certificate, his brother, Rosario comes forward as a wittness.

[NI2311] I believe that this is the family that Pietro belongs to, even though, on his death certificate, his mother's last name is given as Gambino. On his son, Antonino's death record, in the civil records of Patti, his profession is given as a spinner.

[NI2312] I am guessing at the spelling of the name of the wife of Pietro. The handwriting on the death certificate is very difficult to read. The names of his parents are listed. His name and that of his wife, are on the marriage certificate of his son, Rosario. On the death record of her son, Antonino, her profession is given as a spinner.

[NI2314] On his son, Rosario's death certificate, Giuseppe's profession is listed as a merchant. I have attached Giuseppe to this parent because of the clue given on his grandson, Nunzio's death certificate, that his father, Rosario, was not born in Patti. There was some interchange and relationship between the Collorafi's in Patti and those in the Librizzi/San Piero Patti area. This is reflected in surnames of spouses as well as tracing several of the early Collorafis and Colloraffis back to this area. On his son Nunzio's death record, Giuseppe has died by 1839.

[NI2323] On his death certificate, Nunzio's profession is given as a fruit dealer. It states that Rosario, his father, was from Polermo, and was a fruit dealer. The certificate is written in a narrative form and the information was given to the clerk of Patti from Tunisia. My guess is that Nunzio was younger than 90 and may have been born closer to 1828. On his daughter' marriage certificate it states that he is age 51, and would have been born in 1840. His profession is listed as a fruit seller on his daughter's marriage certificate. On another daughter, Anna's wedding certificate in 1885, he is listed as being 43 years old and a fruit seller.

[NI2324] Rose's last name is given as Crifo on her daughter Anna's wedding certificate. She is listed as a weaver by profession. We also see her name as Crifo on Febronia's marriage record in the civil records of Patti.

[NI2325] On his daughter, Antonina's death record, his profession is given as a fruit seller. This is also mentioned on the death record of his daughter, Rosa. His name is given on Rosa's birth record for her son born in 1866. Vincenzo has died by then. These records are part of the civil records of Patti.

[NI2326] In her daughter, Rosa's death certificate it states that Febronia was a spinner.

[NI2330] His profession is listed as a barber on his marriage certificate. This is a very unusual name...I don't know how or why his middle name is Colloraffi, as it is listed on his marriage record in Patti.

[NI2334] On his marriage certificate, it lists Giuseppe as being a sailor, or working on ships.

[NI2342] Rosalia's age, birthplace and the name of her parents are given on her wedding certificate. Her profession, at the time, was a spinner.

[NI2351] Caterina's profession is listed as a spinner on her marriage certificate which also lists her parents' names and her age.

[NI2355] On her wedding certificate, Antonina's profession is given as a spinner. Her age and her parent's names are also given.

[NI2360] I believe that this is the spelling of Rosa's surname and would be the same as the husband of Giuseppa Colloraffi, Beneditto's sister's husband. On the record the name seems to be mis spelled as Colera. This is another example of a surname being written the way that it is pronounced.

[NI2363] We have information about Rosa's birth day through the birth record of her son in 1866. She was a spinner, age 39, when her child is born. Her father, Vincenzo, has died. This information is from the civil records of Patti.

[NI2364] I am not sure of the spelling of this last name. It is very difficult to read on Rosa's death certificate. It may be Noto.

[NI2365] There is really no family member by this name, at this time. Please see notes for her "husband" as to the research that has gone on so far.

[NI2367] Rosario's profession is given as a sailor on his marriage record. It also states that he was born in Cefalu and now resides in Sant' Agata (in 1886). His father, Vincenzo, lives in S. Agata and his mother, whose surname is difficult to read and may not be correct in my listing of it, is dead and was a resident of Cefalu.

[NI2374] Teresa may be the same person as "woman x" Collorafi, who is remembered by a distant relative.

[NI2375] We learn about Nunzio from a death certificate in Sant' Agata Di Militello. I believe that the date on this certificate is wrong by about 10 years.

[NI2376] When Maria Teresa is married in 1898, her mother's name is given as Giuseppa Amato and she has died. Maria's age is given and she is listed as a seamstress.

[NI2380] We learn about Carmelo from the death certificate of his son, Biagio Colloraffi, in Sant' Agata Di Militello in 1842. I placed him here because of the name. This may or may not be the correct placement, but, I believe, that Carmelo, if the son of Biagio, would have named his son after his father.

