Books by
Rev. David E. Dean
An Introduction by Gary W. Crisp
About the Authors
Although David Dean is listed as the “author” of these books, Elizabeth (his wife of 60+ years) has compiled and edited them. Because we know her so well, we know she has had a very great “input” into each and every book. As for David Dean, his life began high in the Himalayan Mountains of India where he was born to pioneer Pentecostal Missionaries. Deep and lasting impressions were made upon his young life by Godly parents who had faith that God would heal their son’s “club foot”. David had been born crippled.
How did this man get to the Himalayas, you might wonder? His Swedish-born mother, Edith, was a charter member of the Philadelphia Pentecostal Church of Stockholm (founded by Lewi Pethrus), and she went to India from that church, meeting Barth Dean, originally from Newfoundland. He was an Evangelist to India and Ceylon, and they were in many great revivals near the turn of the century.
In answer to their faith and trust in God, David’s foot was healed, being made straight and completely whole. As mentioned, his Godly parents made deep and lasting impressions upon his life, and most of this came about in the way David’s father so honored the Word of God. Throughout his life, his father read the Bible through 130 times, and many of these times he read while on his knees! Seeing his father so consistently on his knees and in the Word made an indelible mark on David’s life and ministry. To this day, he challenges all to whom he ministers that they read at least ten chapters a day.
His parents eventually moved to America, and they pastored several churches, finally retiring in Union City, Indiana. After David graduated from Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri, he married one of his classmates, Elizabeth Rice. Together, they pioneered, established, and pastored Calvary Assembly of God in Union City. (Note: This is where my wife, Patricia, met them as a young girl. She has known the Deans almost all of her life; I have known them since 1972, after marrying Patricia.)
It’s been about fifty years since they founded that church in Union City, and since that time they have preached and ministered the “Christ Life”, or: the Life in the Spirit. They have ministered in North America and most of the continents of the world, and even many islands of the sea. As Missionary Evangelists, they have taken over forty missionary trips overseas... three of them around the world.
Their burden is, and always has been, to teach the Church the Way of the Christ Life. As all of these books will attest, most of their lives have been used to especially minister in the areas of denying self, crucifying the flesh, and following Jesus. They are now “retired” in Tyler, Texas, but they both still eagerly minister whenever and wherever they are able.
On a more personal note: we have never gone to visit these dear saints of the Lord without coming away blessed and refreshed and greatly encouraged. Truly, these two ministers of Christ have “practiced what they preached”. Also, please know that all proceeds -- not “a portion of”, but all -- go to the Deans, to help support their continued ministry.
•••FOOTNOTE: Brother David Dean went home to be with Lord last April, 2004. He is missed dearly by friends and family, and his wife, Elizabeth, is still carrying on the call and the ministry God placed into their lives many years ago.•••

“The Way of the Christ Life”As mentioned above, this particular book teaches Christians how to “walk” in the Life in the Spirit. In order to do so, we must be willing to “deny our self”, “crucify our flesh”, and “follow Jesus”, at any and all costs. This, in one word, means death: death to self, death to flesh, and death to our own wills. But, as is so true of most Spiritual Principles, “death” to one thing means “life” to another. Death to self, flesh and our wills means Life in Christ. There are many “benefits” to this Life in Christ, not the least of which are transformation, revelation, holiness and sanctification, just to name a few.

“Meat for the Household”Originally published in 1974, by Christ Life Revivals, Inc., this book was reprinted in 1985 to continue the study of Truth begun in the former book, The Way of the Christ Life. In the Foreward, Pastor E. M. Fjordbak writes that the book “speaks the depth of the hearts of David and Elizabeth Dean, that the Word of God should be for the whole household. The content of the message found herein incorporates within its scope the fulfillment of Scriptural needs of every individual. You will profit greatly from the study and application of this book.”
He continues to say, “I have known the Deans for many years; first as schoolmates (at Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri), and...it has been my privilege to be their pastor. They are completely dedicated to the work and ministry of strengthening believers within the Church. Their ministry among us has been rich and rewarding, and I can heartily recommend the study of this book.” (Note: Pastor Fjordbak was our pastor for nearly 15 years; during that time the Deans came and ministered the Word often, always being a blessing and an encouragement to our church.)

“The Believer’s Eternal Security”David and Elizabeth Dean have chosen to write in a scholarly, yet understandable, way on the very important Bible doctrine of Eternal Security. They have carefully chosen subjects describing the Person, Character and Divine Attributes of God. These are Foreknowledge, Predestination, Divine Election and the Sovereignty and Grace of God. They are all carefully, prayerfully, and scripturally studied. Not only is God’s Redemptive Plan detailed, but man’s responsibility and his response back to God are clearly shown. This book also shares the scriptural requirements for a holy walk with God. If you’ve had questions about eternal security (and we all have), this book will be a great help and blessing to you.

“The Divine Nature and Incomparable Word of God”The title really says it all. God has a Divine Nature, which the Deans explore and explain in very great detail. This 40 page book not only explores this Divine Nature of God, but also reveals the aspects of the Word of God, and how it is “incomparable”. In truth, nothing compares to or with God’s Word in beauty, strength, wisdom, grace, forgiveness, truth, or love. Using basically only Scripture, this book details the many-faceted traits and attributes of God, the personality of God, His moral attributes, and His ministry -- to us -- in this present day and age. It is an excellent guide and/or training tool for someone hoping to gain a deeper insight into the complexities of our Great God.
