Lavender...my alltime favorite herb. I just love the smell! Lavender is calming, soothing, emotionally balancing, and is an anti-depressant. It's antiseptic, antibacterial and pain killing properties make it valuable in treating cuts, wounds and burns. It is also a decongestant and is effective against colds and flu. These are just a few of the varied uses for Lavender....there are so many more. Try a few and see if you don't love it as much as I do.

Herbal Bath Bags
9" diam. circles of unbleached muslin (cheese cloth works well too!) 6 tbsp bran 1 tbsp lavender flowers 1 tbsp chamomile flowers 1 tbsp rosemary tips 3 small rubber bands 3 mtrs narrow ribbon or twine Place 2 tbsp of bran in center of each circle. Add the lavender to one bag, the chamomile to a second and the rosemary to the third. Gather each circle of material up and close with a rubber band. Then tie a reasonable length of ribbon or twine around each bag to make a loop, so that the bag may be hung from the tap in the stream of water.

Wheelbarrow

Lavender & Marjoram Bath Oil
2 tbsp almond oil 7 drops lavender oil 3 drops marjoram oil Measure out all the ingrdients into a small bowl. Mix all together and pour into the bath water while running; then have a long, soothing soak.

Wheelbarrow

Lavender Nosegay Pot
terracotta pot 1 block florist's foam scissors 1 mtr ribbon 4-5 lrg bunches dried lavender Press the foam into the pot. Trim dried lavender to desired height, allowing for at least 2" for pot depth. Insert a small bunch into the center of the pot; gradually working to outer edges. Fill pot tightly with dried lavender(it takes quite a few bunches to fill even a small pot, so have plenty handy). Once the pot is completely full and you can't get another stem into the foam, wrap the ribbon around the top of the pot and tie a large bow.(Ribbon with wire works best for forming a nice looking bow.)

Wheelbarrow

Lavender Chest Rub
8 drops lavender oil 2 drops chamomile oil 1/4 cup olive oil Combine ingredients. Rub on chest as needed, especially before retiring last thing at night.

Wheelbarrow

Lavender Compress
5 drops lavender oil 2 cups hot water soft cloth In a small bowl, combine oil and water. Soak cloth in lavender water and wring it out. Fold cloth and apply to back of neck and forehead. (This is very good to relieve occasional dizzyness and fainting.)

Wheelbarrow

Lavender Smelling Salts
1/2 tsp rock salt 5 drops lavender oil Place salt in a small container. Add oil drop by drop. The salt will absorb the oil quickly. Carry in a closed container, opening and sniffing when needed.

Wheelbarrow

Lavender Headache Compress
5 drops laveder oil 1 cup cold water soft cloth Add oil to water and wet cloth. Wring out excess water and place dampened cloth over forehead and eyes. Use as long as needed.
