(Shaded areas are the ancient Clan Morrison territories.)

CHIEF OF CLAN MORRISON

Dr. Iain M. Morrison became the present Chief of the Clan Morrison in 1974 taking the mantle from his father Dr. John Morrison (Morrison of Ruchdi). Dr.John Morrison became Chief in 1965 and died on June 12, 1974. He traced his lineage back fourteen generations to the Morrisons of Harris, the hereditary keepers of the Dun of Pabby.

THE HISTORY OF OUR SOCIETY

The Clan Morrison Society was founded in 1909, and it was granted letters patent by the Lord Lyon, King of Arms. The society embraces the surnames of Morrison, Morison, Murisun, Gilmour, Gilmore, Judge and Brieve. The clan badge is driftwood and its slogans are Dun Uisdean (Eistein Castle) and Teaghlach Phabbay (the family of Pabbay). Morrisons have a total of six different tartans which includes a society and clan tartan. The green society tartan is a variant of the MacKay sett with a red stripe. In the 1930s a 300 year old remnant of scarlet tartan was discovered on the Island of Lewis wrapped around an old Morrison family bible, and it received official recognition on January 3, 1968.

The clan has branches scattered worldwide. Canada and the United States are unified under the North American branch of the Clan Morrison Society.
