Thomas 'Tommie' Bastin (son of Thomas Bastin, Jr. and Mary W. (ATWELL) Bastin, grandson of Thomas and Hannah Bastin of Caswell County, NC) was born 07 Apr 1818 in Caswell County, NC. At about the age of 12, he and his parents migrated from Caswell County, NC to (then) eastern Barren County, KY. He married Louanna Shofner. The portion of Barren County where they lived was carved off to form Metcalfe County in 1860. Tommie died there, in Metcalfe County, KY, on 22 May 1889. A more complete biography of him is available here. It includes his war service in the Federal Army, in which he lost his left arm in September 1864.
