Hello there! My name
is Michael Tobin. I am originally from Co. Sligo, Ireland and now live
in Co. Galway. The main purpose of this page is share some details of my genealogy research. Stay a while and have a read of it. Take a minute to sign my guestbook - you never know when it might be read by a distant cousin. On each of my family name pages, I will try to maintain a list of researchers of the same name. I will base this on various sources, including signatories of my guest book. In early 2000, I visited the National Library in Dublin. As a novice researcher, I made some notes based on my experience on the day - which might help others if they are planning a similar trip. Have a look at my genealogy and history calendar, for which I have coigned the phase GenealogiCal . I try to keep the pages simple to speed up download
time. I hope this pleases surfers. From an artistic
viewpoint, its not pretty but I hope its pretty practical!
The following surnames are my direct ancestors, listed in
alphabetical order. To see how I descend from them, click
here.
My initial goal is to trace all descendants of my grandparents, then do my g-grandparents, then my gg-grandparents ..... until I have gone back as far as possible on each link. Part of my motivation for doing this research is to find out more about living relatives - in modern society people seem to have lost touch with how they are related to other distant cousins. For my relatives, I hope to rectify this. In time, I hope to compile a short history of each family, setting out the tree and related information about my ancestors. I am a member of the Irish Western Family History Society, which is based in Galway. |
