Elektra's Fine Foods, including the recipe for my world famous Elektra's Trail Mix!
Welcome to my family room! I'm very pleased to be showing you around. Let me tell you a little about myself. I am 10 years old. I had a rough start in life as a kitten, but I am a fortunate kitty. It was a dark and cold winter in Austin, TX, and I was a mere 6 weeks old. I somehow ended up living in the OUT on my own, without a regular bed to call my own, not knowing from where my next meal was coming. I was a miserable and unhappy kitten!
The one day, I caught the unmistakeable scent of FOOD in the air, and being rather hungry, I made for it. I was rewarded with a delicious meal! Some kind soul (a friend of the person who later became my mommy) had put food out!
But I was still cold. So, hoping that there would be more food where that came from, I set up camp outside this kind person's apartment. And a few days later, my persistance was once again rewarded!
Out of the cold came a woman bearing large bags and suitcases, fresh from her winter vacation in Miami. Upon seeing me camped on her doorstep, she immediately asked her friend who I was. The friend replied that I was just a stray that had been there for a few days.
Being an intelligent woman, and knowing the weather was bad, the woman picked me up. Her first comment was on my moustache, which she seemed to think was rather cute. I told you she was a smart woman! She took me inside, and from that day forward, I have been sleeping on her pillows at night!
Because of my traumatic experiences in the OUT, I prefer to be esconced safely under the bed during the days. Also, since I tend to be rather shy around other humans, this works all around to my advantage!
This is my son, Mahler. He is indeed my pride an joy. He is a comeback kitty! In February of 1997, the Ohio River flooded several communities, including the town of Madison, Indiana, where Mahler was born. There were 5 in the litter, and sadly, Mahler's birth mother and two of his littermates were killed in the flooding. But happily, Mahler and two others were rescued, and brought to a veterinarian clinic in Madison, where his human mother, Ann, and my own human mother, Renee, found him.
It was love at first glance, and my mom convinced Ann that she should adopt the little orange kitten. This was late on a Friday afternoon in the middle of March. My mother was visiting Ann for vacation, and this was the afternoon before mom was coming home to us!
The next morning, mom and Ann went to the clinic and picked up Mahler, placed him in his brand new purple carrying case, and drove him home to meet his new kitty brothers, Major and Christofur, and his new sister, Schmutz. They then whisked him off to Louisville, KY to take my mom to the airport. Young Mahler slept much of the way on mom's lap.
Auntie Ann asked if my husband Bigman and I would consider adopting Mahler, since he was without a kitty mom, and we both consented, overjoyed. We had long considered adopting, and this was our perfect opportunity!
Mahler has made his father and me quite proud. He graduated with Highest Honors from Harfurred, and is now in practice as a medical doctor cat!
He also studied math and engineering, and with his lovely winkwink, Tiny Tiger, they have formed their own company, MT Engineering. They are making a great success of themselves!
We are all so proud of Mahler, he's become such a fine young mancat!
And this delightful young lady cat is Mahler's winkwink friend, Tiny Tiger. She lives in Georgia, and her folks are the right kind of people! Bigman and I
couldn't be more pleased about our son's choice for a companion (her human parents are Mac users, as are Bigman and I!)!
One day in Spring 1997, I whipped up a batch of Trail Mix for Mahler and Tiny Tiger to take with them on one of their adventures. At the time, I had no idea that it would become such a hit with all the kitties, and I've been constantly asked if I would sell it! This became the impetus for me forming my new company, Elektra's Fine Foods. In the weeks ahead, I'll be testing out new recipe ideas, and marketing my food products for the kitty population of the internet. In the works are recipes for Elektra's June Bug Salsa, Elektra's Cricket Jam, and other fine foods. An order form will be available soon! Elektra's Trail Mix is currently available for sale in large quantities, so contact me for more information!
If there is a particular item that you think might be popular with those who have discriminating tastes, please mail me and let me know!
And now, by popular demand, the recipe for my original Elektra's Trail Mix. This recipe may be made in large or small quantities, following my guides. For example, if you use 1 cup of toasted and diced cockroaches, use a half cup of the pounce treats.
This is a simple and fun recipe, and good for kittens to make, with the supervision of their parents, of course!