[NI2458] Information about Angelina and her family are provided through family records.

[NI2473] The information about Carmela and her husband come to us from Natala Collorafi.

[NI2586] Antonino and his wife, Anna are found in the census of Librizzi in 1714. His age is given as 40 years old. He is taxed on both land and a house.

[NI2587] We find the death certificate for Vincenzo in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. His parents names, his age, and the date of his death is given.

[NI2589] Domenico and Agatha are the parents given for Francello Colloraffi in the census of Librizzi in 1714. Francello names two of his children for them. I am guessing at the age of Domenico and also his relationship to Antonio.

[NI2591] The names of Francello's parents are given in the census of Librizzi in 1714. His name is a guess based on the ages of his children. His birthplace is given as Librizzi.

[NI2593] Angelo's age and father is listed in the census of Librizzi in 1714. No wife is mentioned for his father.

[NI2594] Agatha is listed in this household, as a daughter, in the census of Librizzi in 1714.

[NI2595] Domenico is listed as a child in this household in the census of Librizzi in 1714. It is possible that he had an older brother, Domenico, who has died, and he is named in his place. There is no mother mentioned.

[NI2598] We find the names of Placio's parents on his census record in Librizzi in 1681. The name is entered as "Don". I am guessing his birth date based on the ages given for his two sons. We see that both Placido and Rosario, in the census of Librizzi in 1681 have Don and Elizabetta Culluraffi as their parents - no ages are given for them, nor a first name for "Don" or a surname for Elizabetta. This Don, could even be, in fact, "Giac". Don is a title of nobility that carries on in this family for many generations. Donna is also a title given to some of our early female ancestors.

[NI2600] We read about Placido and his age, with his parents identified in the census of Librizzi for 1681.

[NI2601] We read of Franco, with his age given, in the census of Librizzi for 1681. His father's name is also given. Franco and Placido are on a seperate census form from the rest of the family. Perhaps they live in another house or their age determines that they are taxed seperately.

[NI2602] We know about Giuseppe and his age and parents from the census of Librizzi for 1681. His name is given as GIU, son, which, I believe stands for Giuseppe. Names were often abreviated in the census.

[NI2603] Antonino is living with his parents and his age is given in the census of Librizzi for 1681.

[NI2604] We read Giovaini and his parents names, and her age in the census of Librizzi in 1681.

[NI2605] We find the information about Rosario, his wife, children, age and parents in the civil records of Librizzi from 1681.

[NI2607] We read of Michele and his brother, Angelo, and learn his age and that of his father from the census of Librizzi in 1681. This is probably the same Michele that provides evidence for various people in the census of Librizzi in 1714.
For example, he verifies the census information of Anna Gianata, mother of Placido and Theresa in the census of 1714.

[NI2608] This is probably the Angelo, who is mentioned in the census of Librizzi in 1714. The census page is very, very faded. Some information can be read on another part of the report, including his childrens' names and son's age. He has a daughter named Rosa, therefore, I placed Angelo with this family, as his daughter would be named for Angelo's mother.

[NI2616] Maria's birth record is found in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2617] We find Rosario's birth record with his parents names in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2618] We fiind Vincenzo's birth records, with his parents names given in the civil records of S.A. di M.

[NI2619] We find Salvatore Cullurafi in the census of Librizzi for 1714. His father is given as Ros. (Rosario). He is 60 years old. His wife's name is very difficult to read. I am guessing that it is Rosa. The "S" page of the census is missing, so Salvatore was nearly missed. His name is spelled with the Cullurafi, as was the name in the 1681 census. His son's age cannot be read at this time. No age is given for his daughter.

[NI2620] We read of Antonino in the census of Librizzi from 1714 and learn the name of his father and grandfather.

[NI2621] We know that Anna Maria is the daughter of Salvatore from the census of Librizzi of 1714.

[NI2622] I am not sure that Clemente is the son of this father. We find the information about his household in the census of Librizzi for 1714. He names a daughter, Rosalia, and that is the reason that I placed him here. Michele Colloraffi signs the census record for Clemente. Also, Clemente's name is listed as D. Clemente Colloraffi in the census index. This means that he is referred to as Don Clemente, which signifies nobility.

[NI2624] Antonio's age, parents and these siblings are listed in the census of Librizzi of 1714.

[NI2625] Giuseppe's parents, siblings and age are in the Librizzi census of 1714.

[NI2626] Rosalia is listed with these parents and brothers in the census of Librizzi for 1714. No age is given for her.

