Light is used
to convey a number of things within God's Word. One is purity,
another is Truth and yet another is that Christ is the Light of
the world.
This study is
about the person who is the light of life and that is Christ.
The book of John
chapter 8:12 tells us:Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This
time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you
won't be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives
life.”
God's light is
able to protect us as Psalm 27 verse1 tells us:
You, Lord, are the light
that keeps me safe.
I am not afraid of anyone.
You protect me,
and I have no fears.
God's light is
able to lead us to Him the provider of all things as PSALM 43 tells
us:
1 Show that I
am right, God!
Defend me against everyone
who doesn't know you;
rescue me from each
of those deceitful liars.
2 I run to you
for protection.
Why have you turned me away?
Why must enemies mistreat me
and make me sad?
3 Send your light
and your truth
to guide me.
Let them lead me to your house
on your sacred mountain.
4 Then I will worship
at your altar because you
make me joyful.
You are my God,
and I will praise you.
Yes, I will praise you
as I play my harp.
5 Why am I discouraged?
Why am I restless?
I trust you!
And I will praise you again
because you help me,
and you are my God.
This passage also tells us that god will send us his truth as well
so we will go to John to see that Jesus is not only the light of
the world but truth as well.
John 3:10 Jesus
replied:
How can you be a teacher of Israel and not know these things? 11
I tell you for certain that we know what we are talking about because
we have seen it ourselves. But none of you will accept what we say.
12 If you don't believe when I talk to you about things on earth,
how can you possibly believe if I talk to you about things in heaven?
13 No one has
gone up to heaven except the Son of Man, who came down from there.
14 And the Son of Man must be lifted up, just as that metal snake
was lifted up by Moses in the desert. 15 Then everyone who has
faith in the Son of Man will have eternal life.
16 God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only
Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life
and never really die.
17 God did not
send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to
save them! 18 No one who has faith in God's Son will be condemned.
But everyone who doesn't have faith in him has already been condemned
for not having faith in God's only Son.
19 The light has
come into the world, and people who do evil things are judged guilty
because they love the dark more than the light. 20 People who do
evil hate the light and won't come to the light, because it clearly
shows what they have done.
21 But everyone
who lives by the truth will come to the light, because they want
others to know that God is really the one doing what they do.
God is Light and
if we walk in the light God will save us from our sins and we will
be saved as it tells us in 1 John 1:5
5 Jesus told us
that God is light and doesn't have any darkness in him. Now we are
telling you.
6 If we say that we share in life with God and keep on living in
the dark, we are lying and are not living by the truth.
7 But if we live
in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other. And
the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away. 8 If we say
that we have not sinned, we are fooling ourselves, and the truth
isn't in our hearts.
9 But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to
forgive us and take our sins away.
and when we are
in the city of God there will be no need of light as he provides
the light of the city and as the people are able to see His light
we will no longer need the sun and the moon to give us light as
He is our Light as it tells us in Revelation 21:
21 Each of the
twelve gates was a solid pearl. The streets of the city were made
of pure gold, clear as crystal.
22 I did not see a temple there. The Lord God All-Powerful and the
Lamb were its temple. 23 And the city did not need the sun or the
moon.
The glory of God
was shining on it, and the Lamb was its light.
24 Nations will walk by the light of that city, and kings will bring
their riches there. 25 Its gates are always open during the day,
and night never comes.
26 The glorious
treasures of nations will be brought into the city. 27 But nothing
unworthy will be allowed to enter. No one who is dirty minded or
who tells lies will be there. Only those whose names are written
in the Lamb's book of life will be in the city.
and in Rev 22:
3 God's curse will no longer be on the people of that city. He and
the Lamb will be seated there on their thrones, and its people will
worship God 4 and will see him face to face. God's name will be
written on the foreheads of the people. 5 Never again will night
appear, and no one who lives there will ever need a lamp or the
sun. The Lord God will be their light, and they will rule forever.
