What do you see?

When Emily participated in the 2004 UIL Creative Writing competition, she was in the second grade at Rock Prairie Elementary.  Her teacher was Mrs. McMurray.  Her UIL coach was Ms. Knetsar.

She had 30 minutes to write.  This is what she saw:

The Malisoon Mountains

Way up in Malisoon mountain was deadmans cabbin.  It was said that this was where Alexander was shot.  Now everyone believed that the ghost of Alexander haunted it.  One day little Sue and her Uncle Zuckerman were crossing Malisoon mountain to get to Auntie Pot Berrie’s house.  When they got to the top of the mountain it was sunset.  “Well,” said Uncle Zuckerman “ looks like we have to stay in at deadmans cabbin.”  When they walked inside it seemed to be colder than the inside of an iceburg.  Sue and Uncle Zuckerman grabbed one of the quilts and curled up in a red cot.  Sue couldn’t get to sleep.  The hoot of the owl sounded like a trumpet calling “Time to get up!  No sleep tonight!”  The next morning Sue and Uncle Zuckerman had a breakfast of blueberry pancakes and went on their way.  By noon they reached Grizzly Bear Woods.  They kept thinking they heard rustling in the bushes.  But it was nothing.  Soon they came to Hammer Head creek.  As they crossed they saw dark shadows looming in the water.  They decided to make camp in Mushroom Meadow.  The next day they reached Cat Castello.  They saw people being put in prison.  Then they came to Lion Lake there lion cubs played in the lake while parents watched from the trees.  That evening Sue and Uncle Zuckerman reached Whale Waterfall.  Thats where they made camp.  They were more exausted then a African Swallow is when its flying from its enemies.  That night it was as qiet as a mouse.  Sue got plenty of sleep.  The next day they came to Rinosoris River.  They were excited it would only take a few days to get to Auntie Pot Berrie’s house.  That evening they finally got to Auntie Pot Berrie’s house!  Boy were they happy.