[NI2629] Maria's age and her parent's names and residence are given on her marriage record from the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2631] Giuseppe's birth date and information are from the civil records of Librizzi. He is born the same year as his brother Alberto - 8 months apart!

[NI2635] Carmelo's birth record is from the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2653] Giuseppe's death record states that he lived for 8 minutes. A sad beginning to a marriage.

[NI2654] Giuseppe's profession is given as a farmer in the birth record of his son, Giuseppe. His age is given there as 32. However, on the birth record of Domenico, his age is given as 30. We also have his age on his marriage record, which also lists his parents and profession.

[NI2655] Giuseppa's age is given as 30 on the birth record of her son, Giuseppe. The title, Donna, is given in many of the records where she is mentioned, such as her son, Domenico's marriage record in the civil records of Librizzi. Domenico was married in Sant' Angelo, where his wife lived, but the marriage is also recorded in Domenico's town of Librizzi. Her residence is given as Librizzi in this record. On the birth record of her son, Domenico, her age is given as 32...so there is some difference in her possible birth date. Her last name is very difficult to read on all of the legal records. This is my best guess.

[NI2658] Michele's birth record is in the civil records of Librizzi, stating his birth dates and parents. His mother is "Donna" Giuseppa.

[NI2659] Biscilio's profession is given as a landowner on the marriage record of his son, Giuseppe. His death record is in the civil records of Librizzi. It gives his age, place of birth and parents' names. On his death certificates it states that he was a farmer. His wife's name is also given. His profession is given as a farm hand on the death record of his daughter, Vincenzia. His age is also given on the birth record of his son, Giuseppe. We also read about Biscilio on the death record of Maestro Musica, who dies in Vallone Vina on October 18, 1820. Biscilio is a wittness. He is described as 36 years old, born in 1774. This gives him a different age than on his son's marriage record.

[NI2660] .The handwriting is difficult to read. Her profession is given as a filatrice or spinner on her son Giuseppe's marriage record & that of her son, Biagio. Her name is clearly written on the death record of her daughter Vincenzia in the civil records of Librizzi. Her profession is given as that of a farmer on Vincenzia's death record. We find Carmela's age on her son, Giuseppe's birth record. She is listed as "fu", dead, in the death certificate of her daughter, Vincenzia. Her last name is seems to be spelled as Colora. However, in order to help to identify her family, I have added the spelling Collura. There were quite a few Colluras who married into our family in the late 1700's and early 1800's... I know believe that the Colloraffi Famiglia is a branch of the Collura family that ruled the San Piero Patti area in the early 1700's.

[NI2664] We learn of Caterina's age, her parents and birth place in her marriage record in Librizzi Civil Records.

[NI2674] We learn about Vincenzia through her death record in Librizzi. It gives her parents names, her age at death. Her mother's name is given as Carmela Celona, not Colora...This may be her name, as the handwriting on this document is better than on the other documents. It states that she is a farm hand and so are her parents. The word contadino can also mean peasant.

[NI2675] The Musione name is on the death record of Vincenza with Pietro and Biscilio mentioned as wittnesses. This may be her husband's name and her sons. Pietro is listed as working in a factory and Biscilio as a farmer.

[NI2678] On Francisia's death record, in the civil records of Librizzi, her age, her husband and parents' names are given. She dies two days after giving birth to a daughter, Carmela. I am guessing at the spelling of her husband's surname. The handwriting is very poor on the two records that I have seen.

[NI2680] We have Carmela's birth record in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2683] I strongly suspect that this Pietro X and the Pietro "link" , who died in Sant' Agata di Militello in 1830 are the same person, who has married twice, having a family, in Librizzi by Carmela Gumina and more children, by perhaps a 2nd wife, Beneditta Tassori. However, records and references are in different communities. It is also possible that there are two Pietro's, born at about the same time.

[NI2684] We know the names of Giuseppe's parents from his death certificate in the civil records of Librizzi. He is a farmer. His father, Pietro, is mentioned as a farmer. Pietro dies in Sant' Agata di Militello. Giuseppe's brother, Santo, is born in Sant' Agata di M. in 1800, so it seems that the family may have moved there.

[NI2685] We found out this information about Santo from his marriage record in the civil records of Librizzi. It gives his age, parents names and birth place. Santo has died by the time that his grandson, Francesco is born in 1870.

[NI2686] We see Michelo's names on the death index for Librizzi in 1820, but the record is missing. On this page it lists his parents names, citizenship and death date.

