Helpful Hints

Here are some hints that help me in making life a little easier. I have tried most of them & they are good hints. I hope they will help you too.

1. Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.

2. Use a meat baster to "squeeze" your pancake batter onto the hot griddle. You get perfect shaped pancakes each time.

3. Place an apple in with your potatoes to keep them from budding.

4. To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before boiling.

5. Run your hands under cold water OR spray with Pam before pressing Rice Krispies treats into the pan--the marshmallows won't stick to your fingers.

6. To get the most juice from your lemons, bring them to room temperature and roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.

7. To easily remove burnt-on food from your pans, add a drop ot two of dish soap and enough water to cover the bottom of the pan and bring to a boil on the stove. The food comes right off.

8. Spray your tupperware with non-stick cooking spray before pouring in tomato-bases sauces--no more stains.

9. When a cake recipe calls for flouring the pan, use a little bit of the cake mix instead.

10. If you accidentlly over-salt a dish while cooking just drop in a peeled potato to absorb the excess salt.

11. Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refigerator--it will keep for weeks.

12. Brush beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

13. Place a slice of apple into harden brown sugar to soften it back up.

14. When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness.

15. To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh. If it rises to the surface, throw it away.

16. To help cure a headache, take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away. This one I haven't tried yet.

17. Freeze left over wine into ice cube trays for future use in casseroles and sauces.

18. If you have problems opening jars, use latex dishwashing gloves to grip the jars for easier opening.

19. Potatoes will take food stain off your fingers. Just slice and rub the raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.

20. To get rid of itch from a mosquito bite, try applying soap on the area for instant relief.

21. Ants are said never to cross a chalk line so draw a line of chalk wherever ants march and see for yourself.

22. Use air freshener to clean mirrows. It does a good job and leaves a lovely smell to the shine. I haven't tried this one either.

23. When you get a splinter reach for your scotch tape. Simply put the tape over the splinter and pull. It removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

24. To remove a stain from a vase, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer or denture cleaning tablets.
