I enjoyed making this recipe card holder. I made something similar as a child out of felt instead of clay and a plastic spoon which of course ended up with broken tongs.
Materials:
Polymer clay - pearl and scrap clay
Citrus canes in orange, lemon and lime, a leaf cane and a small amount of a green marbled clay( I used
some of my faux malachite mix)
1 Del Monte fruit cup washed(watch out for the edge. I squeeze it with a pair of pliers before washing
it
1 metal fork
Pasta machine or rolling pin
Tissue blade or Exacto knife - the tissue blade will be easier to slice the thin pieces of cane with.
Needle tool for cutting clay
Water based glaze - Future floor polish or Flecto varathane diamond finish work great
Plaster of Paris - small amount. I used about 3/4 cup to 1/4 cup of water. The amounts are usually 2:1. Referred to as p.o.p.
A disposable cup and utensil to mix the plaster of paris with.
Whisk to hold the fork while the mixture hardens(20 - 30 minutes)
Take the scrap clay and fill in the open places. The rim can be filled in with a small snake of clay. Also fill in the bottom. I sat the can on the clay and pressed to get the shape. Cut it out with a needle tool and placed on the end making sure not to trap any air bubbles.
Roll out the pearl clay tall enough to fit top to bottom and long enough to fit around on a #1 setting (widest). It will end up being slightly taller and longer when done.
Take your citrus canes and slice off slices as thin as possible to paper thin.
Lay these on the sheet of pearl clay and slightly layer if possible. The thinner the slices, the clearer they will be and you will be able to see through them to the ones under. Roll the sheet through the pasta machine at #1. This will press the slices into the pearl clay sheet.
These are pictures from another tutorial to show the next step.
Flip the sheet over and lay the cup on the sheet and trim the top and bottom. Then start rolling the clay and the cup until the beginning edge touches the other.
Roll back and trim the sheet along the line that will show.. This will allow you to cut a seam that will but together smoothly.