[NI2687] We find the information about Rosa's birth place, age, and parents on her wedding record in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2690] I placed Antonino with these parents because of his birth year, place, and his daughter's name, Carmela. He also has a son, Giuseppe. We know about him and his wife through civil records found in Librizzi. He is listed as a farmer, living in Vallone di Vina on the birth record of his son, Giuseppe.

[NI2692] We know of Carmela through her death record in the records of Librizzi. Stefano Amato, age 28, is a wittness. She dies at the home of Gaetano in Vallone della Vina. Her father's profession is given as a farmer. Her mother is referred to as Donna Caterina Gugliotta - a sign of nobility.

[NI2693] This information about Giuseppe is from the civil records of Librizzi. This is an interesting famiy since Pietro, the grandfather dies in Sant' Agata di Militello. Pietro was born in Librizzi. Some of his children live in Librizzi as farmers. Pietro is a farmer in S.A. di M. On his marriage record, Giuseppe is a farmer. His wife is a spinner.

[NI2694] We know about Maria through her marriage record in the files of Librizzi. She is a spinner.

[NI2697] Both the handwriting and ink are poor in the marriage record of Carmelo. My best guess is that it says that his father is named Rosario and is dead. His mother's name is written and unreadable, as is their places of residence. This requires more research, if possible. I have guessed that he should be placed with these parents due to his age and the names in this family.

[NI2703] We learn about Pietro and his father, Rosario, through his death certificate in the civil records of Patti. Antonio Pizzo, age 45, is a wittness of his death. He is a fruit seller in Patti. Both of his parents are dead.

[NI2704] We see this name on the death record of son, Pietro, in the civil records of Patti. She is a spinner.

[NI2705] This is a guess at the spelling of Febronia's last name. She is listed on the death record of her husband in Patti.

[NI2711] I am not sure about the first two letters in this surname. It is very hard to read.

[NI2712] We know about Maria, her parent's names, her age, her husband, his parents, etc. from her marriage record in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. Her profession is given as a fabbricante or manufacturer - the same as her mothers.
Maria, is only 17 when she married. This is one of the youngest ages for marriage that we have seen. Perhaps, because she was employed, she could add to her dowry.

[NI2713] We know of Stefano from his marriage record from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. This family marries into the Colloraffi family of Sant' Agata again when my g-grandmother, Giuseppa Zingales Botta marries Domenico Colloraffi, the son of Biagio and Maria Teresa.

[NI2716] We know about Giuseppe, his parents, their ages and his wife through the marriage record in the civil records of Librizzi! I am guessing that this Rosario is his son. I cannot read the name of his birthplace. It is in the district of Patti, Messina. On his marriage record it states that he is a hunter and a fieldhand. It also states that his father, Rosario, was a farmer. Rosario must be dead by 1820 as there is no age listed for him.

[NI2717] We know of Carmela, her age and her parents and birth place from the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2718] We learn about Rosario and his wife from the marriage record of his son, Giuseppe, in the civil records of Librizzi. I have attached Rosario Santo to this parent because of the location and name of his son. On Giuseppe's marriage record, Santo Rosario, as he is called, is listed as a farmer.

[NI2719] Nattalina's name and age are given on the marriage record of her son, Giuseppe, in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2723] We know of Teresa through her marriage record filed in Sant' Agata di Militello. It gives us her age, her profession of spinner, her parents ages and professions and her marriage date, name of husband and his parents.

[NI2724] This information is from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello on Giuseppe's wedding record.

[NI2727] We learn about Pito, which is probably the nickname for Pietro from the civil records of Librizzi, when his son, Francesco is born. We learn his age and the names of his parents.

[NI2731] We know of Rosalia, her parents and her husband and age from her marriage record in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI2734] I am not sure of the spelling of this surname. The marriage record is in the civil records of Patti, with his parents names and his age.

[NI2743] We know of Pio from his birth record in the files of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI2744] We know of Benedetta and her age from her marriage record in the files of Sant' Agata di Millitelo. Her father has died by 1854. Her profession is listed as a spinner.

[NI2745] I cannot read DiSalvo's first name very well, but I think it is Francesco We know his age, parents, and profession of shoemaker from his marriage record in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. The handwriting is very bad - just sticks!

[NI2749] We know of Maria through her wedding record. At age 14, she is the youngest Sicilian girl that we have seen to marry. Her father, Giuseppe is dead by the date of her marriage.

