Hello, I used to have some information on part of my ancestry. I know that three brothers came over from England in the early to mid 1600's. John and James were used as first names quite a bit in the Foster family. Several members of my family served in he Revolutionary and Civil Wars. One was a doctor in Virginia during the Civil War and one owned a company that mad wool hats for the Confederate Army. Also, another family member was president of The Bank of Alabama in the mid 1800's. There is a town utside of Tuscaloosa, Alabama named Fosters after my family. I have been told that the old Foster plantation house is still standing. I have yet to visit this town to find out more about my family, but I hope to in the near future. I do know that the F ster and Montgomery families were close for a long period of time and often married one another. If you have heard any of this information previously, I would be delighted to read what you know and if we could possibly be related somehow. Hi. I'm in need of some direction. I saw your item about your ancestor's claim to the Southern Claims Commission. One of my ancestors in Walker Co., Georgia made a similar claim. I have all the reference numbers, etc. which appear in the name index to the claims. How in the heck do you find the actual application papers and claims papers which were completed in filing the claim? His claim was disallowed, which I understand is the best outcome from a genealogical point of view. I have access to all 14-or-however- any rolls of the Southern Claims microfilm, but could never find any sort of case numbers or reference numbers in them, and they didn't appear to be arranged by surname or date or location. Can you help me? I've been looking for the birthplace of this ancestor who made the claim for nearly 35 years. This is probably the only time in his life when someone actually sat down with him and asked him where he was born. I'm very anxious to find hose papers. Thanks for your time and attention. I'm just getting started on my family line and my grandfather's mother was a Foster (Bertha Foster). She was married to Walter Pitman and they had two other children, at the time of my grandfather's birth. He was "boarded out" at a very young age and coul n't remember anything about his family, was virtually an orphan. He was born on Aug.3 1908, Independence Co. AK. His parents were living in Oil Trough Ak at the time of his birth. If there is a connection or anyone knows of one, I would greatly appreciat any information. My Foster family members are from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The oldest one, at this time, being Phillip and his wife Maria Smoker. I also have Joel Henry Foster, his wife Margaret and their daughter Rachael Foster (my greatgrandmother who married ames Frew from Paradise township in the 1800s. Phillip was involved in the Leacock Presbyterian Church in Paradise in the 1800s. A believe he was in his sixties at the time of the 1850 census. Hi, enjoyed your page. I belong to a computer club in the San Francisco Bay area; you did a good job on your page. I'm trying to locate my ancestors too. I submitted a name to the DeKalb Co. Genealogy Society today. I'm looking for the father of a Jo n W. Allen. He was born in 1800 in VA. He is in the 1850 & 60 census of DeKalb Co. His wife is Lucy W.(Flowers?) Allen. One of their sons, John M. Allen was a Civil War Vet. He and his brother George W. left TN in 1866 for Texas. A Jessie Allen seems to have owned a lot of land in DeKalb Co. Any relationship possible there?

Am looking for parents of William Alfred FOSTER. Understood there was a "family farm" in Rabun Co, illard, GA, but found no census records in 1880 for them. Other option is the NC one where my grandmother was born and died. Anyway, I used to ride and show Tennessee Walking horses and would have chosen Tennessee as my birth state if I could have! Am curious if you have run across Sterling Foster and Virginia Heard Foster and their families. They were living in Union Springs, Ala. in 1850's. My line is connected some how to this line. W.R. Foster and family were living in Angelina Co., Texas on 1900 census. (This is my line) After a son of Sterling Foster died in 1937, our side of the family was contacted about the estate, but I can't connect how Sterling Foster and W.R. Foster were related. As you can see by the names I listed. one I am not sure yet of spelling(Ritchison/Richardson) and the other I got conficting stories.
