Julie's Cats

Well hi and welcome to Julie's Cat Page. This is where you can learn about my real life feline friends! In my house we currently have two cats living here. The younger one is my cat only. I care for him. The older is the family cat. Mom cares for her. Read on about my precious kitties!!! NOTE: the only things that have changed since this was written is that Slinky ran away, but came back and now lives only outside(he's still as adorable as ever!)and that Gretchen is now acting more her age. She sleeps often and plays very little. She doesn't eat much any more either. Slinky now makes friends with all wild animals including raccoons and he eats twice as much as he used to. He must share with his friends. :+)

Gretchen

Gretchen is the older cat. That picyure beside her name resembles her very well, but is not an actual picture of her. She is currently 10 years old. She practically rules our household. You don't mess around with Gretchen. Why? Because she'll show you how mean a cat can be! Although her previous owners had her declawed, she can still use her teeth. And believe it or not, she still CAN climb trees. We have had Gretchen since she was one year old.

Gretchen's Looks
Gretchen is a purebred Siamese cat. She is getting old so her light colors are turning dark. Her eyes change colors from a peaceful blue to an evil red and everything in between, depending on her mood. She is rather bulky for a siamese. She's not overweight, but just a little large for her breed. Gretchen is spayed.

Slinky

Slinky is my almost 2 year old kitten. The picture beside his name is a cartoon drawing that resembles him. He's a male mixed breed who I found a pet store early one spring when he was 12 weeks old. Before brought to the pet store, he was born on his mother's owner's front porch. The owner brought the kittens to the pet shop to sell them. Slinky is very frisky and likes to play with Gretchen( who hates him!!!) and run around at top speed. Slinky refuses to go near the door, because he hates going outside. Gretchen on the other hand, is an indoor/outdoor cat.

Slinky's Looks
Slinky is a plain black mixed breed kitten. He is a long haired cat. His tail is so poofy that it seems as if he is angry and his fur is standing on end. His black ears have long black hairs sticking out which makes him look so cute!!! My mom says that he looks like an old man because of his hanging down around his neck. Slinky is very beautiful even though just a little mixed breed. He is often referred to as the prettiest cat of the house by my family when you would think that Gretchen would be. Oh and Slinky's eyes are a treasure in themselves. He has the most beautiful yellow/green eyes!!! They are very shiny and bright and curious. And Slinky is neutered. I'm beginning to think he's part Maine Coon. They are a very large American breed of cats w/ fur the legth of his. I'm going to post some pictures of a couple of maine coons so you can get an idea of what he looks like since I don't have a scanner. The black one is what Slinky's head and color look like and the other one is what his body looks like. See my reasons for thinking he's maine coon?

Slinky Stories!!!

Slinky is sitting on the desk in front of me as I type, well now he's on the floor beside me, but he's just a kitten and can't sit still. Now he's headed for the kitchen and probably Gretchen's food bowl. Lucky for him that Gretchen is outside!!!
Yes well Slinky and Gretchen don't get along. Actually it's Gretchen who can't get along. Slinky just wants to play and doesn't understand why the mean kitty slaps him in the face and hisses. But he doesn't stop!!! He just loves to surprise Gretchen from behind whe she's walking down the hall! He'll be sitting on top of the couch when Gretchen comes in from outside. Gretchen is unsuspecting that he is there and continues the march to her food bowl. As she walks past the edge of the couch and into the hallway, Slinky jumps down onto her back. Gretchen spins around hissing, but Slinky is already gone and hidden behind some chairs. She'll try to put on a chase but it's usless. She's quick, but he's quicker!!! Then she'll give up and retreat to the kitchen to sit in a chair under the table. By now she's too nervous to eat. Then Slinky will slowly creep up while Gretchen has her eyes closed and lay down underneath her chair so that she can't see him. That way when she comes down, he can get her again!!!
Lately, since he's been a year old, he's grown a lot. My friend Anna came over one day to borrow something and Slinky wandered by outside and meowed at her. She was surprised to find out that he was Slinky b/c she didn't even recognize him at first and she's known him almost since the day I brought him home.

Gretchen Stories!!!

Gretchen has many nicknames in our household. My mom calls her Bear. She says this little poem about "Bear" sometimes,

Here come a bear!
It walks like a bear
It sounds like a bear
It bites like a bear
It growls like a bear!

And then she gives Gretchen a pat on the head.
I like to call Gretchen Gretchie for short and sometimes a call her my big baby girl. Slinky is my little buddy or little baby. Daddy calls her Queenie because she's the "Queen" of the house.
Gretchen will answer to her name by looking at you if she's in a good mood and will come if she's in a great mood, but if she's unhappy, just save your voice.
Gretchen believes(in my opinion) that the world and all the people in it belong to her. Peoples laps are pillows just waiting for her to sleep on them, but if that pillow dares to move while she is laying there, the pillow gets a nice scratch from her back claws or a nice set of teeth marks on the skin nearest to her head. She believes that other cats and dogs don't deserve to live because she is the only important one. Other animals including squirels, chipmunks, rabbits, snakes, lizards, and birds are for her hunting pleasure as she kills them all frequently.
Also, Gretchen has a favorite toy. It is a little dog that used to be mine when I was really little. It was a Fisher Price Smooshie or something like that. Anyway, we call it her baby because she carries it around by it's long ears. She likes to throw it up it the air and try to catch it. It is really cute and fun to watch. She also likes to keep it in her water/food bowl.
When Gretchen was younger she had a litter of kittens. It is well known that Siamese cats are some of the worst cat mothers of all. Gretchie had 9 kittens that morning and ONE lived through the morning. It was all black and exteremly precious. Gretchen didn't like the poor thing very much though and she constantly tried to hide it from my mother and then she wouldn't feed it. The kitten died after being left under a spare bedroom bed's covers. Yes, that is how evil my cat is.
The other day I was walking in the bathroom to get a brush or something and Gretchen was sitting on the towel rack. I tried to be friendly and pet her, but no, she wouldn't stand for that. She started to attack my hand, but suddenly she stopped and started licking the water on the outside of the pepsi can I had in my other hand. It was very funny and cute.
My sisters and I always liked to put collars on Gretchie when she was little. If there is anything Gretchen hates more than the vet, Slinky, or me, it is wearing a collar. When we'd put one on her she'd lay there and growl and when that didn't make us remove it she played dead. I'm serious! She would lay on her side on the ground until someone came along to remove it. If no one did within a while she would kind of scoot around on her stomach until she got where she wanted to go. Eventually mom would take it off and my sisters would complain. It was pretty funny to see her crawling around like that.
