The Descendants of Hans Nichol Danert
The Dainards, Danards, Daynards, Deinhardts, Denards etc
I dedicate this page to the memory of my grandfather
Samuel M Dainard
1862 -1927
This page is here for bits and pieces of information and hopefully it will eventually include some comical or interesting facts about the family that has been passed on down though the years. The family, once in Canada, settled in the Prince Edward County of Ontario around the Milford and Picton area. I do have a copy of the original Province of Upper Canada Grant issued to John Jacob Denet (another spelling) of the Township of Marysburgh, in the County of Prince Edward in the Midland District of Ontario. This appears to read the West half of Lot No 6 South Bay and was issued in 1891 by the Surveyor General I believe that is on the Bay of Quinte and many of the family were fisherman, trappers and hunters in the early days. The Dainard's as a race are remarkable for physical courage and strength, as well as for moral uprightness. Taken from a long ago article, it stated that more than one of Jacob's sons had been known to seize a wine barrel by the chines, weighing two hundred and forty pounds, shoulder and carry it a long distance. Some of them were great fighters, and had the peculiarity of smiling queerly (SUBRIDERE MIRABILITER) as they became enraged. The old pioneer Jacob met his death in 1817 while engaged in carrying a huge log of white poplar to use at Christmas time as a Yule log. He slipped on the stone hearth of his home, fell backwards, the log falling on his chest and crushing him." This family now spreads from Prince Edward County , Ontario to all over the United States and Canada and probably the world. over the world. Much of my information has been passed down though the years and by fellow researchers, family bibles, marriage and death records. More later.
Aunt Phene
wrote poems. Some are included on this page about her. She was my great
aunt. Her full name was Tryphena Catherine Dainard Taylor.

Piligrimage at
DAINARD LAKE
This is where Thomas Creek Trail meets the lake.
near Golden, BC in the Canadian Rockies
Named after a Manuel Dainard who was a trapper and guide in the late
1800's. Mt. Dainard is just NE of the Big Bend of the Columbia River and
Dainard Creek and Dainard Lake are just north of the head of the Kootenay
River. Some of us were there this summer
for the second time and it is truly a magnificent and awesome place.
Seen in the picture below taken September 8, 1997 after a long hike up
the trail from left to right: Neil Danard, Audrey and Maurice Danard, Tara
Shantz, sitting is Isabelle Ketchen and behind her is Marge McArthur. Taking
the picture was Cliff McArthur who somehow always gets to take the pictures.
We are, of course, toasting Dainard Lake and our ancestors with Deinhard
Lila Wine. All of us are first, third or fourth cousins and most of us
had just met.
Please if you know of any information regarding this family email me
