Waddell-Kirtley
Married at the home of bride's
uncle, Mr J. E. Robinson, on South
street, in this city, at 3 o'clock yester-
day afternoon. Mr William H. Wad-
dell Jr, and Miss Lulu Kirtley, elder
R. B. Briney officiating.
The wedding was a quiet one, only
the immediate relatives of the bride
and groom being present.
The bride being a residant of
Lexington for several years and has
made many friends during her resi-
dence in this city.
The groom is a son of Mr William
H. Waddell Sr, who resides near Lex-
ington. He is well and favorable
known in this community and is held
in the highest esteem for his sterlling
qualities of manhood.
The bride's gown was a light gray
cloth, tailor made, with lace passemen-
trie trimmings, with white hat and
gloves.
After the ceremony an elegant
luncheon was served.
Mr and Mrs Waddell left yesterday
for the home of the groom's
parent's, where a reception will be
given them this evening. They will
go to housekeeping in a short time on
a farm near Lexington.
Mrs Robinson was assisted in enter-
taining by her niece, Mrs Joe Hack-
ler, nee Mary Kirtley, a sister of the
bride.

ATTACK OF HEART DISEASE

Lexington man succumbs at Home
on Bloom Street--Funeral
to be tomorrow.
D. O. Welch died at his home,
1718 Bloom Street, at 9:30 o'clock
yesterday morning following an
attack of heart disease a short
time before.
The funeral services will be
held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow af-
ternoon at the M. E. Church,
South. The services will be in
charge of the Rev. J. E. Alexan
der of Marshall Mo., formerly
pastor of the church here, as-
sited by the Rev. A. B. Schowen-
gerdt, pastor of the Methodist
Epsicapol chruch.
Mr Welch was born in Texas
county Missouri, April 15 1868.
He was 57 years old at the time
of his death. He came to Lex-
ington about 18 years ago.
The wife, three daughters and
three sons survive. The daugh-
ters are Mrs Tom Stanley of In-
dependece Mo., Mrs Frank Stev-
ens of Lexington and Miss Vir-
ginia Welch of Marysville Kans.
The sons are Charles Welch, Lynn
Welch and Edwin Welch, all of
Lexington. Three brothers also
survive: James Welch of Waynes-
ville, Mo., Thomas Welch of New
Mexico and William Welch of Af-
ton Okla.

BY DEATH
Had Been in Ill
Health for Past
Five Months
Mrs Martha Emaline Ray, mo-
ther of Tom Ray, well known Ma-
dill man, died at her home in
Woodville Friday, following an ill-
ness of five months. Cause of her
death was given as paralysis.
Mrs Ray was born December 12,
1869, and had lived in and near
Woodville for the past 56 years.
The body lay in state at the Watts
funeral home here until time for
the funeral services, which were
held at the Methodist church in
Woodville at 10 o'clock Saturday
morning.
Rev. J. B. Dennis, pastor of the
Methodist church in Kingston, had
charge of the services and was as-
sisted by Rev. D. L. Riley, pastor
of the Madill Baptist church.
Music was arranged by Mrs Bill
Vann, of Woodville.
Mrs Ray is survived by four
children, Tom Ray, of Madill: Mrs
Emma Shields, Whichta Falls, Tex:
Mrs Eliza McCuan and Miss Rennie
Ray, both of Woodville.
Grandchildren who were present
at the funeral include Mrs Elenor
Rogers and Miss Mildred Rogers,
Tulsa: Mrs Thelma Bills, Amarillo,
Tex: Mrs Jewell Prickett, Sea-
graves, Tex, and Mrs Tomme Jean
Ray, Madill.
Pallbearers were Lacy Dillow, Tom
Steele, Ike Lemmons, Bill Vann, J.
W. Johnson, Joe Taylor, W. Y
Wiley and Will Jones.
Burial was in the Woodville ceme-
tery. Arrangements were directed
by Watts funeral home.
EMMA SHIELDS
Emma R. Shields, 80, of 2800 S. 25th St., died Satur-
day at her home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran
Church with the Rev. J. Russel Kinser officiating. Bur-
ial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by El-
liot-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Born in Woodville, Okla., she moved from Ballinger
to Abilene in 1972.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Zion Lu-
theran Church.
She was the widow of A. B. "Bud" Shields.
Survivors include a son, Irvin Shields of Abilene;
three daughters, Bonnie Morris of Denton, Manon Tar-
rant of Hawkins and Ida Little of Abilene; 11 grand-
children; and several great-grandchildren.
John Little
John Henry Little, 89, of Greenville, died Wednesday
at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services
are aat 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home
Chapel with Rick Henslee officiating. Burial is inn Celestee Cemetery.
The son of Frank Little and Clora Struck, he was born November
30, 1908 in Kaufman County. He married Noema Aven on Dec. 30
1933 in Sulphur Springs. He was a mechanic with ESCO
Manufacturing, retired.
Mr Little was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of Greenville; a son, Larry Little
of Caddo Mills; a daughter, Peggy Carter of Trinidad; three sisters,
Odell Cole of Lake Whitney, Callie Blackstone of
Canton and Hettie Whitfield of Mesquite; eight grandchildren;
14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was prceded in death by a son, Dale Little, in 1997; four brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

