Ship's Passenger Lists:
If you know the name, age, and year of arrival of your ancestor, you will save yourself a great deal of time. Rememeber that most immigrant arrivals before 1850 were in New South Wales.
Also, many times passenger arrivals were not recorded, and many that were recorded were not indexed. Many were and can be found in known indexes for the different Australian States.

Most genealogists hope to discover the precise day their immigrant ancestors arrived in Australia. Unfortunately, often passenger arrivals weren't recorded and those that were weren't indexed. On the other hand... many WERE recorded and can be found in known indexes for different Australian states.
