Grandma Grandma Barbar is now 98 and a major icon in the Blue Family. She believes in God, hard work and she loves people without regard to race, creed or color. She is the family historian, who can tell us all the facts, folkways, mores and what we should do and when we should do it. Her hobbies are cooking cakes, pies, various kinds of "soul food", gardening, knitting, sewing, crafts of all kinds, traveling with her son in his van and discussing everything with almost anyone at any time. She is greatly loved by all of the family and by those with whom she comes in contact.
MARCH 08, 2003
Barbara Blue Wreencher passed at 98 years just a few weeks before the 99th birthday. The following is from her OBITUARY.
Barbara Leslie Blue Wrencher was born into the family of the late Daniel Leslie and Julia Curry Leslie on April 18, 1904 in Hoke County, North Carolina. She was one of seven children. She departed this life, going home to her Heavenly Father, on Saturday, March 8, 2003.
Her early life was built upon Christian service and the love of God. Her father was a Baptist minister and her mother a devout church and community worker.
She received the basic education available at that time from the Hoke County schools and, although the offerings were limited, she was to most people a highly articulate person and Bible Scholar. Many were surprised at her ability to write and speak with the skill of a highly educated person.
Barbara moved to Carthage in the early 1920’s with her family and became a member of John Hall Presbyterian Church. There she met her husband-to-be- James F. Blue. They were joined in holy matrimony in 1924. To this union were born five children, Mary Telitha, Ann Juanita, John Leslie, James F. Jr., and Azalia Mae Blue. Some years following the death of her husband, James F. Blue Sr., she met and married Mr. Ransom Wrencher of Carthage.
She became a devoted church worker, serving on numerous committees and boards as well as becoming a Deacon and member of The Order Of Eastern Star. Her community service gave her saintly qualities as she devoted countless hours to the sick regardless of whether they were members of John Hall church or of any other church. She tirelessly served them in their homes and, at times, brought sick people into her own home to care for them. Her home was the gathering place for friends, family and guests throughout the year and especially on holidays. All came for her soulful cooking, good conversation and lots of laughter. “Miss Barbara” was mother, counselor, nurse, friend and confidante to hundreds of people. She was an inspiration and role model for children, her own and many others who loved her generous spirit. Above all, she was a staunch Christian woman who loved God, her family and her friends. Her faith in God was unshakable; she believed that the Bible was infallible and woe unto anyone who said anything different. Arguments to the contrary were soon put to rest friends who greatly miss her and will hold her close in their memories forever.
