I read it in a book named "Surnames of America". I quoted directly from the book the first time I wrote in about this. Actually this is not so far fetched. There are names in almost every country that mean "dove" or raiser of doves. I believe St. Columba lived in the 6th century, however I do not know when he was sainted. Catholics in many countries have adopted St.'s names as there surnames for various reasons. I have no idea where the french version came from. Maybe we will find out someday..... Carole
