StarWind Summer Gardens
I meant to do my work today But a brown bird sang in the apple tree, And a butterfly flitted across the field, And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land, Tossing the grasses to and fro, And a rainbow held out its shining hand.. So what could I do but laugh and go? -Richard le Gallienne- Life has loveliness to sell, All beautiful and splendid things, Blue waves whitened on a cliff, Roaring fire that sways and sings And children's faces looking up Holding wonder like a cup.
Life has loveliness to sell, Music like a curve of gold, Scent of pine trees in the rain, Eyes that love you, arms that hold, And for your spirit's still delight, Holy thoughts that star the night.
Spend all you have for loveliness, Buy it and never count the cost; For one white singing hour of peace Count many a year of strife well lost... -Sara Teasdale-
These are the things I prize And hold of dearest worth: Light of the sapphire skies, Peace of the silent hills, Shelter of the forests, comfort of the grass, Music of birds, murmur of little rills, Shadows of clouds that swiftly pass And, after showers, The smell of flowers.. And of the good brown earth, And best of all, along the way, friendship and mirth. -Henry Van Dyke-