100th
birthday
Lulu K. Waddell celebrated her 100th birthday on Sunday,
September 24 1978. A party in her honor was held at 2 p.m.
that day at Lafayette Manor Nursing Home in Lexington.
She was surrounded by eighteen family members ans many
of her friends at the nursing home. Mrs Waddell has lived
mostt of her life in Lexington. She has two children, Walter
Waddell, Nob Noster, and Lulu Nevels, Lexington. She
also , has seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchild-
ren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs Waddell recieved many cards including a birthday card from
President and Mrs Jimmy Carter which she was very excited and happy about.

WADDELL, Walter M., 76, Knob Noster, Mo, formerly of Overland
Park, died Wed. at the home. He was born in Lexington Mo and had
lived in this area three years before moving to Sedalia in 1956
and to Knob Noster in 1974. Mr Waddell was a farmer and a horse
tainer before he retired. He was a member of the Lexington
Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Heart of America
Horse Assoc., the Tennessee Walking Horse Assoc., the Illinois
Trotting and Pacing Assoc, and the NRA. He leaves his wife,
Frances, two sons W. K. of Lincoln, NE and Charles of Lexington
and a daughter, Mrs Betty L. Goodin, Higginsville: two stepsons,
Bob L. Jasper, Tuscson, AZ and Wm. H. Jasper, Memphis, TN; a
sister, Mrs Lulu M. Nevels, Lexington; 16 grandchildren and 10
great grandchildren. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at
the Walker-Nadler-Graff Chapel, Lex; burial in Memorial Park
Cemetery.

Funreal services for Mrs Sue E, Aven, 89, of 4118 Cordell
Street, who died Monday morning, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m.
today by Mr V. E. Howard at Coker-Mathews-Peters Chapel.
Born April 17, 1884 in Hunt County, she was the daughter of
Jerome and Nannie McWilliams Slater. In 1901 she was wed to
Lester Aven who died in 1941. She was a member of Johnson Street
Church of Christ. Burial will be in Celeste Cemetery.
Survivors are four sons, A. C. Aven, Commerce; A. Z. Aven,
Tyler; J. B. Aven, Arp, and R. E. Aven, Orange, and four
daughters, Mrs Noema Little, Mrs Edith Thomason and Mrs Hazel
Butler, all of Greenville, and Mrs Gladys Angell, Dallas;
twenty-seven grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be W. R. Hudson, A. A. Wilson, Albert Duncan,
Leon Powers, Billy Fant and O.G. McCullough.

