Bright Burrell Sr. first married Nancy A Brown (b 1 May 1833) on 15 Aug 1850. Nancy was the daughter of Absolum and Mary McClure Brown; Nancy was one quarter Cherokee. Bright and Nancy had one son Bright Burrell, jr. (b ab 1852). After the early death of Nancy, about 1853-1854, Bright then married Martha Billingsley, the daughter of James B and Martha Billingsley. Bright Sr, with his brothers Butler and Samuel P crossed over to Pickens Co SC at the beginning of the War between the States and joined the Third South Carolina Cavalry, Co "F". Butler died at the Battle of Gettysburg on 3 July 1863. Bright buried him near the spot where he fell during a lull in the fighting. Bright and Samuel returned to Rabun Co and farmed. Bright lived at Pine Mountain until his death in 1905.
