- Welcome to our Retriever paradise: 200 acres of rolling hills, bush, ponds,
and creeks. It is home to the WIMBERWAY Labrador Retrievers, Border
Terriers, and Border Collies, as well as a herd of CHAROLAIS cattle and a
mixed herd of goats. A large lawn beside the house is used for flyball,
agility, obedience classes, and fun matches, while the fields and ponds are
used for field training, tracking, Working Certificate and Hunt Test
training and trials.
- Near North Bay, Ont., we are easily accessible by major highways from
Ottawa, Toronto, Sault Ste Marie and Timmins.
- The dogs get regular "pack runs" on the home farm and adjoining crown land.
They learn to run, weave, use their noses, track, swim, jump, play and live
together.
- All litters are born in the house, and the pups are home raised. The pups
are started on their house training, vaccinated, wormed, tattooed, and fully
weaned before leaving for their new homes at 7-8 weeks of age.
- WIMBERWAY was registered as a kennel name with the CKC in 1960, and is also
used as a herd name with the goats.
- A brand new building, with in-out kennels, and a large indoor training area
is almost completed. All breeds of dogs are accepted for boarding and
training. The kennels have been designed and built with safety and comfort
in mind. For visiting dogs, there are covered runs and heated winter
accomodation.
- The farm is a working farm, cleared just a hundred years ago. The cattle
graze the fields keeping the cover at a suitable height for training the
retrievers and running trials/tests here. The original beaver ponds have
been enlarged and improved to provide suitable training water for very young
pups and for more advanced work. The rock piles and remains of old stone
fences intrigue the terriers.