WOLFE CITY-Mrs J. E. (Alice) Slater, 80, of Wolfe City died
Monday at 7 a.m. in Bonham following a lengthy illness. Services
will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Owens Funeral Chapel with Mr Hal
Smith and Mr Dwight Gardner Officiating. Burial will be in
Celeste Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 1 1898 in Van Zandt County, the daughter of
Zachery and Ada Northcutt Heir. She was married to Jerome E.
Slater on Dec. 22 1914 in Longview. Mrs Slater was a member of
the Church of Christ.
Surviving are two sons, Calving (Bo) Slater of Dallas and
Jimmie H. SLater of Monticello, Ky two daughters, Mrs Dorman
Tucker of Wolfe City and Mrs Luther Webb of Dallas a brother,
James Heir of Longmont Colo., 10 grandchildren, and 17
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons and a
daughter.
BUTLER
Funeral services for Harvey Herman Butler, 78, of 3811 Oneal
are set for 3:30 p.m.today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel.
He died Wednesday morning at a local nursing home.
Murphy Phillips will afficiate and burial will be in
Memoryland Memorial Park.
He was born in Hopkins County Jan. 23, 1904 to James Harvey
and Amanda Susan Herman Butler. He maarried Hazel Aven in 1928 in
Cash. A carpenter, Mr Butler was also a member of the Johnson
Street Church of Christ.
Survivers includes his wife of Greenville; a son James Butler
of Duncanville; daughters, Mrs Doris Moon of Lone Oak and Mrs
Sharon King of Red Oak; a brother J.B. Butler of Sulphur
Springs; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Richard Butler, Ronny Butler, David Moon,
Kenneth Thomason, Vernon Pierce and J.A. Ragsdale.
AVEN
Funeral services for A.C. (Clcik) Aven, of 4206 Bradley
Circle, who died Wednesday evening at his residence, will be at
10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral
Chapel.
He will be buried in Mt Zion Cemetery in Hopkins County.
He was born Nov 6, 1906 in Alba, Texas the son of Lester Aven
and Sue E. Slater Aven. He married Aletrice Vaughan on Feb. 14,
1926 in Greenville. He was a retired farmer and a follower of
the Church of Christ faith.
He is survuved by his wife of Greenville, one daughter, Mrs
Ann Pierce of Greenville; two brothers, A.Z. Aven of Tyler, R.E.
Aven of Orange; three sisters, Mrs Noema Little, Mrs Edith
Thomason, Hazel Butler, all of Greenville; three grandchildren
all of Greenville, and five great-grandchildren.
He was proceded in death by his father, mother, infant
daughter, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of
Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Home.
ANGELL
Mrs Gladys Aven Angell died Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in Sulpher
Springs. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in
Coker-Mathews-Peters Funeral Chapel with Dr Dan Winkler
officiating. Burial will be in Celeste Cemetery. Nephews will
serve as pallbearers.
She was born in Celeste on Aug. 20 1902, the daughter of Lester
and Sue Slater Aven. Mrs Angell was a member of the Johnson
Street Church of Christ.
Survuving are a son, Vaudra Lynn Angell of Plano; a daughter,
Mrs Lanell Volk of Sulpher Springs; three brothers, Clifton Aven
of Greenville, A.Z. Aven of Tyler, R.E. Aven of Orange; three
sisters, Mrs Hazel Butler, Mrs Edith Thomason, Mrs Noema Little,
all of Greenville; five grandchildren, Mrs Barbara Root of
Irving, Mrs Nancy Greenfield and Mrs Susan Rowell both of Sulpher
Springs, Mrs Janice Kirkland of Farmers Branch and Mrs Robbie
Rich of Plano.
She was proceded in death by her parents and three
brothers.
AVEN
CELESTE- Beth Aven, 81, of Celeste, died Wednesday night at
Greenville nursing home.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Taylor Funeral
Chapel in Leonard with Connie Hollis officiating. Burial will be
at Celeste Cemetery.
Born May 5, 1890 in Texas, she was the daughter of H.W. and
Ann Morrow Fargo. She married Gaston Aven March 31, 1908 in
Sherman. He preceded her in death in 1967. She was a housewife
and member of the Celeste Church of Christ.
Surviving are her sisters, Earlie Olene of Santa Anna,
Calif.; Beulah Waddell of Gunner. and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of the arangements.
EDITH THOMASON
Funeral services will be held today at p.m. at the Johnson
Street Church of Christ for Mrs Edith Frances Thomason, 86, of
Greenville. She died Saturaday at her residence.
Randy Daw wil officiate at the services. Burial will be in
Forrest Park Cemetery.
Mrs Thomason was born March 3, 1904 in Hunt County to Lester
F. and Sue Slater Aven. She was married May 9, 1920 , in Cash to
J.B. Thomason. She was a member of the Johnson Street Church of
Christ.
Survivers include three sons, Kenneth Thomason and James
Thomason, both of Greenville, and Jerry Thomason of Grand
Prairie; two daughters, Vodene Ragdale and Janie McInnis, both of
Greenville; a brother A.Z. Aven; two sisters, Hazel Butler and
Noema Little, both of Greenville. She is also survived by 15
grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1962, as well as
three grandchildren, five brothers and one sister.

STELLA M. ANGELL
McKINNEY- Services Stella M. Angell of Plano, 59 year old Texas
Instruments employee who died Friday in Medical City in Dallas,
will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow
Funeral Home Chapel.
Loyd Smith and Seth Abbott will officiate, and burial will be
in Ridgeview Memorial Park.
Mrs Angell was born in Hunt County, the daughter of Henry
"Armon" Baker and Agnes Marie Bowers Baker, and married Vaudra
Lynn Angell Oct 17, 1944 in Leonard. She was a member of the
Plano East Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband; daughters Mrs Loy (Janice) Kirkland
of Carrollton, and Mrs Jim (Robbie Carule) Rich of Plano;
brothers Windel Baker of Randolph and Thomas Henry Baker Jr. of
Arilington; sisters, Wynell Howard of Dallas, Margaret Hamilton
of California, and Lola Jersey of Georgia; and two
grandchildren.
WILLIS
Celestine Angell Willis, 74, of 4308 Roberts St. died
Friday at 8:30 p.m. at her residence. Funeral services will be at
2 p.m. today at Johnson Street Church of Chirst with Mr Murphy
Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Weiland Cemetery.
Born Dec. 16, 1906 in Scurry, she was the daughter of John
Robert Trayler and Clora Ann Struck. On July 22, 1931, she was
married to R.C. Angell in Texarkana Tex. He preceded her in death
on May 6, 1959. In 1961 she married Curt Willis who preceded her
in death in 1966. A housewife, Mrs Willis was a member of the
Johnson Street Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, Don Angell of Greenville; stepson, V.L.
Willis of Plano; stepdaughter, Mrs Lanell Volk of Sulphur
Springs; two brothers; four sisters; seven grandchildren; and
five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Larry McCullough, Paul Nalls, Bobby
Spradling, E.D. Nalls, R.V. Nalls, and Farrell Nalls.
