This proverb refers to the human tendancy of denying responsibility.  Be careful using this phrase it can be very insulting unless used in a joking manner.  In ancient Korea, it was beleived that the peace or turmoil of departed ancestors was reflected in the lives of their descendants.  Ancestors are still reverenced and honored in modern Korea.  *jesa* Family ties are strong and matter even for those who have passed on.
 
 

This proverb encapsulates the spirit of The Little Red Hen in one grim sentance.  It implies that everyone should pull thier own weight.  Those who don't cannot expect reward with those who do. Alternately: "survival of the fittest".

Yo ryeong means essential or main point.  The phrase means to beat around the bush and fail to get to the point.  In ancient Korea the phrase had a more pointed meaning.  Yo meant neck and ryeong meant waist.  The phrase refered to Koreas system of capital punishment. The most seruious capital offenses were punished by cutting the criminal in half at the waist while lesser offenders were decapitated.  Few would desire to leave out such essentials to thier physical well being.
 
 

Dreaming of dragons is a good omen of things to come.  Dragons represent courage, good fortune and greatness.  This may be used in the imperitive form at bed time similar to the English 'Sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite.'  A related proverb is dream of pigs.
 
 

This proverb means to come in with a bang and go out with a fizzle.  In Korean folk tales there are three kinds of serpents.  The first is low and base.  Next is the honorable snake and possessing great powers at the top of the family is the dragon.  The calendar progresses from the year of the snake to the year of the dragon.  Nature starts out with small inklings of great works to come while man boasts of his power and then fails to deliver.
 
 

A frog in a well is king of all he surveys.  But then again his world is very small.  We might say that the frog has a 'big head'.  He has an over inflated view of his own importance.

Take your lumps. OR Take it like a man.  Chinese mustard may well be the hottest food consumed by man.  Cayanne peppers, kimchi and anything else you can think of does not compare to Chinese Mustard.