[NI2750] We know about Francesco from his death record found in the civil records of Patti. It gives his parents names and his age. Both of his parents are listed as spinners. His wife's name is also given. We also have information about him from records involving his children" Rosalia and Giuseppe.

[NI2751] Paola is a weaver on her daughter, Rosalia's wedding record in the civil records of Patti.

[NI2752] We find Antonino's death record in the civil records of Patti.

[NI2756] I cannot make out the last name of Vincenzo His mother is Rose Colloraffi. He is born in Militello. There is a large age difference between him and his new wife.

[NI2761] It is impossible to read the first name of Rosario's wife in the two birth listings in San Piero Patti. This last name also marries into my branch of the family in Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI2762] Concetta's surname is spelled with 2 f's in the birth record in San Piero Patti.

[NI2764] We know of Rosalia, her parents' names and professions and information about her husband from her marriage record in the civil records of Patti.

[NI2768] The information about Giuseppe is from his death certificate in the civil records of Patti. It states that he was a shoemaker and not married.

[NI2770] The Presti or Lo Presti family marries into the Colloraffi family in both San Piero Patti and Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI2778] This information is from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

[NI2781] We know about this family from the marriage records of their daughter, Francesca in the civil records of Librizzi. I have attached him to these parents only due to the possible date of his birth and the location...There is no proof to support that these are his parents. However, this is the only way that I can place these people in our family tree.

[NI2783] We know about Rosario, his parents names and ages, birth places and his wife and parents from his marriage record in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2787] I am guessing that these are the parents of Antonino. All we know about him is from the marriage record of his daughter, Angela in the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello. It states that he is a farmer and that his wife is dead by the time that his daughter, Angela marries, at age 17 in 1863. His wife's name is very hard to read but looks like Caterina Baffoali. His daughter marries into the Amato family as do other Collorafis in Librizzi.

[NI2789] Angela is only 17 when she marries, which is young for a Colloraffi girl, and we have only see happen when a parent has died. Her marriage certificate states that her mother has died. She is a spinner.

[NI2796] Michele's birth record is in the civil records of Patti. It gives the names of his parents.

[NI2797] Information about Giuseppina's birth date and parents is from the civil records of Librizzi.

[NI2802] Franchina is found in the census of San Piero Patti for 1681. There is no other information given for her, as to age, parents, birthdate, etc. I have placed her here only so that we can know of her. I do not know if this is her family. We do not see her in the census of S.P.P. for 1714.

[NI2803] I have placed Vincenzo with this family so that he can be in our tree. I know nothing about him except that he was in the census of San Piero Patti in 1681 and not in 1714. We also have his signature. He must have been some sort of official for the census or town.

[NI2804] We find mention of Mercuiro in the census of San Piero Patti in 1681. He is not there in 1714. I suspect that he is the same person mentioned as Mario Colorifi in the census of Patti in 1714,

[NI2805] We read of Mario Colorofi in the census of Patti in 1715. There are no members of our family mentioned in 1681. I suspect that this Mario is the same person as Mercuriro Collorofe that is in the San Piero Patti census for 1681. I have placed him with this family only in order to mention him in our tree. I do not know his real relationship since no parents are given. The actual page for his household listing is missing.

[NI2806] We read of Giovana and her parents in the census of Librizzi for 1681.

[NF0021] The marriage liscense of Maria was found in records of the Bronx #1070.

[NF0025] The marriage date and dates of births and deaths of their children are from the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello. These differ by a few days from the birth dates recorded by family members. The birth date for their daughter, Maria Modica, as well as the names of her parents is from her application for social security #060-09-2065 on November 26, 1936.

[NF0264] We have the marriage record for Maria and Carmelo, giving their ages and parent's names and birth places from the civil records of San Piero Patti, Sicilia, Italia. The account is written in a narrative form and states that they were married in nearby Librizzi.

[NF0267] marriage certificate found in records of San Piero Patti, 1908 LDS #1802763

[NF1054] I am guessing that Rosario was the child of these parents. We know of Rosario from his marriage record in the civil records of Librizzi.

[NF1066] It is interesting to see how the spelling of this name changes. It is first spelled with one f by the grandfather Pietro. He moves to Sant' Agata di Militello and it is spelled Colloraffi. Santo, his son, moves back to Librizzi and it is with one f, and then the grandson, Francesco's name is spelled very wrong on the birth record of Librizzi - Collofi!
