There are examples of tokens throughout the bible. For instance, in Genesis 9, God establishes a covenant to never again flood the earth. He then explains that He will send a rainbow as a token to be a sign of His promise. In Genesis 17, God establishes a covenant with Abraham, promising that he would be the father of many nations and that his descendants would be people of God. God goes on to tell Abraham that a token of this covenant will be the circumcision of all of Abraham's male descendants. I'm sure by searching a concordance many other examples could be found.
There are also many, many examples of pledges in the Bible. I found thirty-three but will only give one in order that you, the reader, might not categorize this paper as a book. Genesis 38: 15-19 tells us of a pledge: When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute, for she had covered her face. Not realizing that she was his daughter-in-law, he went over to her by the roadside and said, "Come now, let me sleep with you." "And what will you give me to sleep with you?" she asked. "I'll send you a young goat from my flock," he said. "Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?" she asked. He said, "What pledge should I give you?" "Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand," she answered........ As you can see, a pledge is a sign of a promise that will be made good.
