BILLY JOEL

The Piano Man

Welcome to Laura's Piano Man Homepage!
I have been a LONG-TIME fan of Billy Joel's
and this page is devoted to him and his music.

I hope you enjoy it!

I know this is small and blurry
But this is me (Laura) on the left (arm extended)
Giving Mr. Joel flowers at a concert in 1996!!!
I was thrilled to say the least!!!
Thank you, Patrick, for taking me to this show!!!

BABY GRAND

LATE AT NIGHT WHEN IT'S DARK AND COLD
I REACH OUT FOR SOMEONE TO HOLD
WHEN I'M BLUE, WHEN I'M LONLEY
SHE COMES THROUGH, SHE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN,
MY BABY GRAND IS ALL I NEED

IN MY TIME, I'VE WONDERED EVERYWHERE
'ROUND THIS WORLD
SHE WOULD ALWAYS BE THERE
ANY DAY, ANY HOUR
ALL IT TAKES IS THE POWER IN MY HANDS, THIS BABY GRAND'S
BEEN GOOD TO ME

THEY SAY, NO ONE'S GONNA PLAY THIS ON THE RADIO
THEY SAID THE MELANCOLY BLUES ARE DEAD AND GONE
BUT ONLY SONGS LIKE THESE, PLAYED IN MINOR KEYS
KEEP THOSE MEMORIES HOLDING ON

I'VE COME FAR FROM THE LIFE I STRAYED IN
AND I'VE GOT THE SCARS FROM THOSE DIVES I'VE PLAYED IN
NOW I'M HOME AND I'M WEARY
IN MY BONES, EVERY DREARY ONE NIGHT NIGHT STAND
MY BABY'S GRAND BEEN GOOD TO ME
EVER SINCE THIS GIG'S BEGAN, MY BABY'S GRAND'S
BEEN GOOD TO ME

BILLY JOEL, BABY GRAND, THE BRIDGE ALBUM

For fun, I blended a few pictures together so
Billy Joel and I (Laura) are "playing" a duet!
I suppose this is as close to the real thing I will know!

"I knew from the time I was fourteen, when I started being a professional musician, making money as a musician, that I was not going to live an ordinary kinda life...I knew I could make a living as a musician. Money, I never had a desire for..."

BILLY JOEL

William Martin Joel was born in the Bronx on May 9, 1949 and grew up in Hicksville, Long Island. His parents noticed his interest in classical music when he was four years old and signed him up immediately for piano lessons. His extraordinary talent was obvious and he continued his study of classical music for about a dozen years.

He joined his first rock band, the "Echoes" in 1964. The "Echoes" became the "Lost Souls," and then the "Emerald Lords." His parents had divorced when Billy was seven and he decided he needed the income the music provided to assist with the bills. As a teen-ager, he was known to frequently play piano at night clubs.

Billy Joel and his bass player then joined a group called "The Hassles" and recorded two songs for United Artist. In 1970, he was part of a duo named "Attila." Realizing his dream was to be a songwriter, he created his first solo album, entitled "Cold Spring Harbor" which was released in 1972.

Billy Joel has recorded 12 albums since the beginning of his long career. He is the recipient of five Grammys, The Grammy Legend Award, and one American Music Award. He is noted for his humanitarian efforts and has been the recipient of The President's Humanitarian Award two years in a row. He was inducted into the Song Writer's Hall of Fame in 1992.
